Salford City announce link with neighbors

View attachment 226592Moor Lane, Salford

Most of us here in Salford have grown accustomed to the broken concrete fencing that surrounds the football pitch on Moor Lane, and the big orange sign saying “This is Moor Lane, Home of Salford City F.C.” Well… it seems now, that those fences of broken concrete dreams will soon be just a figment of the past… Today, Chairman Darren Quick announced an array of changes he hopes will secure the future of Salford City and help them to become a financially stable professional club.

View attachment 226597

The semi-professional outfit who play their home games at Moor Lane, have announced a link with local club Manchester United.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's comment were fairly short on the subject, "They're a local side in need of a hand, and happen to be rivals with a few clubs who don't like us, so theres that."

The link will apparently see the two sides play an annual friendly and also allow Salford Reserves side to play their home games at The Cliff, in Salford. (Former training ground of the United first team until they moved to Carrington in 1999)

View attachment 226598View attachment 226599

Also as a part of the deal, 16 year old centre back Matthew Wilkinson and 15 year old striker Sam Byrne have gone on loan to Salford for the coming season. It's thought that the pair will join the Salford U18's squad for training at Salford Sports Village.

View attachment 226600

On top of announcing a link with one of the world biggest clubs, Salford have also struck a new sponsorship deal with local company Salford Van Hire, which will see them become the new kit sponsor and main stadium sponsor, the deal is reported to bring around £7,000 into the club over the coming season.

Maradonaldino

View attachment 226601

Salford City F.C. Chairman Darren Quick had another suprise in store for local fans today. The appointment of Cristiego Maradonaldinho! Who is he you ask? A man who is eligble to play for Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and England must be some type of legend.

It seems the new number one in Salford is a little bit of a jack the lad... Born in Manchester, he has lived allover South America and Europe, playing in sunday league teams, five-a-side matches, kick-up tournaments and even beach football... He claims to have nutmegged Eric Cantona bare-foot and says he has never spoken to anyone at Depoll, were not too sure how literally to take either.

Lionel Baggio

We did manage to track down a man named Lionel Baggio who says he played in San Marino with Cristiego. When asked about the appointment, He had this to say... "Why you think they call him Maradonaldinho!"

Cristiego Maradonaldinho speaking from his holidays

After a busy week at Salford City F.C. for Assistant Manager Rhodri Giggs, Cristiego Maradonaldinho finally showed his face to the fans. The man who claims to have been born in the summer of 1975, told us how his ingrowing toe-nail stopped him making the big time, many tales from his paper-round in the Lake District and his famous Cantona nutmeg moment in Monaco.

It turns out that Maradonaldinho is a big Man Utd fan and has stated that he would one day like to manage them, I doubt this went down too badly with locals, as he did say he would like to win the Champions League with Salford before leaving.

From his holiday destination somewhere in Honolulu, he welcomed signings to the club, by saying "I'd like to welcome our new signings" In the same breath he said, "Also, Some players left, now they will play somewhere else instead" We are not yet certain who his signings are and we beleive he refers to Alex Mortimer, Adam Morning, Matt Cross, Liam Coyne, Darren Hockenhull, Andy Robertson, Gavin Salmon and Martyn Andrews who were released.

Salford release transfer details

This afternoon, speaking from Salford Sports Village, Salford City assistant, Rhodri Giggs spoke of the ins-and-outs at Salford over the past week. View attachment 226805Rhodri Giggs Salford City F.C. Player/Assist Man.

Giggs started by declaring that Alex Mortimer, Liam Coyne, Martyn Andrews, Gavin Salmon, Adam Morning and Matthew Cross had in fact, all been released from the club. He said the reason for the departures had been to make way for new arrivals at the club, and wished the former Salfordians the best of luck with their future clubs.

Giggs then went on to tell of Salford's new signings... "I'd like to take a moment to welcome a few new faces to the club. Firstly, coaches John Warrington, Neil Webb and Ben Thornley, both Neil, Ben & John have local knowledge and seem to understand our aim for the club. Ben has also been given a playing contract and will be managing the under 18's side."

Chairman Quick to change colours

Since they were founded in 1940, Salford City have played their home matches in their notorious Orange strip with Black trim. Many fans love their orange shirts, but will now have to trade orange for white!.

