Jose Enrique picks up Man of the Match after a solid performance

Liverpool have won in impressive fashion against Wigan at Anfield to retain 3rd spot in the Premier League. Liverpool dominated the game and opened the scoring on 31 minutes when Jose Enrique cross the ball in for Dirk Kuyt to finish with his head. Liverpool scored a second in the 35th minute when Enrique once again put a cross in this time for Luis Suarez to tap in. Liverpool finished the game off when Martin Skrtel played a long ball up for Giuseppe Rossi who rounded Tom Heaton and scored.

Liverpool next play Aston Villa at Villa Park
In other results, Manchester City have defeated Arsenal 1-0 to go top of the table and Tottenham have beaten Manchester United 3-0 in a shocking win.

Luis Suarez picks up Man of the Match with two impressive goals

Liverpool have rose to top spot in the Premier League with a fantastic 4-0 win over Aston Villa. Liverpool dominated for the full 90 minutes and Aston Villa never looked like scoring. Liverpool scored their first on 24 minutes when Luis Suarez ran down the wing and crossed the ball in for Giuseppe Rossi to score from a header. Liverpool doubled their lead when Martin Skrtel headed in Stewart Downing's corner. Liverpool went three up just two minutes after when Downing played a great ball over the top for Suarez to run onto and finish in the top corner. Liverpool finished the game off on the 70th minute when Downing crossed the ball in for Suarez to easily tap into the back of the net.

In other news, Chelsea have beaten Manchester City 1-0 to send Liverpool to the top of the ladder and Aston Villa have sacked Alex McLeish with Glenn Roeder the favourite to take over

Dirk Kuyt scores Liverpool's first hat-trick of the season

Liverpool have retained top spot in the Premier League with a terrific 4-1 win over Bolton. Rossi opened the scoring for Liverpool with a nice finish in the bottom corner after Jordan Henderson played a great through ball. Liverpool doubled their league just 3 minutes after when Dirk Kuyt dribbled into the box from out wide, took on a defender and smashed the ball into the top corner. Kuyt got his second when Steinsson fouled Kuyt in the box and he converted the penalty. Liverpool got a second penalty when El Hadj-Diouf fouled Rossi in the box and Kuyt converted the penalty to complete his hat-trick. Bolton got one back in the 70th minute when David N'Gog converted a Martin Petrov cross to score against his former club.

Liverpool have trounced Ipswich 7-0 in their FA Cup third round encounter. Liverpool got their first goal on 3 minutes when Andy Carroll finished the rebound from Dirk Kuyt's initial shot. Liverpool scored their second when Jonjo Shelvey played a great ball through to Carroll who blasted his shot into the top corner. Liverpool's third came in the 9th minute when O'Connor converted Maxi's cross for an own goal. Liverpool scored a fourth in the 13th minute when Maxi converted Daniel Agger's cross. Liverpool didn't score again until the 52nd minute when Andy Carroll scored from the spot. Liverpool scored a sixth on 67 minutes when Shelvey played a ball over the top to Craig Bellamy who blasted his shot into the top corner. Liverpool's last goal came in the 78th minute when Dirk Kuyt converted a penalty.

Liverpool take the advantage in the League Cup Semi Final with a 3-2 first leg win at Anfield. Manchester City can take a positive out of the result with two away goals. Manchester City scored first when Aleksandr Kolarov converted a free kick on the edge of the area. Liverpool equalised just two minutes later when Jordan Henderson headed the ball down to Charlie Adam who scored in the bottom corner on the half volley. Darijo Drna received a red card on 42 minutes after getting a second yellow for persistent fouling. Liverpool dominated from then on but didn't take the lead until the 72nd minute when Jose Enrique played Luis Suarez through on goal. Kolo Toure tackled Suarez but the loose ball rolled into the City goal. Manchester City equalised when Stewart Downing converted a City corner into his own net. Downing redeemed himself in the 82nd minute when Jordan Henderson played a over the top ball through to Downing who directed his shot into the bottom corner to give Liverpool a late winner

Liverpool fail to take chances in poor draw

Liverpool retain top spot but only by goal difference after a poor result against travelling Norwich. Liverpool had 17 shots in total but failed to take any of them. Liverpool are now on 49 points level with Manchester City and Arsenal.

Martin Skrtel scores his fifth goal in the League

Liverpool and Tottenham have shared the points after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Anfield. Liverpool started off perfectly when 10 minutes in Martin Skrtel converted a Stewart Downing corner to score his fifth goal in the League this season. 21 minutes in Tottenham caught Liverpool on the break when Luka Modric played Sandro in on goals who passed the ball out to Landon Donnavon on the wing who crossed the ball back into Sandro who tapped it in. Liverpool once again took the lead on the half hour mark when Stewart Downing won a free kick on the left side of the edge of the box. Downing passed the ball across to Steven Gerrard who struck his shot into the bottom corner. After much end to end football in the second half it was Tottenham who scored, on 57 minutes Luka Modric's corner was cleared out back to him. Modric ran into the box and passed the ball to Vedran Corluka who was standing on the edge of the box. Corluka hit his shot first time into the bottom corner to level things up. Liverpool retain top spot after the draw thanks to City and Arsenal also being unable to win.

