TEAM THREAD: Playing Man Utd - A Tactical Discussion Thread

Playing with a fairly standard Man Utd team (only signed a few youth players). Lining up with a 4-4-2, playing deep and slow, what should my width be? Cheers

What did you set his wide play to? He doesn't run channels so it should be set to normal, right?

Sorry for the late reply, haven't had a computer for nearly a week.

Train him to 'break the offside trap' and to 'place shots into corner of the net' and he becomes a beast. Give him low creativity and full attacking mentality and he just won't stop scoring.

Ah ok thanks, I've already trained him to place shots so I'll get him breaking the offside trap now. Any idea on my above post about width?

What do people think of Rooneys new role ? and what would it be on FM? because I just this article Rooney reinvigorated in his new role | The football site for big interviews, expert analysis from world class writers and Life sounds like Rooney is being used as a pure no. 10

I love the new role, really brings out the best in him and the rest of the team. As for using it in FM - I've currently got him as a Deep Lying Forward with an Attack Duty and some advanced options.

High creativity, mixed passing range, runs at opponents often, and roams from position. He's constantly getting 30 goals a season and 20+ assists a season for me :)

Play fast football with high width, will kill the opponents due to Valencia, Nani, Rooney and Hernandez's pace.

I'd go with wide mate.

For Man utd would it be better to play more disciplined or with with more creative freedom?

I used that tic tac magic tactic on the si forums and it worked very well. Only lost 3 games in the league all season and drew 1. Won the league by about 18 points and trashed arsenal 8-0 at home. Won all 3 domestic trophies although went out to barca in CL quarters. I've won every single home game except for a 1-0 defeat to barca although I had 2 CCC.

Start of the 2nd season I lost away to reading and stoke within my first 3 games but I had changed my match prep to team blend to try it out then just gave it back to my assistant and have gone on a run again.

Home and Away one. Only really use the away one against the big teams. U need to change the D line, time wasting and tempo according though. There's instructions on it in that thread.

8.5m for Danny Welbeck Deal or no Deal if deal any good english replacments

Man City nick him I was thinking Chamberlain but is good enough for prem?

yeah i find that to. chamberlain turns into quality player mate city bought him in old save but 3 seas later was transfer listed for 7.5m kept nani out of side and was averagin between 7 -7.5 a game loads assists and few goals would be good buy

Why not 3-5-2. In my 1st season am undefeated for 12 games, new record first season...maybe not ideal but using these sure to win formula's seems lackluster at best.

3-5-2 formation I will be using next season got 2 young CB's that I will be taking a gamble on next season. How do you set it yours up? usually I set mine up with 2 Wingbacks 2 Centre Mids and AMC.

Quick question anyone give me some advice on tweaking player's instructions to get more out of them?

I am playing a high defensive line with the offside trap on. My two full backs are on support duty, whilst my centre backs have a defend duty ( central defender and ball playing defender). How would you advise i use tight marking here? Should the full backs have tight marking and the cb's without, or should they all not have tight marking? please help if you can :)

thanks

Struggling to get Hernandez to score, playing him as a poacher off rooney as deep fwd, gave him some minor tweaks run with ball rarely etc but still nothing, rooney has 20 goals in 18 games for me but cant get little pea to crack, perhaps its still a time for him to fit in , im in my first season. Apreciate any tips for a poacher/treq settings for Hernandez.

In anyone's opinion would you say that man utd:

1.play a short, default or direct style or football?
2. Press more, default or Stand off more?

In my third season at Man Utd now. Got rid of Carrick, anderson, gibson etc + giggs and scholes retired (thats not all of them but thats all i can remember)
Vincent Enyeama is a top replacement for Van Der Sar. I also signed Edin Dzeko, Ivan Rakitic, Marouenne Fellani, and Aaron Martin (very good hot prospect)
Playing Dzeko as an advanced forward in 4-2-4 alongside Hernandez as a Poacher and Rooney in AML is amazing, or Dzeko/Hernandez as a poacher in 4-5-1 works pretty well.
Rakitic works best as adv. playmaker in attack, scores tonnes of goals from long range
