54 years, 261 days and 19 hours was on the clock, hanging in the Volksparkstadion. It’s the amount of years, days and hours German club Hamburger SV consecutively played in the Bundesliga. Since the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963 Die Rothosen were part of it. Until that day. The blackest day in the history of Hamburger SV.

Hamburger SV History

Officially HSV, short for Hamburger Sport-Verein, were found in 1919 after the merging of German clubs Germania von 1887, Hamburger FC 1888 and FC Falke 06. But the club itself names 1887, the year Germania was founded. The clubs decided to merge, because after World War I they were severely weakened and they wouldn’t survive on their own.

View attachment 28764

The newly formed team from Hamburg quickly became competitive. They won the national title in 1923, got a second place the year after and 1928 they won it again. Three years before the Bundesliga was born, they won the national title for the third time. In 1963 they joined the Bundesliga as a founding member. They finished 6th that year. The best years for Hamburger HSV were the late 70’s and early 80’s. Domestically they won the Bundesliga three times and the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, twice. And they almost had back-to-back years of winning a big European Price. They came second in the UEFA Cup, what is now known as the Europa League, but the year after they won the cup with the big ears; The Champions League. As of today, that is still the only time they won it.The blackest day in their history is May 12, 2018. For the first time in their history, they got relegated to the 2.Bundesliga. The clock needed to be changed as well, due to the fact that they weren’t part of the Bundesliga anymore. Now the clock mentions the years, months and days that they are a ‘tradition club.’ Counting from the year of founding; 1887.

Expectations & Budgets

The board expects nothing less than to win the 2.Bundesliga and get straight back into the Bundesliga. They know HSV belong there and they want to get back as fast as possible. They don’t allow you to select another option. So you know what to do.

Finances

Hamburger SV is, even though they got relegated from the Bundesliga, a healthy club. With a balance of 40M you don’t have to worry about the financial side of the club. So you can fully get your focus on playing football and getting back to the highest tier, where the club belongs.
The club is healthy and the board wants to keep things like that. So they aren’t giving you any money to spend on transfers. That means the transfer budget is literally 0. What about the wage budget? Not much luck there either. There’s a spare 12K per week, but the board doesn’t allow you to slide it over to the transfer budget. You will have to sell before you can spend.
The other option is the scouting budget. The board is giving you more than half a million, 574K to be exact, to spend on your scouting packages. The world package will cost you 267K, so you can slide the rest of the budget over to your transfer budget. If you choose to do that, you will have 300K to spend on transfers.

Squad Overview

Since there isn’t any money for transfers, you will have to make do with probably 99% of the given squad. And that’s fine, since the squad is good enough to win the 2.Bundesliga. With Pollersbeck you have a keeper that’s more than qualified to be your goalie for the season, so no worries there. The backs won’t be a problem as well. Right back Sakai and left back Douglas Santos are of Bundesliga level and will rip the opponents apart. And with Vagnoman you have one of the biggest, if not the biggest, talent at right back of Germany. Defensively your only problems are with Papadopoulos and Jung. They are your best centre-backs, but both players have an injury of at least 6 months. That means that, unless you buy another one, you’ll need to play Bates, Lacroix or Van Drongelen, the back-ups.Midfield is looking very good. You have experience in Hunt and Mortiz and good talent with Janjicic, Mangala (on loan) and Steinmann. And if that’s not enough, you have Lewis Holtby, former Tottenham Hotspur player and probably the best player in the squad.

The wingers could do some improving, if you’re going use wingers, that is. Jairo is one of your best players and with Ito you have a very decent talent, but that is basically it. Jatta and Ferati aren’t good enough to be in the squad.
Hwang Hee-Chan on loan, big talent Fiete Arp and powerhouse Lasogga. Those are your strikers and they don’t need to improving.

There are 4 players here who the team will be built around.

First up is Fiete Arp

Next is Lewis Holtby

View attachment 28759

Douglas Santos

Finally we have Josha Vagnoman

Keeping hold of some of these players and keeping them happy will be key to your success at HSV I think. I will be following and wish you luck!

