Rui Costa To Return To Football

RuiCosta.jpg

Benfica legend Rui Costa has today announced his intentions to return to football. The Portuguese midfielder retired in 2008 after his second spell at Benfica. Rui Costa is well known throughout the world, and spent times at Fiorentina and A.C Milan. He also made 94 appearances for the Portuguese national team and scored 26 goals.

On his website, he told his fans, "I have been studying for my coaching licences over the last few years. Now that I have achieved them, I am ready to go into management. I hope I can have a successful management career, just as I did as a player."

There are several clubs thought to be interested in Rui Costa's services, including Santos and FC Twente.

Where do you think Rui Costa will end up in his first job?

Rui Costa Quick To Make Changes

Rui Costa is not hanging around when it comes to making new signings. The Portuguese manager has already brought 3 new players, all of them being strikers. He has got Miccoli and Anelka both on free transfer. The fans are very excited about the signings, and hope they will link up quickly and push the club onto glory. He has also signed South African Lehlohonolo Majoro for £550k from Kaizer Chiefs

Good Start for FC Twente

nufcfans_douglas_fc_twente_newcastle_target.jpg

Dull. Boring. Uninteresting. These are words you will not find in the Rui Costa book of tactics. In just 4 games his side have already scored 12 goals, but maybe more worryingly, have conceded 8. New signings Anelka and Miccoli have also settled in well, and are helping the teams cause.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

AZ 3 - 4 FC Twente
Van Aanholt, Zoua, Elm - Miccoli (x3), Bjelland

Not a bad way to start your first game as manager. An amazing 4-3 win, and new signing Miccoli put on a superb performance. It didnt take long, only 10 minutes, for him to open the scoring. It took even less time to add his second, before getting his third in the second half.

FC Twente 5 - 4 Vitesse
Miccoli, Bjelland, Rosales (x2), Schidler - Bony (x4)
Another high octane, high scoring game in Rui Costa's first home game in charge of FC Twente. Vitesse's Bony showed why he is being targeted by top clubs in the world, and got himself 4 goals this game. Miccoli took his tally up to 4 for the season with another goal. Rosales also send the home fans away in a joyous move, after scoring the winner in the 95th minute of the game

Zwolle 0 - 3 FC Twente
Miccoli (x2), Bjelland

Another good performance from FC Twente gave them 3 wins in 3. Miccoli got 2 more goals to add to his tally, before picking up a serious injury, which is thought will keep him out for around 2 months.

FC Groningen 1 - 0 FC Twente
Canete

The only low scoring game of the month proved to be Rui Costa's first loss as a manager. Canete got the only goal of the game.

Perfect Month For FC Twente

180410%20FC%20Twente%20ANP-12432542.jpg

Rui Costa has continued his excellent start in charge of FC Twente. They have won all 4 of their games this month, and are sitting top of the Eredivisie. They have also made progress in the KNVB Cup having won convincingly against FC Dordrecht. This set them up with a potentially tricky tie against FC Utrecht.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Twente 2 - 0 FC Utrecht
Fer, Anelka

Anelka got his first goal for the club in a two nil win over FC Utrecht. Leroy Fer aslo got his first goal of the season

FC Twente 1 - 0 SC Cambuur
Fer

Leroy Fer doubled his goal tally for the season against SC Cambuur, as FC Twente played out a one nil win.

FC Twente 4 - 0 FC Dordrecht (KNVB Cup)
Majoro (x2), Gutierrez (x2)

New signing Majoro scored his first two goals for the club to help them into the next round of the cup. Gutierrez also got himself on the score sheet twice in an easy four nil win.

Heracles 0 - 1 FC Twente
Castaignos

FC Twente finished the month with another one nil win. Thsi time Castaignos got the only goal of the game

FC Twente Keep On Winning

fans%20twente.jpg

Another 4 games, another 4 wins for Rui Costa and his side, leaving them top of the division by 2 points. They also progressed into the 4th round of the KNVB Cup with a win over FC Utrecht. They will face rivals FC Groningen in the next round. Good news this month too was the return of Miccoli, who made a sub appearance in the final game of the month.

sc Heerenveen 1 - 2 FC Twente
**** - Bulykin, Tadic

FC Twente started off the month with a win against sc Heerenveen. Bulykin and Tadic put FC Twente in a comfortable position, before **** goal in the 88th minute set up a nervous finish, but FC Twente were able to hold on.

FC Twente 3 - 2 NEC
Brama, Bulykin, Majoro - da Silva, George

Another victory by the skin of their teeth for FC Twente. Having gone two nil up through goals from Brama and Bulykin, goalkeeper Mihaylov had two shocking moments which allowed NEC to score. Majoro came off the bench, and then 10 minutes later, in the 90th minute, scored the winner.

FC Twente 3 - 1 VVV
Castaignos, Fer (x2) - Quekel

Leroy Fer was in excellent form this get, getting himself two goals. He was unlucky not to get a third, having hit the post and forcing VVV keeper Maenpaa into a superb save.

