Six Leagues Under - Bromley's Story
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
8th July, 2009
It was announced today that Mark Goldberg quit his position as Manager of local football team Bromley FC, after 3 years in charge. This revelation follows a dispute with the Chairman, Jerry Dolke, over the financial funding within the team.
Goldberg's agent today told waiting reporters that he wasn't willing to comment on the situation, although he will "miss Bromley FC, and wish them a great future". Jerry Dolke is allegedly looking to sell the club, and sources close to management are suggesting that this reason is why there was limited funding.
It is thought that a replacement will be set in place with haste, as this dispute has been building up over the past few months. In their previous season, Bromley finished in a secure mid-table position of 13th, as many people predicted.
Top candidates include Bromley's current Assistant Manager, Hayden Bird, alongside First-Team Coach, Lee Whittaker.
Jon Goodman has also been shown as an outside chance at the managerial position, although he is currently employed at Millwall FC as a Fitness Coach.

In a shocking turn of events, Bromley FC announced the surprise appointment of Samuel Thomas as new Manager, following the resignation of Mark Goldberg four days ago.
The 29 year old is a completely unknown figure in football beside a past history of playing for Sunday League sides, including River Cray, and Swanley Cardinals FC. In what is seen as a mutual decision, staff members have assured the new boss that they are more than happy to work under him, but will allow for termination of their contracts if they are seen as surplus to requirements.
Can Thomas take Bromley to promotion?
We were able to meet up with Thomas later that day for an intimate press conference, consisting of himself and three reporters.
"Your appointment is seen as a complete surprise to every one. Was this planned out from before Mark Goldberg resigned, or was it as much of a shock to you, as it was to us?"
"I was given a phone call from the Chairman a couple days after Goldberg resigned, and he asked me if I'd like to talk to the team and backroom staff to see if I like the club. After a look around at the facilities available, and the dedication that the entire club emitted, it was an easy decision."
"You're seen as someone with absolutely no managerial experience, and nothing more than a sunday league footballer. What do you have to say to these comments from supporters?"
"I think those comments are completely out of line, and I really don't appreciate them. Everyone has to start somewhere, and if I wasn't good enough to get past the sunday league stage then that was because of my abilities as a player. But as for the 'no managerial experience' comment, I'd like to gladly point out that I've been playing Football Manager for years now, so I should know what I'm doing. I mean, I took Barcelona to the Champions League three times in a row, so I'm sure that I can handle Bromley. But all jokes aside, whether I have the experience or not, it doesn't mean that I can't get the job done. Bromley are six leagues under, and my ambitions are to try and get them right to the top."
"You've been seen as a charismatic manager, making jokes and meeting the press. You've been highlighted as who seems willing to publicise life at Bromley. Will you be giving regular updates on the squad?"
"I joke around with people because it makes them feel more comfortable around me, and that's what I want, to build relations with the local community and media. I will talk to the press on certain points about the club, but too much exposure isn't always the best approach, and so I just want to get on with the job as well."
Whether Thomas can get the job done or not is now on the minds of fans, and with them expecting another safe mid-table finish, after the first month of competitive action in the Blue Square South, it will be obvious as to whether the appointment was a good decision or not.
