Adidas are *cking kicking themselves they signed a 5 year kit and sponsorship deal worth 4 million pounds a year with River Plate like 18 months ago with no get out clause which means it sucks to be them tonight.
Other sponsors scratching their heads include a Brazilian kitchenmaker company who had a 1 million a year deal with River in which they got hoardings and River players appeared in adverts for their Kitchens in Argentina (Imagine Rooney and co modelling for Ikea...lol).
Sad times but the clubs had a serious mismanagement problem and I can't blame some of the fans for their anger I mean they are a financially stable club who have made huge sums in the past decade selling D'Allessandro, Saviola, Falcao to name just a few. Their main problem was lack of squad quality and they became dependent on an 18+19 year old to carry them through and it was too much pressure for Funes and Lamela.
Obviously the 2 players in question will end up leaving (I can say for certain it will not be for another Argentine side) destination Europe, again probably a year earlier than people predicted, with sustained interest in Lamela from Napoli, Arsenal, City and reportedly Liverpool which I find pretty mad considering they have no base in SA (City have hired a South American scout to head up a new section of their scouting department for SA and Brazil/Argentina/Chile in particular).
Prices were banded around pre River Plate collapse at 10 million each but I think River would probably take 10 million for the pair at the minute, this transfer window/summer/end of season/pre season is the maddest and most unpredictable ever in my opinion I mean Marseille, Sampdoria, Blackpool (lol), Terek Drobzny (The Chechnyan team Hullit sent packing from the RPL)
Football is going mad! (Arguably already is)
Like most clubs, River has politicians in its upper echelons. Politicians need votes and votes can be swung by leaders of large hooligan gangs. So these guys end up owning fast food stalls at grounds or running merchandising outlets or touting tickets. Gustavo Grabia, the writer and expert on football hooliganism in Argentina, said recently that the top half-dozen figures at the head of these gangs stand to make about $80,000 a year in a country where 40 per cent of the population live on an annual income of $2,500.
It is also said that, when Gonzalo Higuain went from River to Real Madrid, the club gave the gangs $50,000 from the sale, just to keep them sweet. But kickbacks are not calming the mood much these days.
Rivers President needs to resign within the next 48 hours by the way or there will be a full scale riot, he is the one the fans have basically demonised (rightly so, where has all the money gone?Oh thats right Aguilar stole it, I'll let Pessarella off with that one).
Stayed up to watch that stream as well, glad the AFA haven't tried to 'bend' the rules for River either because that would be a FIFA style farce!
P.S Don't mention the Falklands it'll just make them angrier

I can confirm they are in debt (somehow)
Here are some of the figures about the current front of their finances and what they will lose in TV etc next season:
River are grappling with a debt of 280 million Argentine pesos ($68.33 million=Around 45 million Pounds) according to the local Argentinian website
MuyRiver - Magazine de River Plate and stand to lose 26.5 million pesos in television revenue when they play in the Nacional B division next season.
I would need a calculator but the the loss in tv revenue is probably around 5 million pounds but the insane sponsorship deals (long term deals that are already signed and in place regardless of division) should keep them afloat.
So overall not a complete disaster BUT they would have to get back up next season and with their current starting 11/squad in my opinion thats all but impossible.
Funes Mori and Lamela I am 70 pct sure will end up in Europe and my 'spidey senses' are telling me Lamela will end up at Napoli and Funes Mori at either Palermo, Athletico Madrid or Santos/Sao Paulo in Brazil (Brazilian options-Probably a loan deal for 12 months) Or Benfica could come back in with a 2-3 million offer and get their man.
