BENFICA SIGNS MILEVSKIY
IN A 11.5M DEAL
After a trip to Kyiv, Castro and Rui Costa managed to sign the top-class ucranian striker Artem Milevskiy for €11,5M. That was considered a bad signing by Castro, as Benfica´s strikers can handle their job, according to the commentators. When arriving Lisbon, Castro only said: "He will do a good job for us". This is the first winter market signing in Portugal, and we have just left the first transfer window. Now Benfica will face NAC Breda, in a game counting for the EL group stage.

Brilliant story mate. Portugal is a good place to manage. Cardoso is on fire in my game. I think he'll be amazing for you. You won't be disapointed with dentino either. Doing well for me. Top goalscorer with Vela ATM.

I love your sig.

And we finally have a Benfica story ;) Good luck and I'll definately be following this.

INTERVIEW WITH PEDRO CASTRO

Yesterday, Pedro Castro gave an interview to the tvi24 journalists of the programme "Mais Futebol" [= More Football]. He talked about his first days at Benfica, his football choices and his thoughts and wishes for the next season.

TVI- Good Night Pedro Castro, thank you for being here with us.
Castro- Good Night, it is my pleasure.
T- How did Rui Costa found you to this job, and why did he decided to sign you instead of other possible managers, such as Camacho and Giovanni?
C- I can only answer to the first question, as the only one who knows why Rui Costa chose me is Rui Costa himself. We met some years ago, in a supporters dinner. We were talking about Koeman's work, as he was the manager at that time, and then I said I had a level II training coach. We exchanged phone numbers, but not because of that. My life continued, during those 4 years I continued doing my job, which was writing newspaper articles about football and going to some TV programmes about it, and then in May, when Quique Flores was fired, Rui called me asking if I was available. And I said I was, but then the chairman LF Vieira chose Jesus to the job, and I respect that, as he had already given evidence of his abilities. But then we all know the story. He said he would accept an offer from Porto and then Vieira gave me a chance.
T- In your first press conference you said you would dismiss any players that didn't fit your tactic and team model, whoever thay were, and proved that selling Nuno Gomes, Mantorras and Carlos Martins. Now, you have built a new team. Do't you think that will create instability and will have consequences in the players' exhibitions?
C- I don't think it will, I know it will. But I never said I would win a trophy this season, and it is highly possible that we don't, even giving our best in every game. However, in the next season and if we don't win anything until then, I resign. Benfica is coming from many seasons of constant managerial changes, and needs stability. LF Vieira can either give me the time I need and take the profits in the future or fire me for saying this and continue without winning anything for the next years. This squad is capable of winning an European title in the next 4 years, but only if there aren't changes in the management, as any other coach may think they won't and dismiss many players who might be world-class in some time.
T- You are a known Benfica associate, with more than 25 years being a member. What do you think about your rivals, Sporting and Porto?
C- Sporting is a formation team, and gave birth to players we all know, such as Ronaldo, Nani, Figo or even Simao Sabrosa. However, they have some inferiority complexes. They are the team with less national titles (18), and they don't have any European Champions Cup in their museum. In the last season, in the first time they passed through the UCL group stage since 2002, they took 12-1 by Bayern. And I say they have those complexes as they are always criticising Benfica and Porto, getting excuses for our success. And that's why I can't stand with them. The team and staff have all the respect they deserve but I won't lie and say I like Sporting more than Porto, which is a winning team, has always showed that and, besides their refereeing issues we all know, they have had the best team in the past few years, and shown good deals and achievements.
T- Which team do you most admire in the world?
C- That is easy. Benfica
T- And why?
C- We look to the club's history and see a golden past, a silver present, and I'm working on a platinum future. Besides, it's the team with the best supporters in the world, and that gives us strenght and motivation playing at Estadio da Luz. And, last but not the least, the team has an worldwide reputation, with supporters in America, Asia, Africa and Oceania... We are a portuguese club but we belong to the world. Even better: We are the world.
T- Thank you Pedro, that's all for today, we hope to see you again.
C- Again, it was my pleasure. You will.
T- Thank you. And that was all for tonight with Pedro Castro. We're back tomorrow with our commentators and analysts. See ya!

VIRUS BREAK

Hey there, howdy followers:

My computer suffered a massive virus attack, but I managed to save the game to a USB Drive,so I won't be able of updating the story for 1 week. I promise this isn't an excuse and the beggining of the end of the story, as it is doing well. As soon as I return and re-organize the laptop I will immediatly update September and possibly October.

I hope you continue following :)

Pedro Castro

Play Ramires as a Box-to-Box midfielder and you'll have a good player to bank on when you need those goals from the midfield.

Good stuff so far, keep it up.

Awesome idea! I will flow my favorite team!

EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B

Benfica 2-0 NAC Breda
Marquinhos 14'
Neves 89'
Kwakman s/o 90+1'

We performed well tonight, with Thiago Neves and Marquinhos scoring their first goals in European competitions, and I hope those are the first of many. The top objective is achieving the semi-finals, but we will fight in order to raise the cup in Hamburg. However, everyone must be aware that our group is one of the thoughest, especially Lille, that battered Levski 5-0 tonight, and that we must be lucky in the draws.

