Hello everyone,
History
Like most of you in this part of the forum, I have always been fascinated by the tactics that pop-up; what kind of beautiful things people are able to create with what is available and how much time and effort people put into these tactics.
I have been playing FM since 2009 and have invested more and more time into the tactical aspect of the game either by making my own, and tweaking it or using one of the great tactics made here and be amazed by the results.
Introduction
This year, however, most tactics have not given me the results that I am used to. This could be because the game has changed quite a bit, or because we are not searching in the right way. I know that there is already a post here with people complaining that most of the tactics here are shared (at least initially) with bug clubs/few seasons into the game etc.
I have also not seen any new tactic testing posts pop-up and I am going to try to combine both points to come up with my new way of testing tactics. Obviously I am not going to say that this is the best way to test a tactic, or it might not be a good way to test a tactic at all. But from what I have noticed is that this match seems to be a perfect match to "stress test" tactics. I have tried almost all tactics on here, without any result. I have also worked together with guzzla (the creator of the previously acclaimed "Nxt" tactics) and were almost always able to "break" his new tactics/tweaks with this match that seemed to work for others.
Current state
Using nxt5, nxt6 and nxt7 on the previous patch (15.1.4), I won the league with ADO Den Haag (Dutch eredivisie) in my first year with almost no transfers (at least not for money) and where my media prediction was 11th. The next year started of amazing with 6 wins in 6 games (scoring 19 goals, 6 against). However, right before my first champions league game (first ever champions league game for ADO Den Haag), we got the new patch and that is where the problems started. It is an away game against AS Roma, which are obviously much stronger, but I feel that there should be one tactic out there that are able to beat them. That is why this match will be used to try to find that one tactic.
Way of testing
To test tactics I will replay the match 3 times (for the record as ADO Den Haag), playing it in the way that I would normally do: picking my own OI, picking the players, watching the game/making substitutions etc. I will therefore not simulate the game, let my assistant pick, go on vacation or anything like that. I will play the games like I would normally play them. For each match the tactic gets points based on the match outcome (win, draw, loss), goals scored/goals conceded and "match stats dominance" or in other words; more shots on goal, possession, ccc's etc. Which results in the following scoring system:
Win = +6, draw = +2, loss = -2
Goals scored = 2 x number of goals, goals conceded = -1 (for each goal)
If dominant stats wise = +2 points
Examples
Winning the match 0-5 = 6 + 10 (because 2 x 5) + 2 = 18 points (saying it was a dominant win)
Winning the match 4-5 = 6 + 10 (because 2 x 5) - 4 = 12 points (saying its not a dominant win)
Winning the match 2-3 = 6 + 6 (because 2 x 3) - 2 = 10 points (sayings its not a dominant win)
Drawing 1-1 = 2 + 2 (because 2 x 1) - 1 = 3 points
Drawing 2-2 = 2 + 4 (because 2 x 2) - 2 = 4 points
Drawing 3-3 = 2 + 6 (because 2 x 3) - 3 = 5 points, however dominant but a draw would be 7 points
Losing 3-2 = -2 + 4 ( because 2 x 2) - 3 = -1 points
Losing 2-1 = -2 + 2 (because 2 x 1) - 2 = -2 points
Losing 3-1 = -2 + 2 (because 2 x1) - 3 = -3 points, however dominant but a loss would be -1 points.
Table
Below (in the second post) you can find the table of the tactics that were tested. Besides the results of the 3 matches you can also find the total number of points, average number of points, lowest number and highest number of points. The tactics will be positioned based on their total number of points
Feel free to suggest tactics for me to test (or your own tactics), but make sure you give a clear link for them (either to download or the forum thread)!
Disclaimer
As stated above, I am not saying this is a good way or the best way to test tactics. I also know that there are a lot of other factors that play a role resulting in a certain result. Therefore the results of these tests do not mean that the tactic will work for you/that it is indeed the best tactic. But it might give you an indication for something that you can then test on your own.