Giuseppe Rossi is Man of the Match after assisting both goals

Liverpool have advanced to the final of the League Cup and can now look forward to their first ever visit to the new Wembley. Stewart Harris has done brilliantly to lead Liverpool to the final after defeating Cheltenham, Chelsea, Sunderland, Wolves and now Manchester City along the way. Liverpool got a great start as 10 minutes in Giuseppe Rossi took the ball past two defenders on the left wing and played the ball into Steven Gerrard who was on the edge of the box. Gerrard placed his shot into the bottom corner to give Liverpool a 4-2 lead on aggregate. Liverpool scored their second in the 30th minute when Martin Skrtel converted Giuseppe Rossi's corner. Manchester City had many chances but a solid Liverpool defence and quality goalkeeping from Pepe Reina denied Manchester City a trip to Wembley.

Liverpool next face Coventry at The Ricoh Arena in the FA Cup fourth round.
In other news Leeds also advance to the League Cup Final with a shock 4-1 win at White Hart Lane. Tottenham were 2-0 up on aggregate going into the second leg but Leeds put on a terrific performance to face Liverpool at Wembley.

Liverpool will have to face Coventry again next week at Anfield after a poor draw at the Ricoh Arena. Liverpool dominated the game but couldn't score past an impressive Joe Murphy in goals.

Adel Taarabt score in the 89th minute to earn a draw at Loftus Road

Liverpool have drawn 2-2 with QPR after a thrilling match at Loftus Road. After much domination from Liverpool they finally scored on 30 minutes when Shaun Wright-Phillips took out Stewart Downing in the box. Giuseppe Rossi took the penalty and shot in the bottom corner to beat Paddy Kenny. QPR came out of half time looking motivated and Neil Warnock's half time talk seemed to have effect on them as 50 minutes in Taarabt ran down the left wing taking on Carragher in the process. He then cut the ball back to DJ Campbell who fired his shot into the top corner. After that goal Liverpool gained focus and dominated again. It wasn't until the 74th minute when Liverpool took the lead again when Luis Suarez dribbled into the box and played a ball through to Stewart Downing who blasted his shot into the top corner to give Liverpool what seemed like the winning goal. But on 89 minutes Adel Taarabt received the ball 25 yards out. Taarabt took a touch a fired his shot hard and low into the bottom corner to give QPR a fantastic result while Liverpool will be disappointed. Liverpool remain top of the league, level points with Arsenal and Manchester City

Luis Suarez has ended his current goal drought with a goal against Wolves

Liverpool retain top spot with a 3-1 win over Wolves at the Molineaux. It was Wolves who took the lead and gave Liverpool fans a scare on 9 minutes when Ortigoza crossed in a corner. There was a lot of confusion going on in the box with the ball bouncing around but it eventually fell to Karl Henry who tapped it in to give Wolves a surprise lead. Liverpool equalised on 25 minutes when Luis Suarez played Giuseppe Rossi through on goal. Rossi dribbled into the box and placed his shot into the bottom corner. Liverpool took the lead on the 45th minute when Luis Suarez received the ball on the edge of the box. Suarez hit it first time into the bottom corner to end his goal drought. Liverpool secured the win on 71 minutes when Stewart Downing played Suarez out wide. Suarez crossed the ball in low for Steven Gerrard to smash past a hopeless Wayne Hennessey.

Suarez and Bellamy celebrate after both players score hat-trick

Liverpool have recovered from their disappointing performance last time they played Coventry by this time smashing them 7-0. Coventry only had 5 shots in the entire game and were on the back foot from kick off. Dirk Kuyt scored first for Liverpool on 8 minutes when he scored from the spot after Richard Keogh tripped Craig Bellamy in the box. Liverpool doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Jonjo Shelvey played a great ball through to Bellamy who's shot nutmegged the keeper before going in. Liverpool went 3 up on 34 minutes when Luis Suarez dribbled down the right wing and put a low cross into a running Bellamy who slid in and put it past the keeper. Bellamy completed his hat-trick and got Liverpool's fourth on 46 minutes after scoring a fantastic effort that was meant to be a cross from a wide position. Liverpool didn't score again until the 61st minute when Jordan Henderson played a ball into Suarez who took a touch past his marker and buried his shot into the bottom corner. Liverpool went 6 up when Andy Carroll played a brilliant through ball to Suarez who placed his shot past the keeper. Liverpool completed the rout on 77 minutes when Jose Enrique crossed the ball to Suarez who tapped it past the keeper to secure his hat-trick.

In other news Norwich have sacked Paul Lambert as their manager with the favourite being John Jensen to take over. Also Fulham have sacked Martin Jol as their manager with Alex McLeish favourite to takeover and Manchester City have lost 3-1 to Aston Villa.

Luis Suarez back on form with a double at Anfield

Liverpool have beaten Sunderland 2-0 to retain top spot in the Premier League. Liverpool started off brilliantly with Luis Suarez scoring in 8 minutes after a fantastic ball from Jonjo Shelvey played him through on goal. Liverpool doubled their lead on 31 minutes when Dirk Kuyt passed to Suarez in the box. Suarez turned and shot straight at Craig Gordon. Gordon made a mistake and couldn't hold it and the ball hit the post and went in.
