Well that's sort of the point - Nasri's contract has been in the pipe-line since December and now his agent's getting involved and they're pushing for more money. At the time, he deserved it - now, less so. At the time, Rooney deserved it, when he actually signed it - he didn't. There was no genuine desire to join City from Rooney, as there may well be no genuine desire to join Utd for Nasri. Just using him as an example - fans will forgive and forget if Nasri signs and gets back to his best as they have done with Rooney.

His comments re United are odd, since united wont make any formal approach unless contract talks stall, and even they may not move at all

You hope so,Nasri said he has to see if United offer is real,Rooney never ever mentioned other clubs...

Which is what he's saying - he doesn't know whether there's genuine interest so he can't really comment. He doesn't say (as people seem to have automatically added) "if there is genuine interest, it will be hard to say no" or something similar.

I agree with you - don't think he's really doing anything wrong and he's not the only one to ever do it. Don't get the mass criticism tbh since if he signs, all will be forgiven in an instant.

The Rooney -> City rumours must have come from somewhere. It may have been his agent (as this probably is through him) but there certainly seemed to be a possibility of him leaving. He may well have just used that as a threat though in which case he's still similar to Nasri which is my point.

Stretford started making a lot of noise, Rooney never said anything about going to city. A lot of noise from the blue side too about flexing their muscles and getting one over united

Usually or almost everytime we offer new we wont offer anyone contracts in the mid season. It will be always done in the close season.
Rooney said he wont join City even before signing Contract.

And lastly he signed the contract that was offered. I mean initially he was offered 160 or 180K one, after holding us to ransom he signed the same contract. Media just blew it saying more than 200k.

What Nasri and his agent is doing is what every modern day player does. When they have only one ot two years left in the contract they use other club's name to getter better deal. Its way too common now a days.

I want to be clear - I'm not using Rooney as an example because I think he is special and he's worse than Nasri. Quite the opposite - I'm trying to make the point that although it's not nice, it's part of football nowadays. Agents and players have too much power; we can't really blame Nasri for doing what pretty much every other player on the planet would and do, do. I just think it's silly for Arsenal fans to launch some scathing attack on him - how they don't want him at the club if he's not going to lie and say he's 100% staying and there's no doubt in his mind when if he signs and gets back to his best, all will be forgiven and they'll wonder what they were complaining about.

It's the same with Rooney - he and his agent held Utd to ransom and they got a bumper deal (it had already been arranged, but it was around 40k more than originally offered according to Mike. and was in Jan rather than the end of the season as per, according to you) and now he's loved by Utd fans again.

Like Nasri's saying - there's no point commenting on speculation re Utd when there isn't even a concrete offer or genuine interest atm.

Yeah, more or less thats what i said Joss. And regarding this,

Arranged in Jan but was offered in close season and thats how we do most of the time. We dont renew contracts in the mid season. I maybe wrong about the time contract was offered though..

And also this news is getting published in all sites. Started off with Evra's interview/text isn't it ;)

I think I'm just trying to be cautious nowadays - some people take offence easily and you and Mike. were both defending/explaining the Rooney situation so I'm trying to be careful not to make it sound like I think Rooney is some super-villain.

Re: the January offer; surely the short-term trigger of that was the noises being made by his agent and City? It may have already been arranged 6 months previous but the eventual wage he got (~ 180k) and the fact he signed it in January surely was at least partly down to the rumours etc.

Nasri is no different and I while I understand the frustration of fans at him not committing, I'd rather he was honest like this then lie and leave a week later and I still think that like Rooney, all will be forgiven when he's back to his best.

Nasri is just looking to milk us for as much money as possible. I'm not worried about him leaving.

Apparently Barca are going to 'tempt' us with 40 million + Thiago for Cesc. No thanks.

I'd consider that offer. Then offer Cesc wage on Nasri with Thiago getting Nasri's old wages. Easy. Then in 2-4 years time Barca come back to get Thiago and we milk out of them 20-40m.

No way will Thiago be offered to us. They think he's better than Cesc for a start, and his dad said yesterday he's 100% staying.

He signed contract in September i think. Not Jan. Anyways we can drop Rooney here as all players are same. When the ball is in their court, they like to get as much as possible.

Yeah, good thing is he is honest with the situation. We all are fickle though, just a moment of 2 of brilliance and all will be forgotten..

It begs the question why they're so intent on getting Cesc if they believe they have one in their midst already who is better.

Simple. Barca fans overrate their youngsters but the management knows he is not better than Cesc or going to replace Xavi anytime soon..

Arrogance? They seem to think they have some divine right to sign whoever they want; regardless of where he'll fit in or the willingness of the selling club. They realise they've let a brilliant player slip through their hands and they want him back - hence all the comments about "Barca DNA" and "he deserves to play here", "he wants to come, we want him to come, Arsenal are being selfish", "It is clear that Cesc will come to Barcelona."

But...

This.

The fans/Catalan media massively over-rate a lot of their youngsters even though a lot of them never make it for one reason or another.

Divine right? What the...? Since when can't a club try to sign whoever they want? I'm the first to hate clubs like City or Madrid who waste players on the bench, but clubs have the right (nothing 'divine' here) to sign whoever they please, as long as they have the cash.

He clearly said "Willingness of the selling club". Anyways its easy to understand Joss's frustration when every Barca players comes up nonsense everytime they give interview..

What does the willingness of the selling club have to do with the interest of the buying club? Chelsea wanted to buy Torres, Liverpool were most likely 'unwiling' to sell him, but they came up with a shitload of cash and that was pretty much it. There is no such thing as 'divine right', it's called money, if you want a player and you can pay for him, and the player would be okay with a move, then the 'willingness' to sell or not can only get you so far. It's the way football is run (sadly), or do you think most clubs in South America wouldn't want to keep at least one of their stars each season?

It's not the offers for players he's railing against, it's the general assumption that the player is already theirs. For example, see the repeated quotes from the Barca players saying Cesc has Barca DNA, etc etc.
