New Contract

View attachment 275264
The board have clearly been happy with the job I have done so far and offered me an extension on my current contract which I was more than happy to discuss. The board did offer an increase on my wage, however as the club are struggling financially I have decided to agree an extension at my current wage to help balance the books. I am delighted to have agreed an extra year here although I hope there are many more to come.

You're an absolute saint! Refusing a pay rise to help the club out, I want you as my manager!

The town would revolt if they let you leave after the start you've given them!

Quick story .....

So we're in our favourite wine bar in Madrid early November. The Monday before we (Liverpool) played Real this season. And there's 4 lads with shirts on we didn't recognise. But we did recognise the Basque flag one had on his back. Nico, a Belgium among our number, is a translator for his career. So we get a three way Scouse/ Belgium/ Basque conversation going and the wines flowing :P and it turns out they're in Madrid for the Monday night game at Rayo Vallecano. Which has us immediately thinking 'Hmmm. Vallecano' Never been there. New ground!' and asking them if they had any spare tickets. Which wasn't needed as we could just stroll up and buy tickets for any area. So we leave the Eibar fans bemused telling them we might see them later in the evening. And low and behold, later on that day, when we got on the metro, we ran into the same four fans and more of their friends on the way to Vallecano ..... Absolutely BRILLIANT night and we literally were Kings for the evening. BOTH the Vallecano and Eibar fans LOVED that fans of Liverpool has taken the time to go watch their respective teams. We went in the Eibar section with our new 'friends' and had a fantastic time as Eibar won 3-2.

New friendships were born and Scouse/ Basque relations cemented.

A WAY better night than the game the following day we were in Madrid for. LOL.

Sorry for boring you, but I just wanted to recount that to say I've been watching out for Eibar's results all year and will be following this one.

That's an awesome story mate, I would love to have gone to either game haha. I have to say, other than watching on sky sports I didn't know much about Eibar, but since I started this story and read up on them a lot I have really grown to love them. Cheers for following mate

December

As we enter December we are sitting pretty in 11th place, 5 points of 4th and 8 points off of 18th, I think I can speak for everyone involved at the club when I say that we are all on cloud nine and just enjoying this fantastic season we are having.

A good result with a slightly rotated team, even though Betis are now in the Segunda, they still have a good squad and we did very well to get a good result away from home.

SD Eibar Vs Almeria

A very even bore draw but still a welcome result, every point we gain takes us another step closer to safety so I will take them all as they come. Its also worth noting this is our 3rd clean sheet in a row.

Sevilla Vs SD Eibar

View attachment 275113
A tough game against an in-from side with the leagues top scorer in Bacca. Sevilla dominated the game as expected but we did well to limit them to just the two goals and we did manage the get goal late on and apply pressure until the final whistle. A good effort from the lads.

I wanted to ensure we got through to the next round so I set the team up very defensively and hit Betis on the break, it got the job done, I would have liked to have put the game to bed early but all that mattered was won the tie.

SD Eibar Vs Valencia

View attachment 275105
This has to go down as the best result of my short career so far and one of the clubs greatest wins. We didn't necessarily dominate or have more chances but we was clinical and we defended brilliantly to keep another clean sheet. It is worth noting Valencia would have been 3rd had they won.

League Table

We are still in a great mid-table position as we enter the Christmas period, we now have a 2 week break to get on the training ground and prepare for the second half of the season. I heard a conversation of European football in the ground the other day.. Maybe??

Wow! So how are you going to spend all that money? Messi? :P

January

As we enter the new year we are in slightly strange terrain, I hadn't really prepared myself for being in this position. The team has continued to improve I am extremely proud of what we have achieved. My only worry is that by the end of the season we will be in deep financial troubles, we really need to finish in a lofty league position.

League Table

View attachment 275026
Another great month for us despite being knocked out of the Spanish Cup, with another 7 points out of 6 games in the league taking us ever closer to that holy grail of mid-table and the reality of another season in La Liga is really starting to seem like a reality now, I just hope my team can keep up their fantastic efforts right to the last match.

PS. sorry for the lack of write up in this update but I've got to take the family out for the day today and wanted to get one more update in before we head out.

So I kind of got completely engrossed in this game last night and this morning and I have played through to the end of the season, I shall just give an end of season overview and then continue as before for next season.

Overview

As I look back over the past season I can feel nothing but pride at our club record breaking season, we did have a bit of a wobble over the last 6-7 weeks but by that point we were already pretty much safe. Despite our dip in form and fortune we still managed to achieve an outstanding 11th place, a position that we could only have dreamed of at the start of the campaign. The problem we have now is, where do we go from here, with half of our squad being loan players and the other half either being out of contract in the summer and unwilling to sign a new contract or they are too old to compete at this level, with our financial situation still not improving, I am going to have to be very, very clever in the transfer market to be able to match this seasons outstanding achievements. I have had interest from other clubs across Europe but I am dedicated to my job here at the Ipurua and I do not plan on jumping ship any time soon.

Season 2 - Pre-season

Friendlies

View attachment 273756
The new season is upon us, in my opinion this will be a much tougher season then the last, this year their will be much higher expectation after such a fantastic performance last term. I decided to set up some very tough fixtures for this years friendlies for two reasons, one because I wanted to give the team a real warm up and see where we are in our preparations. More importantly I wanted to help the team out financially, receiving between £200-600k a fixture for the matches against Real, Barca, Galatasary and Milan could not be turned down.

