August 2010 Review
Month of mixed fortunes for Zola
Npower League 1
Colchester 1-1 Southampton

This was my first league game in charge and it was a disappointing result in all fairness. We took the lead early on from a stunning Lambert shot but late on Chaplow gave the ball away cheaply and Mooney made us pay to earn a point for either side.

Southend 1-5 Southampton

A quality performance from a make shift side today. Lambert scored early but Southend level whilst Rickie had to go off injured for Prado. Prado came on and scored 2 and new signing John scores his first goal for the club as we progress to the next round.

My first home game in charge and fortunately it ended in a win. We conceded early on but levelled on the stoke of half time. We then had to play most of the second half with 10 men as N’Guessan got injured and we had no subs but new signing Cherfa rose from a corner to power in his first goal with his head

A good game in all fairness. It was very tight but we got off to a flyer through Dany but Lambert missed a pen. They then scored 2 goals in 14 minutes but Euell drew level. Spence hit the bar late on for us but we had to settle for the draw.

Not a bad performance in all fairness to my team as we was against vastly superior opposition in the form of Premier League’s Stoke. We was 2-0 down at half time but we was by far the better team in the second half.

I am pleased with this result as we got another 3 points today against Brentford. Alex Chamberlein set up the goal for Puncheon who scored his first of the season. We dominated all game but couldn’t convert chances into goals but we got the 3 points and thats what matters.

Torquay 0-2 Southampton

A good result in the cup. We travelled to the South west of England to play Torquay at Plainmoor and we won 2-0. Martin scored a header and Kandol scored on his debut.

I am delighted with this victory after missing a penalty so early in the match. Lambert scored early on but i thought it was going to end in a draw when Todd Scored. However super sub Collins John scored 3 minutes into extra time for the 3 points.
If Kandol didn’t get sent off so early then i would be highly disappointed but we had to play 74 minutes with 1 striker so i can’t complain with this score. We drop down the table slightly but we will fight on and hopefully continue good form.
