have you ever tried rioting whilst wet? its especially difficult if you're wearing wool

I guess you're right. I definitely would NOT be ****** off at all ;)

Why? The water hits you really hard, as it comes with a lot of pressure, and it hurts like ****.

They were really far away and the water force looked puny all the way up where they shot it.

This is what happens when clubs sell their stars constantly, and spend big to replace them with average players. River Plate, Monaco, Sampdoria, Leeds, Newcastle, Notts Forest, Real Betis, the list goes on.

In this particular case corruption was the main factor. tens, if not hundreds, of millions vanished into thin air...

They try to make the fans stop rioting by spraying water on them? Idiots oO)

Well, actually it's one of the easiest ways to disperse a croud. High pressure water, rubber bullets, cold weather. Nasty mix!

Yeah, but River sold god-knows how many stars to Europe, paid excessive amounts of cash on poor replacements too.

Thats unusual, especially the way things are weighed in favour of the established clubs over there.

So I'll be expecting Man City to snap up Funes Mori and Lamela by tomorrow.

Indeed, but that's the problem. If they had sold good players and the money was reinvested in the club they wouldn't be where they are now. They're over 100m dollars in debt, their better players are loanees or youth players.

Former president Aguilar's right-hand man, Mario Israel, was good friends with Pini Zahavi, and a lot of players were sold for chips through him, with most of the money ending up in Aguilar's or Israel's pockets (They even sold a batch of 5-6 players for 500k dollars, and even if they were no stars, at least one of them, Eial Strahman, ended up being sold for 1.5m Euros a couple years later). This despicable character, Israel was the owner of 2 bankrupt companies and didn't have a job before joining River - he left a millionaire.

Most of the players bought, on the other hand, were hyped up by the media and a lot of the cash went to agents which were well acquainted with Aguilar and co. It was a vicious circle, and unfortunately it ended in relegation. At least the circle is broken, hopefully they live through this, since 2nd tier tv revenue is 1000% (Yes, one thousand percent) lower than first tier tv revenue (due to the second tier tv rights being owned by a private company) and it's going to be hard to repay those debts without that cash.

You DON'T want Funes Mori anywhere near a half decent club. One of the most hyped up players ever, his stats in FM are horribly wrong. The kid has a lot to improve if he is to be anywhere near those expectations...

Those fans need to man the **** up.

I agree, has potential, but I don't see him fulfilling it.

just saw this and although im shocked the relegation system in Argentina is pretty ****** up.

If it wasn't ****** up they would have gone down a few seasons ago.

Passarella himself said it, 150m pesos a year and a half ago, when he took charge. It's been a year and a half since then with a 'decent' monthly deficit and 8 months unpaid wages to players, plus unpaid transfer fees to San Martin de Porres (Josepmir Ballón) and Metallist Kharkiv (Jonathan Maidana). Fees were undisclosed so I can't give an exact number.

And about the TV revenues, TyC Sports pay 3.5m/club while the government pays 35m/club.

Can't give you a source because you hear this things on the radio or TV when the're interviewed but you can probably do a quick google search for "Deuda River Plate", I'll translate any of your findings :P

We all have!

Adidas are *cking kicking themselves they signed a 5 year kit and sponsorship deal worth 4 million pounds a year with River Plate like 18 months ago with no get out clause which means it sucks to be them tonight.
Other sponsors scratching their heads include a Brazilian kitchenmaker company who had a 1 million a year deal with River in which they got hoardings and River players appeared in adverts for their Kitchens in Argentina (Imagine Rooney and co modelling for Ikea...lol).

Sad times but the clubs had a serious mismanagement problem and I can't blame some of the fans for their anger I mean they are a financially stable club who have made huge sums in the past decade selling D'Allessandro, Saviola, Falcao to name just a few. Their main problem was lack of squad quality and they became dependent on an 18+19 year old to carry them through and it was too much pressure for Funes and Lamela.

Obviously the 2 players in question will end up leaving (I can say for certain it will not be for another Argentine side) destination Europe, again probably a year earlier than people predicted, with sustained interest in Lamela from Napoli, Arsenal, City and reportedly Liverpool which I find pretty mad considering they have no base in SA (City have hired a South American scout to head up a new section of their scouting department for SA and Brazil/Argentina/Chile in particular).

Prices were banded around pre River Plate collapse at 10 million each but I think River would probably take 10 million for the pair at the minute, this transfer window/summer/end of season/pre season is the maddest and most unpredictable ever in my opinion I mean Marseille, Sampdoria, Blackpool (lol), Terek Drobzny (The Chechnyan team Hullit sent packing from the RPL)
Football is going mad! (Arguably already is)

Like most clubs, River has politicians in its upper echelons. Politicians need votes and votes can be swung by leaders of large hooligan gangs. So these guys end up owning fast food stalls at grounds or running merchandising outlets or touting tickets. Gustavo Grabia, the writer and expert on football hooliganism in Argentina, said recently that the top half-dozen figures at the head of these gangs stand to make about $80,000 a year in a country where 40 per cent of the population live on an annual income of $2,500.

It is also said that, when Gonzalo Higuain went from River to Real Madrid, the club gave the gangs $50,000 from the sale, just to keep them sweet. But kickbacks are not calming the mood much these days.

Rivers President needs to resign within the next 48 hours by the way or there will be a full scale riot, he is the one the fans have basically demonised (rightly so, where has all the money gone?Oh thats right Aguilar stole it, I'll let Pessarella off with that one).

Stayed up to watch that stream as well, glad the AFA haven't tried to 'bend' the rules for River either because that would be a FIFA style farce!

P.S Don't mention the Falklands it'll just make them angrier ;)

I can confirm they are in debt (somehow)

Here are some of the figures about the current front of their finances and what they will lose in TV etc next season:

River are grappling with a debt of 280 million Argentine pesos ($68.33 million=Around 45 million Pounds) according to the local Argentinian website MuyRiver - Magazine de River Plate and stand to lose 26.5 million pesos in television revenue when they play in the Nacional B division next season.
I would need a calculator but the the loss in tv revenue is probably around 5 million pounds but the insane sponsorship deals (long term deals that are already signed and in place regardless of division) should keep them afloat.

So overall not a complete disaster BUT they would have to get back up next season and with their current starting 11/squad in my opinion thats all but impossible.

Funes Mori and Lamela I am 70 pct sure will end up in Europe and my 'spidey senses' are telling me Lamela will end up at Napoli and Funes Mori at either Palermo, Athletico Madrid or Santos/Sao Paulo in Brazil (Brazilian options-Probably a loan deal for 12 months) Or Benfica could come back in with a 2-3 million offer and get their man.

You're way, way off target here. Passarella has only been there for 18 months whereas the club's debt comes from the Aguilar era. He didn't steal anything because there was nothing left to steal in the first place.

//Edit - Funes Mori was horrible and has been horrible for over a year, doubt any respectable team will take him now without some significant improvement.