View attachment 226819

Salford City F.C. Chairman, Darren Quick, was at the Salford Sports Village today with five more Salford City signings, showing off their new strip. Mr Quick gave us a few words, "When designing the kit, we were thinking of moving forward, we kept the original colours and used them for the trim, we are hoping that this new, brighter look will encourage hope not only within the team, but also the fans." Here is an exclusive first look at the new Salford City home shirt.

All but two of Salford City's signings this season were unattached before joining the club, Kevin Townson joined from Prescot Cables & Philip Palethorpe was at Cammell Laird.

No matchstick men at the Lowry

After returning from his holidays just ten days ago, and with many fans believing that the day to day affairs of the club are in the hands of Rhodri Giggs. Salford City Manager Cristiego Maradonaldinho spoke to fans for just the second time since taking the number one job at Moor Lane, this time, from English soil, more specifically, The Lowry Centre conference room in Salford.

View attachment 226821
Maradonaldinho had much to say and answered many questions from journalists... When asked about the first teams great pre-season performances, then the 7-0 loss at the hands of Man Utd and wether or not his absence had caused the slump, he had this to say... "Ok, we played Manchester United, what do you expect, we fought hard, but we lost, I dont blame my players, They are more fit now and ready for the season ahead, and after my holidays, I feel i have the energy to tackle this league, you know football management is a very stressful environment, I have to stay relaxed best I can."

He also took a moment to introduce the new club physio Paul Clarkson, stating that "He's a nice guy, and he brought his own Deep Heat".

Salford City get season underway with FA Cup win

View attachment 226830

This afternoons football saw local side Salford City play their first senior match of the season, away to Ryman League Division One South club Merstham, who were favorites to win the match. An outstanding performance from the Salford side, and loan player Sam Byrne saw Salford City do the unthinkable and go through to the first round of the FA Cup.

The side who are predicted to finish 18th in the league this season are certainly showing they are no push-overs.

Is Maradonaldinho asking for miracles?

View attachment 227064
Everybody at Salford City F.C. seems to be pleased with the start Maradonaldinho has made at the club, everyone apart from the man himself that is.

After the board stating in pre-season that they were hoping to consolidate their place in the league this season, Maradonaldinho's promises of a mid-table finish maybe did seem a little out of reach. That was of course, until now, the general consensus on the matter. But after their first six games in the league, Salford find themselves having won three, lost two and drawn one, leaving them in 5th place, just three points behind race leaders Prescot Cables.

At a time like this, you tend to imagine the manager would be pleased. Although comments from Assistant Rhodri Giggs seem to prove otherwise... "It's a bit strange really, we held a team meeting yesterday, which everybody at the club just assumed was to congratulate the lads on their great start".

Giggs went on to tell of the meeting and of an over-enthusiastic Maradonaldinho... "The manager started by saying that he was pleased. I thought, pleased?!.. thats a bit of an understatement. Then... he outright told the players they should be aiming for the number one spot, I know were only three points behind, but its early days, and I just think that type of pressure could lead the team to worrying on match days" View attachment 227070 Just four days before their FA Cup First Round away tie with Blue Square Premier side Southport, Maradonaldinho had this to say... "I did not become a manager to lose games and miss out on promotions, there is one promotion spot in our league and it must be our goal. Many people, including some of my own players, do not believe we have what it takes to get promoted this season. We have two solutions to that problem... they find faith, or they find a club who they believe can succeed".

