About River's relegation, here's one thing I can clearly see in Brazil. The relegation is, no doubts, a matter of joke forever(or until your rivals are relegated too), but for the club, it may prove to be the best moment for a revolution. I believe Athe~ is an Independiente fan, so he never faced the second division, and most of the European people would never imagine their team in the second division. Here, no país do futebol, 12 from the 17 teams who have already won the Brasileirão played the second division. Some, like the defending champs Fluminense, even played the 3rd tier of national football. The second division is a sure win(unless you're really, really struggling), so it's a year to concentrate in the political and financial aspects of the club. Anyway, I hope River to come back, and for Boca Jrs to be relegated. This way, the Libertadores will be easierXD
Like we say in Brazil, "Libertadores sem Boca e River já é meio caminho andado" (Libertadores without Boca and River is halfway done). Meanwhile, River's fans will have to dream, like Peter Crouch:

What about Independiente, who have won more Libertadores than any other team? Anyway, you might be right about the relegation, but all it will take for River is a couple poor results at the beginning and they could be there another year. As we saw the past couple seasons, the amount of pressure on them is tremendous, and it could be too much for them if they have a slow start. Especially since I'm guessing they're going to have to call up a lot of youth players and reserves who might be too young for the whole 'win or die' thing.

Racing and San Lorenzo have been relegated before (Racing was in the first year of the three year promotion thingy) and they recovered fine. Even if River has to spend an extra season or two in the B it won't be the end of the world. As mentioned previously, they still have their huge sponsorship deal with Adidas, and their huge fanbase will continue to buy tickets and merchandise. They'll have to be smart about their finances but when they make it back to the first division they will sell out every game and will start making up the deficit. I bet they'll come back a much better run club and will be challenging for titles in no time.

It amazes me how corrupt football is in Argentina...there have been so many awful owners that just suck the money out a club and run it really poorly. I don't understand how/why it happens.

Independiente is like Santos, who were never relegated, but had no good results after Pelé era. From 1973 to 2002, they we're dead, until Robinho/Diego times, everybody joked with San70s saying that they're Pelé's widows. Now, they're Libertadores champions, 50 years after the King. Palmeiras and Santos are the greatest national champions, 8 titles each. Peixe got 6 trophies with Pelé, and 2 new national titles with Robinho. O Alviverde Imponente won the Brazilian title in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 90's, but, in the new century, Palmeiras had 1 Libertadores Final, 1 semifinal(that, if not for Ubaldo Aquino, the ref, we would've beat Boca Jrs), 1 Série B and 1 Paulistão, while Santos won 4 Paulistas, 2 Brasileiros, 1 National Cup and 1 Libertadores. Football is about the moment, and that's what's happening. Santos - Greatest era since Pelé. Palmeiras - With the 80's, worst era ever. Independiente is slowly coming back, as they won the Sulamericana/Sudamericana. Palmeiras somehow lost a place in the final home against Goiás, who was already relegated in Brasileirão. During the 2009 season, Palmeiras, with Muricy Ramalho as manager, didn't get to Libertadores, after having a 15 points lead in the last 10 rounds, and having to face the last four teams on the table. That's a curse!

You could say the same about Independiente and Bochini, we've won hardly anything since he retired. I like the direction we're headed in, although not re-signing Gallego was a terrible decision (again, stupid owners) that was a big set-back (hence our horrible Apertura '10). I think Mohamed is a good coach though and we have a lot of good players in our squad. We have way too many players though and we have a lot of important decisions to make in the next couple months. What team are you for BTW?

In Argentina? Belgrano now, I believeXD
I used to like River becase they are Boca's rivals, and, as I'm Palmeirense, I hate Boca Jrs <) Then I found out that River sucks too, and I started following Estudiantes a bit, mostly because of La Bruja, Véron.

An awesome player, I had the privilege of seeing him play live a couple times. It's too bad he didn't make it in the Prem (injuries, lack of playing time, and it wasn't the right league for him) because a lot of people underappreciate him because of that. Estudiantes, Velez, and to a lesser extent, Lanus, are really the only teams in the past few seasons that have been consistently good and well-run, and in the case of Estudiantes I think a lot of that has to do with Veron.

Juan José Lopez - 4th relegation in his career. Not the best manager around :P

To be fair under him River Plate were pretty good this season. This has been the best torneo they've had in the past three years. They just choked in the playoff against Belgrano (and with the amount of pressure on them, it's sort of understandable).

Do you guys think El Burrito Ortega will join up with River this summer?

They had good results but they played like ****, 5 defenders and 2 holding midfielders, in a team that always favored attacking football. He got the results but he betrayed their philosophy. However, fans are fickle and as long as they won they cheered him but when things got nasty they turned against him.

And Ortega's loan is over so he will return to river, wether he likes it or not :P