LIGA SAGRES

U. Leiria 1-0 Benfica
Carlao pen 54'

We did very well today, and I can't blame the team for nothing. They did their best, and couldn't have done better. We dominated them, did four times their attacks, and clearly deserved the win. Football is not always a fair sport, and this game is a confirmation to that. Still, this is our first defeat in the season, after 5 games, which is acceptable, but I don't want to repeat this feeling. We have to do a good figure in the championship, and can't afford much more defeats. Not only because of the table, but also because I hate losing.

Benfica 2-0 Leixoes
Kardec 27'
Airton 86'

As I said when I took charge, the priority is Europa League. And that's why I decided to give some players a shot. I'm satisfied with this result, as it shows how the game went, what didn't happen last week. Thursday we will face a strong Levski side which we already defeated in pre-season, but it might be considered a crime saying that a friendly match as a group stage game for the second biggest club competition in the world

Player of the Month

phpthumb1.jpg

Cesar Peixoto

Cesar done really well this month. Even with Garrido in his best and showing he can handle the job, he always gives us really good exhibitions and giving the team certainty in the left side, where he gives the best assistance possible to Di Maria.

OCTOBER UPDATE

EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B

Levski 1-3 Benfica
Cardozo pen 1'
Saviola 3'
Petev 47'
Peixoto pen 75'
David Luiz s/o 22'

We performed well tonight, and clearly overcame Levski. Our european campaign is being brilliant, and we will try to keep it that way. Even scoring two goals by penalties, no one can say we didn't deserve the victory. I think David Luiz red card was a bit exagerate, but the referee had to hold the game, which wasn't a good game to see, with Levski players taking the game to seriously, and making some unreasonable faults.

LIGA SAGRES

P. Ferreira 1-1 Benfica
Saviola 17'
Anunciacao 69'
David Luiz s/o 67'

We were unlucky today. Once again we dominated, had most of the opportunities and the second time they attacked they scored, and only beacause we were weakened in the back due to David Luiz red card, a thing which is getting quite frequent, and I hope he doesn't repeat it... But the problem in the back is one which I will deal with in the winter market. We will only brig in two new players. One of them you already know, Artem, and the other will be either a defender or a keeper, we will see.

FRIENDLY

Benfica 3-1 1º Agosto
Francisco 39'
Weldon 46'
Menezes 54'
Saviola 73'
Dentinho m/p 80'

It was a good friendly to give some minutes to some less used players. However, I have to say that Dentinho momentum is really disappointing, and I also want to say that he'd better start playing the best he can so that he can grant a place in this squad. Thiago Neves and Marquinhos are doing really welll, and his place in the 11 is clearly at risk.

PORTUGUESE CUP

Benfica 1-0 Feirense
Airton 60'

We performed well, but I'm getting quite annoyed with our fails in the front of the goal. For the 4th time this season, we dominated the game and couldn't get a bigger advantage, which is a problem I hope Milevskiy to fix.

EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B

Lille 1-2 Benfica
Farnerud 37'
Saviola 47' 54'

I'm really happy with this result and respective exhibition, as it leaves us 3 points away of the first place at our group. This was also the thoughest game we had in the group stage, and managed to get past a really strong team, which is obviously one of the biggest candidates to the Hamburg Final victory. We were sleeping until Farnerud goal, and in the 2nd half we clearly played better, and Lille has to be happy with this defeat, as it could become a nightmare to them.

LIGA SAGRES

Benfica 3-0 Nacional
Marquinhos pen 12'
Bracalli OG 56'
Saviola 76'

Our performance today was really good, Nacional isn't an easy team at all but we managed to deal with their strong midfielders and deadly strikers. They had not a chance with our defenders, and I'm glad we won this difficult game before another even tougher against Portugal 4th team, Braga.

Braga 0-3 Benfica
Neves 9'
Saviola 16'
Aimar 25'

Wow, I wasn't expecting this... We have a stronger squad and all, but I wasn't certainly expecting a massive win like this. We did our best performance, clearly. And, by the way, Neves has fully granted a place in the 11. Now Dentinho and Marquinhos have to show me I am wrong... But I also have to admit that Marquinhos is close to that than Dentinho, who is really giving me several headaches, as he was my most expensive signing.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
benfica+saviola+el+conejo+slb.jpg

Javier Saviola

Saviola did fantastic this month, and many of our goals were only possible due to his technique and skills. He also scored many important goals this month, especially the two goals which gave us the victory against Lille.

Great result against Braga. keep it up castro

Great story mate and your sig is quite eye catching ;)

BENFICA SIGNS OCHOA

guillermo_ochoa_avatar.jpg

After a trip to Mexico City, which was tought to be just in holidays, Pedro Castro and Rui Costa, coach and director of Benfica, respectively, signed the young promising goalkeeper Francisco Guillermo Ochoa in a 8,5M € transfer to Estadio da Luz. This is the 2nd winter transfer, after Milevskiy move to Lisbon. When arriving at Lisbon, in the airport, Castro only said:

Ochoa is the best goalkeeper playing in America and is in the top 5 of the most promising in the world. Today we granted a top goalkeeper who can bring Enyeama some competitiveness, and probably deserve the number 1. I'm really happy with this signing, as I've been looking forward to buy Ochoa since I started my career.