Quite a firm message from the Salford City Manager. One that certainly indicates that an, 'I told you so', moment is on the cards one way or another come the end of the season.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 1 View attachment 227073
Salfords Sam Byrne took the his chance with a headed effort from Rhodri Giggs's floating corner just 2 minutes into the match. Things were going great until and equally fashionable header from team-mate Jason Andrews cancelled out Byrne's earlier efforts. Favorites Cammell Laird never really got into the game and with Salford hitting woodwork no less than 3 times in the second half, they can count themselves lucky to have taken a point.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 2 View attachment 227074
Firm favorites for their away match, Farsley will be kicking themselves after losing to Salford City. Again, Salford's Sam Bynre was on form giving The Ammies the lead with a 22nd minute self crafted opportunity. 4 minutes later, Farsley's Josh Radcliffe brought down man-of-the-match Jack Redshaw, and captain for the day Mattie Burke slotted home Salford's second. Just seven mintes before half time, sloppy defending saw Salford conceed with Mark Ward pouncing on a loose ball as three Salford players all hesitated. The final goal of the day came from Kevin Townson, as he hit home his penalty. Jack Redshaw again being brought down in the box, this time by Lee Connor.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 3 View attachment 227075
A pretty boring game all in all, with the only goal coming from an 11th minute Steven Lozano-Calderon corner that found the head of central midfielder Richard Minor. Both teams cancelled each other out for the remainder of the match.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 4 View attachment 227077
Salford just never got their act together today, the lack of fitness in the first team regulars was starting to show. Richard Cooper put Wakefield in front after 38 minutes. The only other incident of note was Mark Ryan's red card in the 85th minute for a wild challenge on Salford's Steve Jagielka.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 5 View attachment 227078
After resting some players and recommending other play with the reserves this week for fitness, Salford City were apparently not at full strength, Although, Steven Lozano-Calderon and Kevin Townson would tell you otherwise. Both got their name on the scoresheet, with Townson hitting home in the 86th minute, meaning Woodley's one goal from Kyle McGonigle, wasnt enough to stop The Ammies from taking all three points.

(Evo-Stik Northern League - Division One North) Game 6View attachment 227076
A great game to watch today, as Salford City went into this match as underdogs and nearly stole a draw with 10 men. After 20 minutes, Garforth were already 2 goals to the good with Peter Spillane and Adam Preistly both scoring great looking goals. Salford hit back on 23 minutes with Jason Andrews hitting a scorcher from 35 yards out. The second half saw Garforth score yet again, making it 3-1 with Ben Thornton's effort. Only for Salford's Jack Redshaw to respond pretty much instantly. A great team effort saw Jack Redshaw go through in the 89th minute to set up Mattie Burke for the equaliser, Burke scored but was ruled offside by the linesman.

Salford feel they could have won!

After making it through the Qualifiers to get to the FA Cup First Round, Salford City's hopes of reaching the next stage were this afternoon dashed. Salford played Blue Square Premier outfit Southport, away at Haig Avenue.

500 fans turned out the watch the match, which was for the most part controlled by Salford City.

Salford City will have to blame their lack of prowess in front of goal for todays loss in Southport.

Only 14 minutes had passed and already Salford had created three or four clear cut chances, with Richard Minor and Kevin Townson failing to convert any of them. From then on, it looked like the only Southport player who had showed up for the match was central midfielder, Godfrey Poku, who carved himself a few chances, and Salford continued to dominate until half time.

The second half saw much of the same, Salford holding most of the possession and Godfrey Poku on a one man mission. At this point, Salford fans must have thought they were in with a shout...

It was in the 77th minute that one mans solo efforts were guaranteed to be recorded in the book of FA Cup history. Godfrey Poku picked up the ball just inside the Salford half, taking a few paces, he readied himself for what looked like an impossible shot. By this time, there was nothing Mattie Burke or Richard Minor could do and Poku rifled his shot off, screaming past the Salford defence ending up in the top left corner of the net, a wonder goal and outstanding performance from Poku.

Strangely enough, Salford continued to dominate the match, and even came close to equalizing with Sam Byrne scarcely being gifted an open-net opportunity in the 89th minute. Although the pressure managed to get to Jason Andrews who was red carded for his reckless challenge on tireless Poku.

Salford City Boss, Cristiego Maradonaldinho told fans after the match that he was pleased with his sides efforts and that he hoped to go even further in next years competition.

Maradonaldinho gambles - and wins!

View attachment 227086

Today, Salford City F.C. Chairman, Darren Quick, released a statement detailing the clubs finances, in the hopes of solidifying the faith that fans seem to have in the apparent rise of Salford City F.C.

Although the club does seem financially sound, the revelation that manager Maradonaldinho has for the last three months been grossly overspending on player and staff wages is somewhat alarming.

During pre-season, Maradonaldinho had apparently asked for a more sufficient wage budget to be able to fill gaps in the squad, and had been denied by the board, who had set a £650 p/w limit on player wages.

