Strikers are just brain dead this year?

Heh, my player who was the best striker and was best as false nine and used as false nine I ended loaning out to save his wages and I'm trying to sell him because he's the one striker who's not performing. It seemed at first, but then he stopped and has not picked up in more than a season.

I'm quite new to FM games in general but I picked 14 up and noticed that my striker barely scores for top teams in my saves and the defenders are the top scorers and this is with loads of different tactics too.

If I run the same tactics with teams even from the Premiership but not so well built as Chelsea for example then the strikers will score - quite confusing to me.