Transfers and Preseason
Lets start with the transfers as its always the most impart part at the start of the season. With £0 to spend we had to look to bring some cash in so I first looked at who could be sold as they weren't going to be featuring in the first team on a regular basis so they could be used to bring in money and free up wages.

First out the door was Matti Steinmann to Reading for £1.7 million. We have an abundance of people to play in the centre of the pitch and he just wasn't going to get game time.

Next out the door was Pierre-Michel Lasogga who is sold to Hannover 96 for £2.9 million. It was a logical choice as his contract was up at the end of the season and he was on £59,000 a week so it was important to sell him now before he left on a free.

Finally Arianit Ferati goes to Borussia M'gladbach for £3.5 million. He was a young player that was going to feature as a backup at best so to get that amount for him was great.

Now onto the players coming in. With our 2 best Central Defenders out injured it was important to bring in an experienced player to steady the defence until they return. so We welcome Douglas to the club on a free transfer.

View attachment 28669
Next we bring in Antonio Marin from Dinamo for £3.8 million plus add-ons. He will be played on a rotation basis until he makes the AML position his own

View attachment 28668
Next is a man who will go straight into the first team and keep goal for us over for the foreseeable future. We sign Predrag Rajkovic from Maccabi Tel-Aviv for £4 million.

View attachment 28667
Finally we sign Johannes Geis from Schalke 04 for £2 million and they are even picking up £20,000 of his wages since he was on the transfer list for £1.5 million. He is an exciting young German CM who will come straight into the first team.

View attachment 28666
We have also brought in Alexander Sorloth and Moise Kean n loan to help fill a couple of rotational options for up front and the left wing.

View attachment 28665
Pre-Season

We had a really good pre-season with even getting a win over the German Champions Bayern comfortably but its a shame we lost the match right after it to a team we should of beaten. All in though it gives us confidence into the season.

Tactic/Starting XI

View attachment 28663
With this team we would be aiming for the top half of the Bundesliga never mind just promotion to it so the league should be a canter.

My only expectation this season is to win the league and get promoted, anything else in the cups would just be an added bonus.

One final part of good news from pre-season is we have tied Lewis Holtby down to a new long term contract since his contract was also going to expire at the end of the season

Will follow this, had a fun short save with them but couldn't get rid of Lassogga and he was awful while be a massive part of the wage bill so good work getting rid of him

Cheers mate, I just kept offering him out until I got any sort of offer, I did sell him for less than he was worth but just wanted rid of him to free up the wages

HSV v Holstein Kieln

View attachment 28659A much tougher game than expected for my first league match of the season but young RB Vagnoman scores an outstanding goal to get out campaign off and running with 3 points

SV Sandhausen v HSV

View attachment 28658This was the start I was expecting, Arp gets his first hat-trick of the season to get him off the mark. At only 18 he is going to be a force to be reckoned with. We seemed to settle down against 10 men but what a win.

German Cup 1st Round
Chemie Leipzig v HSV

View attachment 28657

A lot of rotation here to give other layers a run out in the cup, Hwang Hee-Chan and Marin both have dream debuts with getting 5 of the 6 goals between them. It was always going to an easy match but it see's us progress to the 2nd round.

HSV v Arminia Bielefeld

View attachment 28656
A really even first half so we bring on Arp at half time and what a decision that turned out to be with him coming on to win the game for us and then get sent off for a really soft red card.

Month Overview

A brilliant start to the season in the league where we've managed to keep 3 clean sheets in the league and score 7 goals in the 3 games. For the first time ever we have also managed to win an appeal for Arp's sending off so he will be available for the next game now.

In the league cup we have progressed to the second round and will be travelling to play FC Nurnberg in October.

Our first goals conceded in the league and we were made to work for this win, Arp getting a goal very late on in stoppage time in the first half was great but Lewis Holtby was the stand out performer here.

HSV v Jahn Regensburg

View attachment 28624
Two goals conceded again here but a good all round performance here with all 4 goals coming from midfield. The defence needs to get their act together.

SpVgg Greuther Furth v HSV

View attachment 28623
Arp scores an absolute screamer from 25 yards out with the last kick of the ball. We deserved the win as we dominated the match and hit the woodwork 7 times before Arp found the back of the net.

