Arsenal's Mata bid was rejected. No surprise there. Something feeble probably...

I also don't see how he would be the only one to know of this "clause". Talking out of his ****.

He's not - Sid Lowe said the same thing today and y'day. Arsenal still favourites...

If it was the 17m that was being bandied around then i'm not surprised in the slightest

Apparently it was £17.5 and that was Valencia's original asking price before we passed the final date of his buy-out clause in his contract.

I think basically, considering everyone has a different story, the story is: No one knows what his contract entails.

But everyone is in agreement that Arsenal are favourites and are keen...

The clause was for 25M Euro, not sure why people keep getting this wrong, this has been the figure since day one. That clause has now expired, and Valencia will make any club pay through the nose (Spurs met this but Mata rejected it immediately) Not sure why Wenger dallied but it will now cost him

Does anyone know what time Jack is having the X-Ray on his ankle?

Said on twitter he had already had it.Guess we'll find out how it went at some stage today.

JackWilshere Jack Wilshere

People asking if i have had my scan...i have but don't get the results till later....trust me you will be the first to find out! :)

My Mistake.

If we are supposed to be finishing 5th who will be the top 4 because if Liverpool are in that top 4 its a joke. I don't think Liverpool will make top 5 tbh, IMO Villa will get 5th ahead of Spurs and Liverpool.

At the moment, 5th wouldn't be a surprise. The only consolation is Liverpool's defence is weak and I don't think Spurs are consistent enough to push all the way.

Ah, you know the season is near when the Guardian posts it annual Arsenal will finish fifth preview. Roll on the real football.

XD

5th is a realistic prediction at the moment, but then again so is fourth and third, you can never tell with Arsenal.

What annoys me is that this pessimism among fans - whether it be on twitter, forums or booing at a ******* friendly game when they'd hardly be dancing on the streets if we won - does no one any favours at all. We struggled enough with our home form last season and that (along with annual collapse) was the main reason we didn't win anything. We struggled at home to Leeds and ******* Huddersfield. If the fans boo at home, what are the players (what is CESC) going to think? Heads go down, performances get worse, and the fans turn on the manager once again.

We've not had a great pre-season, and we need to get a positive start to a tricky few fixtures in August/September but there's major pessimism everywhere now. I can understand why some people think we won't finish in the Top 4 (Liverpool for e.g. are deemed to have made significant strides this summer despite a dreadful pre-season) and that's fine, but I wish people would get some perspective and realise that we've been so close so many times and - as much as I hate to say it - we have strengthened this summer.

OK, we could lose Cesc and that would be a big blow but we didn't have Ramsey and Vermaelen last season (not that they're 'like a new signing', but will make some difference and have had good pre-seasons individually) and we've added Gervinho, who looks a superb player from what I've seen so far. But Wenger has lost big players before - Flamini, Hleb, Henry, Vieira were all thought to be costly departures - and every time he's kept us in the top 4, and more than that, he's kept us fighting on as many fronts as possible.

Have some god-**** faith, people!

That's more like it!!

And this is spot-on.

I would be very surprised to see Arsenal finishing outside top 4. There are few weaknesses, but which team haven't got any? IMO Liverpool wont be finishing above Arsenal..

We should get 4th worst case scenario IMO.

- We finally have a proper keeper in Szczesny as opposed to Almunia. And we have a adequate back-up in Fabianski.
- Will have Vermaelen back which adds alot to our defence as well as leadership. Also, Koscielny won't be brand spanking new so will hopefully be able to re-find the form he and Djourou had January-February.
- Got rid of Denilson meaning we have a better back-up to Song in Frimpong in that he actually is a defensive minded mid who knows how to tackle and press the player on the ball.
- Ramsey back is a big one, if Fabregas struggles with injuries (or leaves) we have a top quality replacement who has all the tools to play in the 'Cesc role' rather than Rosicky (who didn't look good at all last season, showed some promise in pre-season though) or Nasri (isn't the right type of player to play in the middle, lack or tracking back, poor range of passing, etc).
- Gervinho could be an absolute brilliant buy if he can play like he has in pre-season, seems to do alot of damage on the left wing whether it's cutting in and scoring or running the flanks and putting the ball into the danger zones.
- Fingers crossed we have a healthy van Persie all season so he can finally show what he can do over a whole season and will hopefully continue the form from the end of last season. And with Chamakh hopefully not having to lead the line for the first 3-4 months he won't fatigue out and can put up good numbers.

If all goes well we should be right in the thick of the title challenge, but the same can be said for about 6 teams.