Today, Darren Quick told The Salford Advertiser, that Maradonaldinho had infact signed a number of players and the wage budget had crept to nearly £950 p/w.

When asked to explain his decisions, the Salford City Manager had told the board that the FA Cup had to be his priority, as reaching the Third Round would do more for the finances than winning the league twice.

Although they didn't reach the Third Round, Salford City did net a tidy £16,000 from playing in the competition, £6,000 for reaching the First Round and £10,000 for playing in the First Round.

Maybe in fairness, you shouldn't gamble on such a thing as reaching the FA Cup Third Round, but Maradonaldinho did, and he had this to say. "Yes, I planned on money from the FA Cup. To be precise, I needed an extra £300 per week over the next season, and by my calculations, £16,000 covers it nicely."

In light of the stable financial situation at the club, the Salford City board have now increased the wage budget to £975 p/w

Philip Palethorpe was released from the club this afternoon, after a disagreement with manager Cristiego maradonaldinho.

Palethrope had apparently been unhappy at the lack of first team football. First Team Coach Neil Wood told The Manchester Evening news, that Maradonaldinho had terminated Palethorpe's contract after the player had shown a blatant disregard for his Managers wishes that he stay at the club as a rotation player. Palethorpe's apparent response was that he did not care to do so and wanted to leave.

Salford City F.C. have also opened their books to an array of youth talent. This news comes after Maradonaldinho stated that he would not be signing any more players this season. All but one of the players, Nicholas Barrett, (who joined the first team squad for training), will be under the watchful eye of Under 18's manager Ben Thornley.

AFC Flyde were firm favorites to win today, and most fans were expecting them to do so with a heavy scoreline. Fact is, it was Salford who won by a clear three goal margin.
Richard Minor netted after just 5 minutes, then a Mattie Burke penalty gave Salford their second. Sam Bryne made it 3-0 after 20 minutes, and 7 minutes later, Flyde returned fire in the form of Chris Ellerbeck. Second half substitute Cayne Hanley got his name on the scoresheet with Salford's 4th goal in his first game back from injury.

Warrington fans will be dissapointed after their side failed to take any points from a game they thought was surely theirs. Salford's Sam Byrne scored just 27 seconds into the first half, setting a new club record. This was cancelled out just 5 minutes later by a Tom Hardwick effort. The teams went in for half time with the score level.

In the second half, Jason Andrews scored a 40 yard stunner to give Salford the lead. Warrington's Matt Doughty was given his second yellow card and escorted from the pitch at 77 minutes. Then, 3 minutes before the final whistle, Kevin Townson put the game entirely out of reach with a tap-in from just outside the 6 yard box.

Salford salute Byrne as they lose Star Player to injury

View attachment 227223
Man Utd Academy's Sam Byrne

Salford fans will be cursing their luck as Salford City's loan striker and top goalscorer this season, Sam Byrne, suffers a torn hamstring whilst sprinting during training this week. Just 2 days after becoming the clubs fastest ever goal scorer when finding the net only 27 seconds into the match against Warrington.

The injury is expected to keep him out of action for around 4 to 5 months. As a result, Byrne's loan contract has been terminated and he has returned to Manchester United to undergo medical treatment.

Salford City Chairman, Darren Quick has wished Sam the best of luck with his future at United and also a speedy recovery. Mr. Quick also said that if Sam ever wanted to return to Salford, he would be more than welcome to do so.

Byrne made 12 senior appearances in his time at Salford City, scoring 7 goals, and picking up 3 man of the match awards.

GUTTED

Rather than update my story to the end of the season. I have been forced to quit the game.

My own stupid fault... just about to play game 38 of 42 and I noticed Chelsea had sign a Russian dude for £20mil.

I thought, wait... its March!!!

Turns out - the database I had made, I forgot to add transfer windows in the nation rules...

I just dont have it in me to play through the rest of the game with players being allowed to move clubs whenever they want.

Am going to start again, but as Im connecting to the forum through my HTC, and also very near to having our first child, im not sure i'll have the time to update.

Maybe i will lol

Thanks to every1 who read this story...

Good luck with all your stories =)