Dynamo Dresden v HSV

View attachment 28622
We seem to be finding it a bit tougher on the road this month but Drongelen gets us the 3 points from a corner in the first half.

Month Overview

Its been a tough month at home we can score plenty of goals but our defence has been a bit shaky and we have conceded a few goals but away from home we struggle going forward but have a solid defence. May change tactics a little next month.

Darmstadt 98 v HSV

View attachment 28599
Our away form struggles continue but Hwang Hee-Chan comes up with the goods in the 19th minute to take the spoils.

HSV v VfL Bochum

View attachment 28598
Our defenders come to our rescue here with limiting Bochum to zero shots but they also come up with the 2 goals. Vagnoman is an absolute gem and is only 17.

FC Magdeburg v HSV

View attachment 28597
Geis gets the all important second goal here to open his account for the club. It was a nervy final 20 minutes as we should have probably conceded an equaliser as we were on the back foot after their goal.

HSV v FC St. Pauli

View attachment 28596
Geis opens the scoring again here with a great solo effort from midfield followed by a goal from Jairo. Arp comes up with the all important third goal to get an outstanding victory over our fierce rivals.

German Cup 2nd Round
1. FC Nurnberg v HSV

View attachment 28595
We make the most of playing 10 men here and worked it to our advantage. Our players manage to remember the match is 90 minutes long and again Vagnoman comes up with the goods and fires us to the third round.

Month Overview

We continue with our 100% win rate in the league but we just aren't scoring enough goals and conceding too many goals for my liking at this level.

I think we need to look at getting in another good CB.

In the league cup we gave a very good performance against a strong team but manage to make it to the third round.

We have also free'd up some cash buy selling a sell on clause for Halilovic going to A.C Milan for £2.5 million.

HSV v FC Koln
View attachment 28509Arp with the opening goal but Koln pull one back. This was always going to be a tough match against a fellow team relegated last season but their own 18 year old pulls a goal back so we spilt the spoils.

HSV v Union Berlin

View attachment 28508
Arp with the 2 goals again. He's on a fine run of form just now.

Month Overview
We have a very short month here because of the international window so the players get a well earned rest over this month.

Arp is now up to 11 goals in 13 games and leading the scoring charts so far for the league.

During this month we also accepted a £15 million bid from Koln for Sakai but he turned it down. It would of been great for the club for boosting the finances and now I can't get anywhere near that value for him.

We make the most of playing against ten men and its the same as the first game of the month with a goal from defence and 2 from the wings. Vagnoman loves getting on the score sheet from right back

Holstein Kiel v HSV
View attachment 28479
Arp starting the scoring nice and early with Geis completing the scoring with the final kick of the ball.

Month Overview

We have a great month with winning all of our games. its encouraging though that we manage to score 11 goals over the 3 games and concede 2.

I have been rewarded with a new contract as well.

We have also agreed the sale of 3 players this month: Tom Mickel leaves for Heracles Almelo on a free transfer, David Bates agrees to join Hibernian for £775,000 finally Gotoku Sakai agrees to join West Ham for £10.5 million.

We will be using this money to strengthen the team. We have started this with bringing in Samir Nasri to support Hunt in the AMC role

Trincao is first in the door from Braga for £1.2 million. He will compete with Marin for the Left winger role and they will hopefully both push each other.

Johannes Eggestein
View attachment 28380
Eggestein is another exciting young German striker to play along with Arp. His contract was expiring at the end of the season at Wender Bremen so we were able to get him to agree to a pre-contract and then using the buy now function get him for £525,000

Felix Uduokhai
View attachment 28378
Uduokhai is another exciting German prospect who was transfer listed by Wolfsburg for £4.8 million so we snapped him up as he will go straight into the first team and should be there to stay for the next 10 years.

Victor Garcia
View attachment 28377
Garcia comes in from Vitoria in Portugal for £1.3 million. He will be a good back up for Vagnoman going forward.

We have also concluded a number of loan deals. Gabriel Barbosa joins from Inter for the rest of the season. Renato Sanches joins from Bayern for a season and a half, Luca Pellegrini joins from Roma. Finally Kyle Walker-Peters joins from Spurs. All loan deals concluded have their parent clubs contributing 100% of their wages.

