can you send me the link i cant find it, can only find his attacking one

It's the same tactic, I just changed mentality for tough games or when I was winning by two goals. Also the 3-4-3-0 strikerless by knap and TFF were probably the most effective tactics in FM17 and great for counter/underdogs though not the best for a 1000 goal striker!

Farewell to a Club Icon

The rise of River as a continental powerhouse and of Rodrigo Paulista as our superstar striker eventually led to the selling of club icon and lower league hero Gil. Gil was the inspirational leader of River's journey from third division to Série A title and Copa do Brasil. The striker was one of my first signings as River manager back in 2018 and immediately carried the club scoring at impressive rate in every competition.

His effort in season 2018 was absolutely amazing, not far from Rodrigo Paulista's numbers actually as Gil scored for fun in the weak Campeonato Piauiense but also had more goals than games played in Série C and Copa - three months out with a dislocated shoulder didn't stop him from scoring 63 goals that year.

Gil accepted an offer from China (though sadly he's still on the same low wages) and left River as all-time top scorer and holder of several scoring records. Of course all these records have been or will be smashed very soon by Rodrigo Paulista, but still we pay homage to a club icon and the original Rei do Gol of Piauí. Obrigado Gil!

Campeonato Piauiense 2021

So Gil is in China, and Rodrigo has become undisputed king of Piauí. His first full Campeonato Piauiense went pretty much as expected.

Paulista won again both Artilheiro and Best Player awards, setting a new state record with 53 goals in 18 matches, just a hair below the coveted hat-trick per game target.

Overall numbers looking good with a total 57 goals so far just before the start of Série A. Rodrigo confirmed his potential as a dead ball specialist as he scored 9/10 from the penalty spot while also finding the net on three direct free kicks. 53 goals in Piauí is obviously a very good result, though final games of the season were a bit disappointing as Paulista found the net with less consistency and even went scoreless for a whole game (!!!). Paulista was flying well over four goals per game in first stage, when the two best playmakers of the team left River as their relatively low release clauses were activated. It really made a world of a difference for Rodrigo, more than I expected as my reserves should still be all-world compared to Piauiense standard. The loss of wonderkid Julio Lopes was particularly tough.

Lopes, touted as the next Ronaldinho Gaucho, was the perfect complement for Paulista with his very good playmaking attributes and specific PPM's that I got him to learn in time. He had developed a strong partnership with Rodrigo on the pitch, and was the main creative force of the team and a consistent source of assists for Paulista. Palmeiras came out of the blue with a 7,25M offer that met his automatic clause and I couldn't even talk with the kid at that point. I do have a few wonderkids waiting in the wings, with similar potential and skillset (including a very promising trio of next Denilson, next Kaka and next Juninho Paulista), they're not there yet though. Hopefully one of them is ready to step up and claim a starting spot sooner rather than later, my veteran back-ups are decent but generally lack the vision and flair to create chances out of nowhere like Lopes did. We'll see...

Geez, the way Paulista is going he could hit 1000 just through the Piauli state championships before he retires.

At 50 a season he could do it by age 36 which isn't out of the question in terms of longevity, depending on how well he holds up when he eventually hits his decline, but that should be factored out by the fact he's hitting 50 already and clearly isn't in his prime yet, and realistically is still a few years off so could get better still.

Losing Lopes must be a real shame, hopefully he will return after you get some more success and one of the other 3 youngsters can step up to replace him in the mean time. Do you think any of the ones you mentioned have similar or better potential as playmakers than Lopes or that they seem likely to have a similar connection with Paulista?

p.s. that previous post was my first one in 3 years, and it's nice to see I'm remembered, seeing a familiar name, and friend, from my previous time here starting a new story pretty much the same time I came back I couldn't resist commenting, even if I don't get back to my previous levels of posting and if I check the forum less often than I used to back in the day I'll still be following this and checking in when I do visit and I look forward to seeing how he develops.

Holy ****, 53 goals in 18 games!

This record will be done and dusted by age 25 at this rate. Genuinely. When he's closer to his full potential, he could hit 70 in the Piauli alone. I could even see 130-150 per season in total. At that rate he'll be closer to 2000 by the end of his career!

Somewhat feels like 1,000 isn't much of a challenge seeing his recent goal numbers

Of course I always consider you a prominent member of the San Marino community and pioneer of SM leagues!

Not likely to buy Lopes back, it's hard to make enough money in Brazil even for clubs in Libertadores so most of my first team signings are free agents or cheap bargains on transfer list. It's much easier and convenient to rely on the mandatory release clause system and stockpile potential wonderkids at very low price (Lopes 575K, Rodrigo himself 1,4M) and develop them, though you've seen this can also work against me!

I have some very good prospects for the playmaker position but still need a bit of seasoning:

Cascao is developing well and he's a product of our academy which is always a bonus. He has the potential (next Denilson), but to become as effective as Lopes he needs to improve playmaking attributes and learn specific PPM's, while also building a partnership with the striker. Will probably give him green light in next Piauiense in 2022.