I had a tough job on my hands during this summer period to make sure I brought the right players in on a very small budget, just like last year, most of my dealings were either loan or free deals. The most notable free transfers being Patric, Raul Navas back after a successful loan spell last season and Jem Karacan. I am very excited about some of my loan signings, in particular Bakkali from Arsenal, Marcano from Porto and Moses from Chelsea. Also although it is not highlighted above I have also agreed deals to bring both Bacuna and last season top scorer Enrich back for another season. I definitely think the squad is much stronger on paper this season and I have seen enough in training to suggest we could have another very successful season here at Ipurua.

August Fixtures

We have some nice games to get us up and running in La Liga, I fully expect us to achieve at least 6 points from our opening 3 matches, although you never quite can tell in this league

Great result last season! Doing great with what you have. Good luck for the upcoming season!

Great 1st season mate! Another season as good as that would be unreal! Bakkali has been brilliant for me at De Graafschap, hopefully he will be the same for you, like the Jem Karacan signing as well.

Cheers guys, It was a fantastic season, I am hoping to be able to replicate it if not go one better this year all though I definitely think this will be tougher, I practically have a whole new 1st team. I feel like I haven't quite got the best out of Bakkali yet, how was you playing him?

I have been using him as a poacher in a 3-4-1-2 with a complete forward behind him. He is probably better on the wing but I play erg wide midfielders who also need to defend which he can't do haha, try him as a poacher!

First Eleven

After what has been an extremely busy couple of months, the pre-season is finally over and the new La Liga campaign is finally upon us. I have spent many a day and night on the constant look out for players to improve our squad, training hard with the team to improve fitness, team cohesion and working on our tactics, playing some pretty difficult friendly fixtures to prepare the team for what they will be up against again this year, I feel we are finally ready to take on our next challenge to improve on the fantastic 11th place in the league last season.

As I said, I have spent a lot of time with the lads on the training pitch and worked closely with my assistant and I feel I have recognised my first ‘starting’ eleven, although this is not concrete or set in stone, these will certainly be the guys to lead us out in our opening match of the new campaign away against Espanyol (injury permitted). So here we have it, the new look SD Eibar for the new season..

GK

Xabi Irureta (C)

View attachment 273584

Xabi was brilliant for us last season, I selected him as my captain when I took over and I have never once regretted my decision, his place in the squad is all but cemented for the next few years at least.

RB

Patric

View attachment 273583

Patric is a new addition to the team from the Barca B team, he shows some great attributes for a defender and I am sure with some first team football will develop nicely.

CB

Ivan Marcano

View attachment 273582

Another new addition to the team, Ivan has some great qualities for a CB and will provide some much needed strength to our defence. During transfer discussions he also made it very clear that he was looking forward to the opportunity to show his ability back in his homeland again

CB

Raul Navas

View attachment 273581

After impressing me last season on loan and with his contract up at the end of the season with Sociedad, it was a no brainer that I would offer him a deal to make the move permanent. I am hoping he and Ivan can form a great young and dynamic Spanish CB pairing.

LB
Bryan Oviedo

View attachment 273580

Another player that was with us last season on loan who impressed, Bryan is a fantastic LB who can both defend and attack and will continue to add some great width down the left hand side.

DM
Jon Errasti (VC)

View attachment 273579

Jon is my 'Mr Dependable', he played a really big part in our great performance in the league last year, although he does struggle against the likes of Barca and Real Madrid, he still did a really good job in front of the defence and I hope he will continue to do so, he may not be the most technically gifted player in the world but he is does the job.

CM
Leandro Bacuna

View attachment 273578

Once again we have a player that was on loan with us last season and did enough for me to bring him back. His goals from free kicks were vital and his bursts from midfield also help with our counter attacking football. He definitely will not be our penalty taker this season, 4 misses out of 4 attempts from the spot.. not good.

CM
Jem Karacan

View attachment 273577

The other CM positon is up for grabs, Jem does not have this one nailed down as of yet, especially as Javi (Lara) won our player of the season playing in the CM (AP) role last season, I would imagine that this will be a rotation between the two. Jem definitely impressed me in training and his appearances in our friendlies so for now his place in the first team is his to lose.

RW
Victor Moses

View attachment 273576

Victor comes in and vastly improves our attacking options, I am very excited to have someone with his pace and flair in the team. He and Bakkali at LW will be switching positions during the match, both are capable of playing off of either wing and I am sure will cause havoc.

LW
Zakaria Bakkali

View attachment 273575

Zak has the potential to be our signing and player of the season, I am really hoping he stays fit and performs as well as he trains. With great pace, dribbling, determination and agility, I am sure that he will terrorise defences, with him and Moses switching flanks, our wide attacking play is going to be very exciting.

ST

Gerard Moreno

View attachment 273574

Our lone striker position is another one that is not cemented down, Gerard will certainly be rotating with Sergi (Enrich) who was our top scorer last season. Gerard is a great addition to our attacking options, he showed some glimpses of being a great poacher in the friendlies against some of the world’s best defences. The healthy competition between him and Sergi will only be good for the team.

Cracking 1st season, Hope your 2nd is as succesfull if not better! Moses and Bakkali are brilliant signing's! How has Halilovic devloped for you? I bought him in my Rangers save and he couldnt make the team and I couldnt get any one to take him on loan either?

Cheers matey, it’s gonna be challenging but I recon we can out do last season’s achievements. Yeah I am very happy with them signings, I am happy with all of my transfers really but them 2 in particular. He hasn’t really developed too much.. he had a clause for 350k I think and Dinamo Zagreb made an offer last January and met the clause. I offered him a new deal and he decided to stay so I am hoping he will repay my faith in him, I will upload a SS tonight!