FC Utrecht 2 - 4 FC Twente (KNVB Cup)
Badjeck, Mulenga - Heerings (o.g), Tadic, Majoro, Bjelland

The goals keep on coming for FC Twente. This time a 4-2 victory over FC Utrecht in the KNVB Cup. The fans were also delighted to see the return of Miccoli, who played the last 20 minutes from off the bench.

FC Twente Still Marching On

leroy+fer.jpg

Its been another good month for FC Twente, although not quite as good as last month. They played out 2 win and 2 draws this month, leaving them in 2nd place with a game in hand. They also surprisingly had a nil nil draw, the first time they have failed to score in 8 games. They now have a tough December coming up, and have a total of 6 games to play in quick succession.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Twente 0 - 0 RKC

An extremely disappointing result at home for FC Twente. Neither team played well, and a draw was the fairest result

ADO Den Haag 0 - 2 FC Twente
Bjelland, Majoro

FC Twente's goalscoring drought didnt last long, with with Bjelland scoring a header from a corner. Majoro came off the bench again to score. He has now taken his tally to 5 goals this season

FC Twente 4 - 3 PSV
Miccoli, Gutierrez, Douglas, Fer - Wijnaldum (x2), Strootman

Another exciting games for both sets of fans. Wijnaldum put PSV into an early lead, before Miccoli equalized on the stroke of half time. Guitierrez and Douglas put FC Twente in a commanding 3-1 lead, before Wijnaldum got his second in the 86th minute, then Strootman equalized 3 minutes later. The game looked to be heading for a draw, before Fer got another late goal to give FC Twente the win.

FC Twente 1 - 1 Feyenoord
Miccoli - Pekalski

Two goals just before half time proved to be the only goal of this game. Pekalski gave Feyenord the lead on 44 minutes, and Miccoli took his total for the season to 8 just 1 minute later. Neither team was able to find a winner in the second half.

FC Twente's Unbeaten Run Brought To An End

_44921074_eljero_getty.jpg

FC Twente's 17 game unbeaten run has finally be ended against Eredivisie leader Ajax. The loss couldnt have come at a worse time, and it means Ajax are now 3 points clear at the top of the league. They did progress into the next round of the KNVB Cup quarter final though, and are holding high hopes of winning the competition.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

NAC Breda 0 - 4 FC Twente

Brama, Tadic, Anelka, Miccoli

An excellent start to the month for FC Twente. An extremely good performance from Rui Costa's men left them top of the table.

FC Twente 2 - 1 AZ
Douglas, Tadic - Johannsson

Another tight game in which FC Twente got a late winner. AZ went one nil up after Johannsson long range screamer. Douglas leveled the scoring from a free kick, before Tadic scored the winning in the 86th minute.

FC Twente 1 - 1 Roda JC
Miccoli - Pereira

Another disappointing game for Rui Costa after a draw with weaker side Roda JC. Miccoli gave FC Twente the lead, but they were unable to hold onto it.

Vitesse 1 - 2 FC Twente
Heijden - Anelka, Miccoli

Anelka and Miccoli both got themselves on the scoresheet after a good performance against Vitesse. Bony was injured this game for Vitesse, so he was unable to repeat his four goals in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

FC Groningen 2 - 3 FC Twente (KNVB Cup)
Zeefuik, Schet - Anelka, Fer, Janssen

FC Twente progressed to the next round of the cup after a match in testing condition. The game was almost called off due to heavy hail. The game went ahead though, and FC Twente won three two.

Ajax 3 - 2 FC Twente
Serero, Sigporsson (x2) - Anelka, Miccoli

Ajax has a very strong first half, and went into a commanding three nil lead. FC Twente has a shocking time in the first half, and Rui Costa must have gave his team a roasting in the dressing room. They came out in the second half, and gave a much better performance, but were unable to get all three goals required.

FC Twente Starting To Struggle

Leroy-Fer-Twente_2892222.jpg

Its been a tough month for FC Twente, despite winning 3 of their 4 games. They really struggled in front of goal, and were lucky to come away with the wins they did. They did progress to the semi finals of the KNVB Cup though, and set up a clash for a place in the final against RKC.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Utrecht 1 - 2 FC Twente

Toornstra, Mulenga - Tadic

Back to back defeats for FC Twente have left the adrift of Ajax at the top of the table. FC Utrecht dominated the game, and deserved their victory.

FC Twente 1 - 0 Zwolle
Neto Berola

FC Twente made a meal of their victory over 16th placed Zwolle. A game they should have won comfortably almost ended in embarrassment, but new signing Neto Berola scored a goal on his debut to give his new team the win

FC Twente 2 - 1 FC Groningen
Miccoli, Bjelland - Texeira

Another game where FC Twente struggled for dominance. Goals from Miccoli and Bjelland gave them a win.

FC Twente 1 - 0 sc Heerenveen (KNVB Cup)
Henriquez

Loan signing Henriquez got his first goal for the club to send FC Twente into the semi finals of the KNVB Cup. They are now just 1 game away from the final, and the excitement around the club is rising.

