Well, first game was against Chelsea at home, lost 4-1. I don't think it was the tactics fault, tbh. Schneiderlin, got 4.6 match rating lol. Clyne and Lovren had 5.7 ratings. Next game up is Manchester United.
Not exactly a plug and play tactic but if it doesn't work I'll suggest using some other. This thread was meant to start a discussion about more efficient tactic style of counter attacking, which doesn't seem too popular here. Everyone wants to be Barcelona.

I know it isn't a good tactic, that's why I never shared it in the first place. It just seems to work for me, probably because of in-game changes and players.Yeah, not saying it's a bad tactic. It just didn't work out for me![]()
Could you link me to it?What an amazing thread! I miss the FM 10 and 11 where I was very successful using this kind of approach. I'm on 13 yet due to some annoying games in 14. But I'm thinking on return to 14 to experiment this. Also, on the SI Forum, there's a quite good thread debating on this subject too. It would worth to take a look on that I guess.
I need to ask a couple of question:
1- What training do you use? I ask this because I get a sort of contradictory results. This is an approach based on keeping the shape so, in theory, it would work with defending positioning. When I use this, I tend to not concede but my attacking phase is a bit poor. When I use attacking movement, the defending part of my team is really poor. On general training, I always use team cohesion or balanced;
2- What about OI's? I'm one of those managers that believe this take a vital role on the game, to nullify opponents dangers. However, every time I use this seems to ruin my system and kinda backfires it. I might not use it in the future, using instead the PI or changing the roles;
Yeah, It's perfect for winning 1-0, grinding out results, use Stand off opponents to retain better shape when leading.Counter Attack 101?
Here it is. You need to register if you don't have an account I guess.
That's a great run of results, specially for a club like WBA. Without a very good tactic, in those clubs you really need to react and micro manage accordingly to the opposition strengths and your weaknesses, so it's even rewarding. Keep up the good work.
I'm in 13 for now, trying to make this work with Arsenal (with the team without Ozil). They seem perfect for this. Currently winning at OT 1-0. Perfect ahah
I tend to add the instruction to Fullbacks and CMs "Close down More" to continue pressing, which would be useful since you focus on more possession oriented approach.I use a very similar tactic except on very fluid instead of very rigid and with no player instructions other than for the GK. With lower tempo and a more possession orientated approach if the counter isn't on as the team will automatically goes to high tempo if a counter is on. It's working very well for me.
Thanks to this thread I have updated my tactic so that both CM are on support (previously 1 support and 1 attack), as well as setting one of the Cm to B2B role. This has improved my tactic as it has allowed me to keep sustained pressure on the opponents as well as improving defensive stability.
Cheers for the interesting discussion!
I'd say Chelsea at home, attacking (control mentality) 4-3-3, I rarely play counter at home.I'm trying to make this work with Liverpool. I don't have the patience to work on my tactic. My next games will be Chelsea at home, Spurs at WHL, Newcastle at Anfield (COC) and Man U. at Anfield. Big games coming up. How would you set up in these games?
I'm thinking in set one CB to cover (probably Skrtel), having a BWM on to press relentlessly and probably a DLP or AP to launch the counters, as I won't play with an AMC. Probably direct passing with pass into space, etc.
How are you get one with WBA in these kind of games?
