Not the best time considering our season has just imploded. Again. But there's a thread for the other non-trophy winners; Chelsea and Liverpool - so why not Arsenal?

The greatest team the world has ever seen. Discuss! (H)

Was considering making this, but couldn't be bothered to put the effort in for an OP.

*Looks at yours*

Oh...

Just kidding of course. We're ****, that's all for now.

lol you could at least put the badge in the op ;)

anyway as usual come March our season explodes and turns into failure again :(

No, you're not ****, you're just really young, that's all.

Greatest team the world has ever seen :D

At least you could have added something else than what Stubbs wrote in ManUtd thread.

Anyways this is good, all clubs having separate threads where we can discuss even about youth..

I think Arsenal will be even stronger than this season, and i feel it is better to lose Fabregas and build team without him just like how Liverpool did by selling Torres.

Happy?

Also - let's get some discussion going...

The poacher: Yay or Nay this summer? (Do Arsenal go into the market for a poacher in the mould of Darren Bent or not?)

Hope you win something next season, at least emirates cup :p
...
I can see Arshavin, Diaby, Bentner, Fabianski, Almunia in transfer window and someone like Gharet N'kufo ( if you dont know who he is, Arsene knows, dont worry ;) )

Actually didn't even see the MUFC thread. Just posted the truth is all ;)

Hmm - completely different situations tbh. Torres was out of form and Liverpool needed the money.

I expect someone to come along and suggest that Fabregas has also been out of form and hasn't played well this season and therefore wants to leave to Barca but I strongly reject this claim. He's had a tight hamstring pretty much all season and didn't get a pre-season because of the whole winning the World Cup thing :p Torres was out of form even towards the end of last season, though iirc and clearly didn't get on with Hodgson and his tactics.

Cesc on the other hand clearly has a lot of time and respect for everything Wenger has done for him (If he didn't come to Arsenal - where would he be now? Like Bojan on the bench? Wasting away his potential with a handful of First Team apps?). He may well want to go back to Barcelona but I think he cares about the team and Arsenal are under no financial pressure at all to sell.

The team and tactics at the moment is built around him - if he goes, Ramsey will be his natural replacement but Arsenal will try and hold out and I think they can successfully block Barca's attempts (if they make any - Rossell has already said he won't "break the bank"; whatever that means considering their in masses of debt anyway)

yay, but it will be a wide left poacher as opposed to one up front

Hmm - Fabianski and Diaby almost certainly won't be up for sale. I'm not sure Bendtner will be either.

1. Fabianski - Proved himself to be a very good goal-keeper when he wants to be and when he focuses on his job. Has made mistakes this season and in previous ones but he bounced back after Almunia was dropped and was superb until his injury.

2. Diaby - versatile, strong, good on the ball. Positionally indisciplined - that's his only real flaw as well as always wanting to play the perfect pass (meaning he dwells on the ball a lot). Good back-up and unless he's desperate to play First Team football every week, he'll stay I think.

3. Bendtner - again: Fairly versatile... Shown he can cut in from the wings (See his goals against City, Ipswich, Leyton Orient, Blackburn last year in the 6-2 etc.) and is good in the air. Still not quite the complete player and will struggle for starts with RvP fit and Chamakh hopefully improved but Wenger likes him for several reasons and I don't think he's for sale unless a good offer comes in.

Saw this on Sky Spts website in collage, he's seen the light!!! :D

Arsene Wenger has admitted another season without silverware has caused him to question his Arsenal philosophy.
The Gunners boss, who last claimed a trophy with victory in the 2005 FA Cup final, saw his side effectively drop out of the Premier League title race with a 2-1 defeat at Bolton on Sunday.
Wenger's men are now nine points behind leaders Manchester United with just four games of the season remaining and have slipped three adrift of defending champions Chelsea

to third place in the table.
Fanciful talk of a quadruple evaporated during a miserable spell which saw defeats by Birmingham City, Barcelona and United end their Carling Cup, UEFA Champions League
spacer.gif
and FA Cup dreams, with the league now also beyond them.
Despite falling short once again, Wenger insists he will not be changing his approach, although he plans to make some changes to his squad over the summer.
"If someone can convince me that the principles are wrong I am ready to change, but I feel we try to play football the proper way," he told Arsenal TV Online.

When you don't win you question your principles, but you have to give yourself the right distance to see what is right and wrong in what you do.
"I think if something is wrong in our team, it is not the principles in playing our football.
"We have the quality, that is for sure. We have to strengthen the squad where it needs and make the right decision on that front. It [transfers] is always in my mind every day.
"The team have had an outstanding attitude and will not be rewarded because of small things, but small things cost you.
"It is frustrating because the team has produced the efforts.
"We have to be realistic that it [the title] is very unlikely now, but we have to finish as well as we can."