Yeah Piaui is a joke! I think four goals per game is realistic, I achieved that in FM17 in a similar Amazonas state and Paulista himself was over four per game before we lost our first choice playmakers. Serie A and cups are much more serious though and staying at 1 goal per game there against defensive teams would be a success.

1000 goals are not that hard with the Piaui bonus/cheat, main challenge long term will be keeping Paulista healthy (in my FM17 attempt Edio had 300+ goals at the age of 20, then I overplayed him and got him injured for 4 months, than rushed him back and he was out for another 4 months and I called it quits), and keeping myself interested and motivated. Repetitiveness of goals scored and ME don't really help!

Yeah, the Piaui league/cheat is really powerful! But... what if Rodrigo won't sign an extension? What if he tore an anterior cruciate ligament next week? What if I feel the need of starting a new San Marino save? Still so many things that can go wrong!

what ppm for the 3 cm and 3 attackers would you recommend?

what ppm for the 3 cm and 3 attackers would you recommend?

Always depends on players attributes (e.g. you don't want a below average passer attempting lots of killer balls), generally I'd train all of them except central striker to 'refrain from taking long shots' and 'look for pass rather than shot', to get more balls to main striker and also because I tend to hate long shots in FM!

For central striker I like 'plays one-twos', 'knock balls past opponent' (if quick) and 'run with ball through centre' (if good dribbler), plus 'shoots with power' that I found most successful in FM17.

Wide strikers depend on how you use them: for a pacey winger type I'd use 'knocks ball past opponents', 'run with ball to right (if right footed) and 'plays one-twos'. For a creative DLF type I'd use 'comes deep to get ball' and 'tries killer balls' while playing him on inverted side (right footed at STCL).

For more offensive CM/playmaker type also 'killer balls' and 'comes deep to get ball'. Deeper CM's with good passing, vision, decisions also 'tries long range passes' and 'dictates tempo'.

started a new save to try and emulate this. im using my beloved man united (not going to start it really until some of the old heads have gone and some potential candidates appear)
anyway i have decided my central attacker will be martial as he has the plays one twos ppm. was thinking about rashford as he has the knocks ball past opponent ppm.
so far martial has 12 goals in 13 appearances. not like your results but so far so good.
do you have any tips to improve on this?

Those are very good numbers for a young player in a very good league, I'd be happy to keep that average at that level of football. Paulista's numbers in Campeonato Piauiense are only possible because of poor level of opposition: think Manchester United playing against Vanarama National league clubs.

My tip would be surrounding the striker with good passers with high decisions and teamwork, and specific PPM's as in previous post. Also attacking WB's with high stamina and work rate will provide chances from the flanks (low crosses on near post are the best for the type of striker I use). Good luck!

Paulista-tuesque! Rodrigo had a very strong start in Série A staying well above one goal per game in first part of the season. As expected teams are playing more defensively against title holders River, and we generally have a tough time creating clean chances or attacking in space like we used to do last year. We're absolutely destroying teams on corner kicks and set pieces (throw ins and indirect free kicks) though, and for some reason Rodrigo is always there finding goals in the garbage of the game! I don't have a particular set-up for him, we do have A LOT of chances from set pieces and Rodrigo is just there hunting goals. Unusually high number of penalties (converted at excellent rate) also helping Paulista's cause. Maybe not always pretty to watch, but **** effective!

A bittersweet moment for Rodrigo Paulista as he gets his first call-up for Brazil in september...

... but he's forced out of the team due to injury!

Bad timing for Paulista as he misses his possible debut for Brazil, as well as a few crucial games for River including semifinal of Copa do Brasil. It's Rodrigo's first 'real' injury of the year after a couple of 1-2 days knocks; 14 days on the sidelines isn't really that bad, but pulled ankle ligaments is something to monitor in the future to avoid developing a recurring injury. Hopefully the young striker can make a full recovery soon and go back to his amazing form . With three months to the end of the season the 100 goals mark is looking very possible for Paulista.

i bought moutinho to play as one of the wider striker due to his ppms (tries killer balls, attempts to pass rather than shoot, comes deep to collect ball, dictates tempo) good idea or not? only 9 assists in 28 games. would have expected more to be honest

I consider wide strikers as winger/playmaker/inside forward hybrid so generally prefer them to be pretty quick. I think Moutinho lacks the pace to beat defenders and be a counter threat as a wide striker, personally I'd play him in midfield because he's creative, hard working and competent at defending. 9 assists isn't that bad though!

100 goals...

... and counting...

due to long term injury to martial. i opted to play james wilson as the central striker due to his ppms ( rounds keeper and moves into channels) currently he has 31 goals in 26 appearances. must had i trained him to play one twos as well

correction: make that 37 goals in 29 appearances