Transfer Round up

The January window is now closed, and there were a few big transfers to report. The biggest signing of the month was Douglas Costa, who joined Liverpool from Shakhtar for £13 Million. Liverpool also signed defender Adriano from Juventus for £9.5 Million. Also good new for FC Twente fans, Douglas signed an extension on his contract to take him to 2016

Good start mate hopefully you knock Ajax off the top spot! Was thinking of doing a player story possibly with zidane. Well done for keeping Douglas as well!

Thanks buddy. Im hoping so too. Anyone else got any thoughts on my signings so far? Anyone ever managed Neto Berola? Or even heard of him? lol

Great start pal, I've heard of Neto Berola. Used him on FIFA too, guys an absolute pace demon on that!! Improve his finishing and he might be pretty good!!

excellent results mate, good luck! Rui was a phenomenal player

Yeah, that was where I first discovered him too. He is a monster in my Silver Brazilian team on UT!

FC Twente Fall Even Further Behind In Title Race

1524553_w2.jpg

Another poor month for FC Twente have left them even further adrift of Ajax. 2 wins and 2 draws have left them 9 points behind the leaders. With 8 games left of the season, perhaps their best chance of silverware is now in the KNVB Cup.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

SC Cambuur 0 - 0 FC Twente

Another poor match for FC Twente in which they were unable to find the net. A really frustrating match for Rui Costa to watch.

FC Twente 2 - 0 Heracles
Miccoli (x2)

Miccoli got himself back on the scoresheet twice in a good win against rivals Heracles.

FC Twente 0 - 0 sc Heerenveen

Another very disappointing nil nil draw. Thats two this month, which is unacceptable when chasing the title.

NEC 1 - 2 FC Twente
Faulkenburg - Bulykin, Braafield

NEC put up a tough fight against FC Twente, but they were able to get a win. Bulykin and Braafield got the goals of the game for FC Twente to ensure they kept up some sort of pressure on Ajax

Ajax Crowned Champions

Ajax_Champion.jpg

Ajax were today crowned champions of the Eredivise. They have played fantastically all season, and have wrapped up the title with 4 games left to spare. They are currently 17 points ahead of 2nd placed FC Twente! FC Twente are also on a poor streak, having not won in their last 3 games.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

VVV 0 - 1 FC Twente
Majoro

A pretty dull encounter between the two sides ended up with FC Twente snatching the win. Majoro got his 6th goal of the season

FC Twente 0 - 1 Ajax
Fer (o.g)

An own goal from Leroy Fer proved to be the winner for Ajax in a very nervy affair. The victory for Ajax all but confirmed they would retain the title.

RKC 1 - 1 FC Twente
Braber - Wisgerhof

FC Twente continued their poor run with a one all draw against lowly RKC. Manager Rui Costa must be worrying where things are going wrong, after the fantastic goal scoring start to the season.

PSV 2 - 1 FC Twente
Lacodia, Hijemark - Douglas

FC Twente now face the serious possibility of falling into 3rd after their worst month after manager Rui Costa. PSV were dominant all game, and FC Twente's goal came against the run of play from a corner.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Youth Intake

FC Twente have today announced the intake of new youth players. There are only two real players who stand out from this intake, both who have 4 star potential at the club. Rui Costa will be hoping they will be able to fulfill their potential to become useful players for the club in the future.

FC Twente Crowned KNVB Cup winners

RB%20Amstel%20badjassen.jpg

Rui Costa has won his first trophy as manager with a victory over NEC is the KNVB Cup final. It is now the second time in three years FC Twente have won the trophy. They also pulled together for the last of games of the season and managed to keep hold of second position in the league.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

FC Twente 1 - 4 ADO Den Haag
Schilder - Meijers, van Duinen, Jansen, Malone

This will go down as the worst performance ever for FC Twente under Rui Costa. No player averaged above 6.2, with Tadic having a shocking game, getting a rating of just 4.7! FC Twente fell into third position after this loss

Feyenoord 0 - 4 FC Twente
Tadic, Henriquez (x3)

FC Twente today remembered how to score! Rui Costa's damming words and fine towards Tadic had a positive effect, with him getting the first goal of the game in just 2 minutes. Manchester United loanee Henriquez stole the show though with a superb hattrick

Roda JC 0 - 1 FC Twente
Gutierrez

It seems FC Twente used up all their goals in the previous game against Feyenoord. Gutierrez got himself a goal to give his team the win

FC Twente 2 - 1 NEC (KNVB Cup Final)
Henriquez, Miccoli - Conboy

Rui Costa picked up his first piece of silverware as a manager in a thoroughly exciting victory in the KNVB Cup final. Henriquez put FC Twente in the lead, before Conboy got NEC back in the game on the stroke of half time. Miccoli got the winner of the game, with a phenomenal freekick from 35 yards.

FC Twente 6 - 2 NAC Breda
Tadic (x2), Rosales, Douglas (x2) Miccoli - Schalk (x2)

A shocking first half performance from FC Twente gave NAC Breda a shock two nil lead at the break. Rui Costa gave his team a real hairdryer treatment at half time, and his side responded with 6 goals in the second half. A nice way for them to sign off the season.