Next up for Arsenal is the visit of United on 1st May, in what Wenger had hoped could prove a title showdown, but where now an Arsenal victory would only seem to serve as a delaying tactic for the Red Devils' coronation or give London rivals Chelsea a shot in the arm.
Wenger accepted shortcomings at the back have proved too costly, with Arsenal missing injured centre-half Thomas Vermaelen for most of the campaign.
"We have not been stable enough defensively," he said.
"The numbers are the numbers - this week we have conceded six goals and you cannot afford to concede six goals in April in three games and win the championship.
"Defensively we have been too frail this season."

Im suprised it took people this long to make a specialised team thread because the Chelsea one has been going for a little while now. I like the idea (not as good as my specialised CL and EL theads ;)) but as important.

[*DISCLAIMER* - The name I'm about to put forward may or may not be ready for the First XI and I'm not suggesting he's going to be the Messiah to Arsenal's problems so don't say I'm putting too much faith in young players etc etc.]

Ryo Myiachi? Has looked excellent in this kind of role for Feyenoord this season so depending on whether he goes back out on loan or not, it will be really interesting to see how he does in pre-season - Wilshere really shone through in the Emirates Cup and has fully deserved his place in the team, but is an exception rather than the rule breaking into the team at 19.

Other than that... Not sure who we could sign. Hazard isn't interested in coming to England as far as I'm aware but could be someone like Karim Ait-Fana (sp)? Who fits the bill in terms of being pacey, right footed, a decent crosser and African/French (I believe he's Morrocan but he played for Montpellier in France and has dual-nationality according to FM!)

I just want a proper leader with some experience and maybe goalkeeper. Im not a fan of Almunia for obvious reasons, he just needs to go he's had enough chances already + hes 33 so i doubt he'll improve much.

Woj is great and has potential but he's kinda young. If we do buy a keeper im not sure if he'll stay so its a risk. But one i think we need to take Sketlenberg(you know who i mean...) said were his first choice and with his contract running out next year i dont see him costing more that £10m.

Finally I think some steel in midfield to challenge Song for a place. Someone insparational Scott Parker would be my first choice but players like De Rossi and co spring to mind but he'll cost. If we sell a few players we could though.

Finally a couple of players i think need to leave are Almunia, Rosicky, Squilacci, Bendtner and Eboue to release some funds to get better quality players.

Szczesny would leave if he's not first choice. I'm sure of that.

Not sure why Parker would come.. He's also completely unrealistic and not the sort of personality Wenger looks for. Why would he come to play second fiddle to Song and/or Wilshere? And if he doesn't - are you really willing to stunt the development of Wilshere and two of the brightest DM talents around in Frimpong and Coquelin? Not to mention shifting an excellent DM in Song.

He needs competition (hopefully one of Frimpong and Coquelin - with a season's exp. in Ligue 1) can provide that.

Risky in Ryo, the whole issue here is that Arshavin isnt consistent enough, so for him to come in and be more than that is asking a lot. A more experienced signing is likely needed,as you say Wilshere was the exception to the rule

Yeah, I agree.

I think it's more of a question of: "How good is he [Ryo]?" and therefore what kind of player do you go for - someone with experience to hold down the place for a couple of years before he's ready to step up and then help him come into the team or someone on the young-ish side?

Young-ish as in just not going on 30 - 20s obviously rather than a teen...

Im not sure if he would play second fiddle though but anyways.

Where will we get that inspirational character from? I personally feel that Cesc isnt the ideal captian and only is because Wenger wanted him to stay. To me he doesnt want to be here anymore and is only staying because of a) the strength of the Barca team b) father figure in wenger c) hope that the team will finally fufill their potential. Apart from him we have TVM and he is the only "commanding player". We need our Rooney, Terry or Gerrard type player someone that well fight and never say never.

In the invincible era we had players like Viera, Campbell and Henry that were steel and players we could rely on and that motivated the team and pulled them through rough patches. Now theyre few and far between for us.

i would like a good backup to song
and a leftback maybe?

Would rather a RB than a LB.

Clichy and Gibbs/Pedro Botelho/Traore (unlikely) should all be fine next season. Clichy is underrated - he makes mistakes occasionally but nothing that can't be fixed by harder training and some help from the man in front of him. You have to remember that a lot of the time he's having to deal with both a winger and a full-back without help from Arshavin (see Barcelona game when he did this brilliantly)
