Most of us here in Salford have grown accustomed to the broken concrete fencing that surrounds the football pitch on Moor Lane, and the big orange sign saying “This is Moor Lane, Home of Salford City F.C.” Well… it seems now, that those fences of broken concrete dreams will soon be just a figment of the past… Today, Chairman Darren Quick announced an array of changes he hopes will secure the future of Salford City and help them to become a financially stable professional club.

The semi-professional outfit who play their home games at Moor Lane, have announced a link with local club Manchester United.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's comment were fairly short on the subject, "They're a local side in need of a hand, and happen to be rivals with a few clubs who don't like us, so theres that."
The link will apparently see the two sides play an annual friendly and also allow Salford Reserves side to play their home games at The Cliff, in Salford. (Former training ground of the United first team until they moved to Carrington in 1999)

Also as a part of the deal, 16 year old centre back Matthew Wilkinson and 15 year old striker Sam Byrne have gone on loan to Salford for the coming season. It's thought that the pair will join the Salford U18's squad for training at Salford Sports Village.

On top of announcing a link with one of the world biggest clubs, Salford have also struck a new sponsorship deal with local company Salford Van Hire, which will see them become the new kit sponsor and main stadium sponsor, the deal is reported to bring around £7,000 into the club over the coming season.
