Road to Glory : The Manager

Good news though that higher up clubs are starting to take notice of your efforts! Wont be long before a premiership club comes calling!!

Yeah was nice to see, almost applied for the Manchester City job but didn't feel the board aggro would be worth it haha! Don't know if I want to leave Crewe for a bit though because of this young group of players coming through!

Bore draw in a clash with second-placed, local rivals Shrewsbury. It was anticipated to be a top clash as we are very strong in front of goal while they are strong at the back. However, we cancelled each other out throughout the 0-0. No real winners, Joronen made 2 big saves as he grabs a second clean sheet on the trot while Michu constantly missed easier chances thankfully.

Incredibly close now. Ten points separates 1st and 12th - 4 points between us and 7th and 1 point between us and 4th.

While we advanced in the FA Cup with no real problems from Gateshead the main story of the night is that young Liam Warren got his first start in the middle of the park after 6 substitute appearances thus far. The boy clearly looked nervous and despite reassuring him there was no pressure he managed to pick up 2 booking in a matter of seconds to see himself sent off in the first half.

He'll be warned about the consequences of us docking wages, but ultimately he's 16 and was thrown out there at last minutes notice as Dalton, another youngster, wasn't ready to start after returning from injury.

He is now working closely with Tom Hateley in an attempt to improve minor details in his game while we continue to involve him in the first team.

Young Dalton will now work with Rafael Van Der Vaart in an effort to improve his game, especially after 3 months on the sideline with a torn hamstring.

"Hi, James. How come you wanted to see me?" Roche said, as I entered. He hadn't said anything to me when Birmingham approached but a few close to him said they were happy I was wanting to stay and it was almost Christmas and I was very busy working away with player and staff contracts when I quickly remembered mine was up - and I can't renew my own so I thought I'd go ask for one. I wanted more money too, I had put the club in a decent financial position and I had this new arrogance about me when I was near Roche so I made it clear that we would be playing in the Championship this time next year.

"Yeah, I want a new deal." I said, as I pulled out a seat and sat down. Pulling out my laptop and throwing my agents 'Skype' details up. He was busy working another deal elsewhere in the country but was able to jump in a call if necessary - which was nice, most agents would make sure they were there just for a fee but we had other arrangements in place.

"Oh, of course. Okay. Well, we have something ready for you." Roche stammered, clambering into his top drawer. He panicked at my arrival, I don't know why. I continued to just talk anyway.

"I know I came in as a cheap option, but I have worked wonders around this club and the Championship beckons. So it better be generous!" I laughed, getting comfier in the chair as he just glanced back up at me.

"I'd like a new feeder club too, someone of decent quality - we can poach youngsters and give them a few on loan for developmental purposes." I added.

"Of course, okay. We can work on that." Roche sat back and pushed a small folder towards me.

I looked at it, it would add 1 year onto my deal and it didn't budge from £1300 per week. I wanted to live. I mean £65,000 or so per annum was decent but I'd like to have pushed nearer to £2000.

"No!" Roche exclaimed, before I called in the agent and Roche ending up saying we could meet at £1600. I continued to put into perspective how I'd handled myself and the club and eventually we met at £1900 per week.

Another hat trick in an unbelievable performance! 3 shots, 3 goals - albeit one was a penalty. Didn't misplace one of his 15 passes either. Win puts us 4 clear at the top but Shrewsbury do have a game in hand.

20th goal of the season falls on November 18th, absolutely on fire!

"And in League One league leaders Crewe have failed to win at Scunthorpe despite an early goal from Tony Watt - he really is on fire, isn't he? Crewe will remain top and are still without a loss in eleven! It is looking good for them so far this season. James McKenzie must be happy enough!"

When Kenny Martin approached me after a few days of training with the first team rather than the youth side I was expecting him to ask about his chances in the first team or a general question, but it turns out his agent has him linked to Premier League outfit Burnley. The also picked up our young keeper Luke Fry for £600,000 last season. I was shocked to be honest, I had just given him a shot with the likes of Rafael Van Der Vaart and hot-topic Tony Watt and now he was buzzing for "Premier League" football with Burnley.

I let him know I was wanting to keep him at the club but he was happy to go now and Burnley flung an offer in later that day. I was a fan of Steve Bruce so I decided to happily talk through the deal. At first I was thinking of around £1,200,000 but really that is a steep figure and eventually we found ourselves agreeing on an upfront fee of £450,000 and another £300,000 over the next year with a little more coming in when he made his first appearance for them.

No FA Cup magic this year after 2 awful decisions leave us with a loss. Rhys Bennett wasn't the last man while replays showed Tony Watt to be onside with his 94th minute strike.

Also can't help but feel the players were focused on the media's attention on me - continuing to link me with the London Road post, despite no contact between myself and the club. We now have League One to completely focus on as we have a very tough, congested 2 months coming up which will finalise a real mold of the league.

Gonna be hard to hang around at Crewe with all these big clubs becoming interested in you mate! Great stuff!

If they approached I don't know if I'd have gone, the Premier League is daunting for a young man - also desperate to get Crewe into the Championship and try bring some of these kids through. But we shall see.

"Two weeks wages?!" Demanded George Ray as he slammed my door behind him, waving about the letter of notice. He had been sent off in our 2-1 defeat at Plymouth.

"It's your fourth ****** red card, George? What can you expect? You'll be missing almost ten games through suspension so far this season. What can you expect?" I rose to my feet, before slowing chilling out.

"No way should I have gotten that second yellow though, boss?" he pleaded, I mean - it wasn't a yellow but Ray had complained about his first and for the second he was aggressive while going into the challenge.

"Look, we are without you for another 4 games now. You just missed 3 not that long ago. Stop being a f'n idiot on the park." I responded. I mean, I wasn't in the wrong - was I?

"You've not heard the last of this. I'm not happy at all!
" Ray raged back and stomped out.

We were at the half way stage in the league now, recently we had hit some choppy form - mainly after our FA Cup exit and we were dropping stupid points.

We were still up there and unbeaten at home. We were still chasing the top 2 in the league and I wouldn't mind grabbing a winners medal but promotion would do. We were playing thrilling football and a lot of praise came in but we weren't bringing fans through the gate which was a real shame - especially with the media attention Tony Watt would continue to receive on a national scale. And no wonder!

He has slowed up in the past few games as we have just been dreadful.

Failing to score on 4 occasions and only scoring 2 in the last 4! We have been very solid, just need to pick it up again now that we enter January.

Despite recent form not being great we managed to sneak past Brighton with a 1-0 and goal from Bossaerts, from there we had Morecambe away to contend with and it all looked like doom and gloom when they managed to find themselves 2-0 up.

Great to know the fighting spirit is still there! Bossaerts grabs another goal from centre back meaning he has 2 in 2 and it left us only 1 down with 45 to go. Watt looked slow after picking up a knock but still managed to score a cracker that went in off the post from outside the box. We continued to press and Lawrence won a penalty and with no Watt on the park, Lawrence wanted it and managed to score it.

Delighted with the 2 hard-fought wins on the bounce as we seem to be back on the right track.
