GIANLUIGI BUFFON SIGNS FOR ARSENAL.
Italian goalkeeping legend has left Turin this morning and headed for London to join Arsenal.
Buffon signs for little under £1 million with his wages thought to be in the region of £110k per week.
Buffon went on to make over 600 appearances for which were split between his first club, Parma and Juventus. Buffon also went on to make over 150 international appearances.
Buffon joined Italian side Parma in their youth set aged just 13. He progressed through the ranks and eventually made his debut aged just 17 in Serie A. He then went on to make 7 more appearances in his first season and helped the club to a 6th place finish in the league.
He showed so much promise in those 8 appearances that the following season he was made number 1 and helped the club to a runners up spot in Serie A. A further 5th place finished the following season before he won his first silverware, the Eufa Cup, he also went on to win the 'Goalkeeper of the year award' in Italy that season.
After standing out at Parma Italian rivals, Juventus came calling in 2001. A £31.6 million offer was accepted by Parma.
Buffon then tasted unrivaled success at Juventus winning Serie A 7 times and the Italian Super Cup.
He also went on to win the world cup with Italy in 2006.
Buffon now ends a 16 year stint at the Italian giants to join Steven Gerrard at Arsenal where he will fight with wojciech szczesny for the number 1 shirt.
The signing has been met delirium from some fans and doubt from others. Some fans criticism is that the 39 year old is ageing and well past his best, others just look at his medal cabinet.
