2017/18 - Marseille

A pre-season target of a top 3 finish in Ligue 1 and a trophy (any trophy to keep up my record of winning a trophy every season) was boosted by some promising new regen signings, six in total aged between 18-22. This brought down the average age of our squad somewhat and in some cases made us stronger. We were hard to beat but initially found wins hard to come by too, lots of draw saw us 14th in October and i started fearing for my job, OM were 13th a year ago when the last manager lost his job! Thankfully the close nature of the French league tends to exaggerate a couple of bad results, three wins later we were 5th!! We were never even close to being in the title hunt but from the turn of the year it seemed likely to be a straight fight between us and and Toulouse for 2nd/3rd place. In the cups we did well, perhaps too well in hindsight because the fixture congestion at the end of the season was ridiculous (see picture below, note how many games and days between them from 25th April to the seasons end!). We reached the semi final of both domestic cups and the final of the Europa League, losing to Chelsea 4-3. 2nd place in Ligue 1 was secured with a couple of games to spare along with the all important champions league qualification. Trophyless? Not quite, we won the season opener French Super Cup (Champions Trophy) against PSG on pens after a 2-2 draw.

Targets for the new season: Win the champions league!!! Its unlikely to happen but obviously its the name of the challenge. Also i would love to knock PSG of their perch, it wont be easy though as they have averaged 90pts for the last four seasons. Failing either of these this season, i would like to improve the squad so the targets can be achieved in the next 2-3 years.

UPDATE:

Lost in the final on penalties!

My team was terrible throughout the game never looking like winning at any point we ended up with about 5 clear cut chances but Juaregi and Insua's finishing was off. REAL finished both of their of their opportunities and probably deserved to win just based on how uninterested in the game my team was. The disappointing thing was that REAL gave the ball away a lot and I think if my team had been even average on the day we would have beat them easily.

Apart from losing the final I have actually enjoyed this season, I think I've built a decent young team and with the players getting more experience and having been trained to play in a way that suits the team I think I've got a really good chance of winning it next year.

I did find the league season pretty tedious with JUVE winning it easily, we won the Italian Cup after putting a reserve side out (with my first choice GK) in the final against Napoli.

Roma finished 11th
INTER finished 12th

CL winners in my game so far are..

MAN
UTD
, Man City, Tottenham, LIVERPOOL, Man City, JUVENTUS, MAN UTD, LIVERPOOL, REAL MADRID,
(teams in bold have won it in real life)

I've won it twice so far and have taken part in 4 finals.

Disappointing final but I guess getting there at least shows the potential of the team.

I am really starting to hate Bayern Munich.

I left Man Utd in the summer with the prospect of taking over from Jupp Heynckes who was retiring, but after Munich said they were flattered went in another direction. So still unemployed come Feb the job becomes available, and again I apply and they are flattered, but instead the hire Guus Hiddink.

So that proved frustrating and on top of that due to my decision to leave United and not getting the Munich job, means I have wasted an entire season sat unemployed.

Current Career:

Man Utd - 2012-13

1 Capital One Cup, 1 Premier League, 1 Champions League

Winning Champions League - 5 Points

Unemployed - 2013-14

I hope to manage every club well i hope so ive been getting board of fm so i hope this challenge well keep me playing and all so a long term game so fingers crossed Mr Champions League will guide bayern to the first champions league final

Whatever your heart desires

gone with normall game mode because you can only select 3 nations so kinda sucks but no biggie just past the group stage with bayern found it pretty easy doing well in the league all so dispite dortmund giving us a fight for the tittle as they should do any here the final group stage.

2018/19 - Marseille

What.a.season! Going into the season i was quietly confident we could challenge on all fronts (due to not losing to PSG last season, making the final of the Europa league and PSG making the champions league semi's - if we can beat PSG then we can beat most teams, right?) We only brought in 2 new faces, one a backup keeper and the other a marquee striker (if it wasnt enough to challenge i could always strengthen in January, right?) At the halfway stage we had won 13, drawn 5, lost 1 in Ligue 1 and were neck and neck with PSG and through to the knockout stages of the champions league. The group stage saw us win 5 and draw one, with Porto, R.Madrid and Sparta prague the opponents, Madrid away was the draw - we should have lost as they battered us. It earned us a tie with Chelsea (the team who narrowly beat my knackered team in the Europa league final last season). Stronger this season we are and fitter on the day, they were no match as we eased through to the qtrs. There we faced another opponent from last seasons Europa league, Dortmund. 2 narrow victories were stark contrast to last seasons high scoring draws. Bayern in the semis, the first time all season we entered a game thinking we wouldnt win, we did though 2-0 at home but it was close. In germany they beat us 3-2 and they could've had 5 or 6! Man United awaited in the final, i was confident of a result because United arent champions of England (Spurs are) and were 4th in the league this time around. We got lucky, a 5th minute penalty in our favour and an own goal put us 2-1 up before Rooney got sent off. But the ten men equalised late on to force extra time, where our legs finally told with a 113th minute winner! As for Ligue 1, we won 18 out of 19 in the second half of the season. Won the French super cup and the French league cup. The French cup eluded us.

So managed to finish in 2nd taking automatic promotion, really glad as thought at one stage there was alot of speculation about me getting the sack.

Gael Kakuta was a bargain signing and destroyed the Championship, really need to sort out the defence as we conceded far to much, and we wont be scoring so many goals in the Premiership.

Career so far:

Man Utd - 2012-13:

1 Capital One Cup, 1 Premier League, 1 Champions League

Unemployed 2013-14:

Nottm Forest 2014-15:

2nd in Championship

I am going to restart this challenge due to becoming frustrated with the game-play in classic mode, in which I am currently playing, so I plan to restart on the standard game-play so please wipe off my achievements with Man Utd.

I've registered with the forum purely to give this a go. Fantastic idea.

coming to the end of the first season no over jobs are free should i stay on with bayern
