1st of all the money you're giving us now, is what we made for the country with the industry anyway, an the car plants, vauxhall is in ellesmere port in merseyside, land rover is in the midlands, rolls royce was founded by a manc, dno wer they make em now like, so not too sure where the car industry is in london there mate, also, a lot of coal comes from wales, and the town i lived in in manchester used to have a coal mine too, and also theres some in cornwall, that is the south but still not london, an aberdeen in scotland has all the oil in the uk, a lot of the best ships have been manafactured in liverpool, an also barrow makes the nuclear subs for the navy, and then theres a load of bae systems around the north west which help in the design and building of fighter jets for the u.s an uk, an there always be an industry for war materials, so we still have a good industry there now without london
Lol I don't think you got what I was saying...
1) London has no large scale manufacturing
2) All the Car Companies you mention are either gone or going.
3) 99% of Coal Mines are closed
4) Scotlands Oil Reserves in the North sea are drying up 15 years max
5) The Shipbuilding industry in this country relies on orders from the Government and Big Businesses in London and across the world, Furthermore Shipbuilding has hit a slump... In addition it costs to buy in raw materials like Iron/Steel/Rubber etc. which we don't produce here.
6) BAE systems is downsizing and in truth the global market for arms is firmly in America with Lockheed Martin, Halliburton, Carslyle Group etc.
7) The few interests BAE have in the UK are in Barrow, which has only had 1 submarine order in 3 years.
8) Regardless of the historic worth of the north or south, thats either here nor there, How does that impact on the survival of the UK's economy today ? It doesn't thats the point.
9) Without the finance sector in London and the Foreign money that flows through it the country couldn't afford to power factories, shipbuilding etc, In addition the Tertiary industries (Offices, Retail etc) rely on it and they employ the most people along with the British Government.
10) once again you seem to percieve that I'm saying it just to bluster about how great London is.. I'm not, I'm just being rational and saying that the Money in this country as of the 21st Century is in London.
Finally... What do you think would happen if the Square Mile disappeared tomorrow, I'd love ot get rid of the corrupt bastards that run it but ultimately this country will bankrupt within 24 hours.
I'm not saying that the North isn't a great place, I was saying that foreign players from warmer climates may not want to go there for that reason or for the reason that the culture is very different from the southern European/American culture they are used to. What I was also saying is that without London the north would collapse as would the rest of the country.