Players Out

Gotoku Saki is the main player who leaves as he joins West Ham for £10.5 million. Tatsuya Ito joins Hachioji Tigre for £1.3 million. Christoph Moritz joins Wolfsburg for £3.5 million. Khaled Narey joins Huddersfield for £3 Million. Aaron Hunt also joins Huddersfield for £2.5 million. Finally Douglas joins Chievo for £2.2 million

View attachment 28366
We turn a very nice profit and it leaves us with £10 million left to spend before the end of the season if anybody worth while pops up on the transfer list.

FC Heidenheim 1846 v HSV

The strongest XI go out again and run out well deserved winners. The new January signings are already starting to pay off with great goals

SpVgg Greuther Furth V HSV

View attachment 28251
What a game with plenty of goals. The 77th minute had a goal scored by both team with Furth scoring straight from kick off after Arp's goal but Sanches pulled it back 2 minutes later to restore the 3 goal advantage before Geis finished the scoring.

Month Overview

A very positive month even if there were 2 draws we'd rather forget about but again there have been plenty of goals in the other game so its nothing to worry about. The win against Furth has confirmed a play off spot at the worst but the league is already over for everybody else anyway. Our defence has been rock solid this season which is how we still haven't lost a match as we have only conceded 9 goals in 24 matches.

In the cup we have progressed to the quarter final and have had a tough draw away to Freiburg.

A fair result here but Sanches scored a great goal to get the first goal.

Month Overview

A nice short month thanks to the international break again. Sadly we drop out of the cup but we have exceeded our expectations as the board only wanted us to reach the third round.

We have also been guaranteed promotion this month so have been given our budgets so for transfers we have only been given £8 million due to the club finances at the moment. We have been given 800k in wages which at the moment is an extra 200k from what we're spending just now.

Luckily before the budget was agreed we had managed to confirm the signing of Sandro Tanoli from Brescia for £14 million as he was on the transfer list.

We had the youth intake at the start of the month as well and we have every reason to be excited about one prospect. Please welcome Watau Yamamoto the next big star of the Japanese national team so hopefully he will pull in a nice amount of merchandise sales over the seasons.

A fully rotated squad goes out here as it comes only 2 days after the Berlin game. I thought we were destined to lose this one after conceding after 6 minutes but Eggestein gets us 2 goals in 12 minutes to let me thing we're going to get the win before conceding in the first minute of injury time.

Month Overview

We got our first loss of the season which was a bit disappointing but it was always going to happen at some point but I'm just glad it came against one of the stronger teams in the league even if they are only mid table this season. Only good thing is I may be able to raid them for a couple of up and coming players.

We have also been confirmed as champions which is what I had set myself at the start of the season.

What a special way to finish the season in-front of our home fans to show them what they are in for next season. 3 goals from defenders just shows what this team can do.

Since it was a short month I'll just leave the overview out and my next post will be the season over view

Season Overview

It was a season to remember for HSV as we gain promotion at the first time of asking to meet the board expectations. With only losing one game all season we set a new 2.bundesliga record for the least games lost in a season.

All our new signings played well especially Marin and Geis who are now both key players in the team and will be staying there next season.

View attachment 28178
Geis not only gets signing of the season but also grabs goal of the season for his goal against SpVgg Greuther Furth at the end of February. He also narrowly misses out on player of the season to Douglas Santos who had an amazing season at left back.

Josha Vagnoman had a great season and only being 18 again also being in the top 3 Fans player's of the season.

I feel that next season we shouldn't need to bring in too many players to be able to achieve my goals of getting mid table and getting our finances under control to be able to start building a team worthy of toppling the top of German Football.

Our defence and keeper have been the major part of our team as they have only conceded 16 goals in the league while at the other end we have managed to score 74.

Fiete Arp gets the German U19 Players of the year award for his 15 goals this season in 28 games.

View attachment 28176
On the comercial side of things we have managed to pay off one of the loans so will now only be paying out £775,000 a month to clear the rest of the debt.

We have secured some new sponsors as well which will help things going forward as well.
