It's not the offers for players he's railing against, it's the general assumption that the player is already theirs. For example, see the repeated quotes from the Barca players saying Cesc has Barca DNA, etc etc.

Well, that's Cesc's fault because he said he'd be willing to go to Barça. Plus, stating that a player born and raised in Catalunya, with Catalan parents who still live there, who played for Barça at youth level and who is a Barça fan has 'Barça DNA' (Whatever that may be) is not really unfounded.

What does the willingness of the selling club have to do with the interest of the buying club? Chelsea wanted to buy Torres, Liverpool were most likely 'unwiling' to sell him, but they came up with a shitload of cash and that was pretty much it. There is no such thing as 'divine right', it's called money, if you want a player and you can pay for him, and the player would be okay with a move, then the 'willingness' to sell or not can only get you so far. It's the way football is run (sadly), or do you think most clubs in South America wouldn't want to keep at least one of their stars each season?

I saw no wrong with this quote tbh

They seem to think they have some divine right to sign whoever they want; regardless of where he'll fit in or the willingness of the selling club.

They talk as if they player had already signed for them, and it is just a matter of time before they get the player when the parent club is not ready to sell.

Er, not really. Why should Cesc saying he'd be willing to go to Barcelona (his local team etc as you have mentioned) let Barca basically tap him up? Besides, the whole 'Barca DNA' thing was rather minor, compared to some of the other quotes. "Cesc is already a Barcelona player" was a particular highlight...

Is there something called "Barca DNA"? Thats arrogance. Just because Fabregas played for their youth team doesn't mean they can tap him up or talk about him like media whores everytime.

Fabregas left Barca to join Arsenal and is now Arsenal player. If they really want the player they should match the price set by Arsenal.

Cesc is on loan at Arsenal was cherry on the top.. ;)

Forcing the Barca shirt on him after they won the world cup as well. :)

It is just a matter of time - when Barça come up with an amount Arsenal find interesting, he'll go. I don't think there's a way to stop these kind of things.

I'm not saying Cesc's willingness to go means Barça is allowed to tap him up - I'm saying they don't really need to, because the guy will go eventually. And I used the Torres example because I think the case was pretty much the same - the guy wanted to go, there was much talk of Chelsea 'tapping him up' but in the end Chelsea came up with a shitload of cash and that was the end of it. If Barça want the player they will pay.

Maybe it's just that my PoV as an Argie gives me another perspective on the subject, when a big european club comes knocking the player goes regardless of what the club wants.

Imma just waiting for Joss here. Should be fireworks.

Torres forced his transfer, I dont think Fabregas will do same to Arsenal. If he does then Arsenal will sell him. As long as Fabregas dont push for the transfer he will be Arsenal player..

This is all long project of unsettling Cesc so that he wont extend his contract and they can eventually sign him cheaply.

Just quickly:

1. Barca have been courting Cesc for 2 years - Fabregas said last year that should he ever leave Arsenal, he would join Barcelona. So even if we interpret that as him saying he wants to leave, that doesn't excuse the Barca players already talking as if he's their player BEFORE (and after) him saying that. It's just arrogance - he's our captain, Arsenal have said hundreds of times they won't sell, and yet they still talk to the press about him. They've approached Arsenal with a written offer once. They were rebuffed and didn't come back with another offer.

2. Torres wasn't courted for 2 years in the media. Chelsea players didn't come out on a regular basis and say he had "Chelsea DNA" or it was a question of when, not if, he would join.

Imma just waiting for Joss here. Should be fireworks.

Nah you and Sunil have done my work for me!

While we're talking about what the best quotes were, this was mine:

“The whole world knows he wants to come and that we want to sign him. It is a topic that has become so public and that is the worst thing you can do with a transfer, because it makes the selling club raise their expectations and you end up paying over the odds.” (Sandro Rosell)

I disagree, I doubt Arsenal would reject something around the 45-50m mark. Time will tell I guess, in the end it's just speculation - I can't know for sure when, if or how much Barça is willing to pay for him.

And also I want Cesc to stay so that we have slim chance of signing Nasri ;)

And i doubt Barca paying so much. Dont think they have money to pay 50 Million for Fabregas. And also in today's market Fabregas is worth 45-50 Million.

"So there are claims that we will announce the signing of Gervinho on Wednesday.. Lets see what materialises." (@thegoonblog)

Trying to get more info on this, will update if/when any more is said.

Was about to go but you came just in time!

Torres didn't have that sort of 'treatment' because, well, his background had nothing to do with Chelsea. He was lured by other means, such as trophies - he didn't get any yet, though - and while Barça could very easily use the same argument they've focused on another subject, which I guess we all known and I'm too lazy to describe it yet again.

The fact thar Barça players talk about Cesc is not really surprising either - another example could/would be Evra talking about Nasri, for instance - since they've known each other by means of the NT for quite some time, yet I don't remember them being into this sort of things a year ago, I'll disagree with you on that. In my eyes if Cesc hadn't said that this situation wouldn't have developed as much as it did, and after that, I think there's not much you could do if Barça decide to splash on him.

//Edit - Now I'm off. Got a lot of reading to do on the SPD, another lot about the industrial revolution in Germany and a few pages of 'Le rouge et le noir' to read for tomorrow, so I won't be back here for a while. However if you feel like discussing this any further I'll try to reply later tonight :P

Don't think the Cesc situation affects the Nasri one at all tbh. Nasri wants a bumper contract regardless. Cesc just happens to be the highest earner at 90-100k a week. Nasri doesn't "want to play in the hole" either as some people have suggested - I think he's happy on the right since he can move in behind RvP and drift wherever he wants anyway.

But that's simply not true. They've been talking about him since BEFORE he said anything at all about it.

And the Evra - Nasri thing is completely different. It's a one off text/interview with a newspaper - Barca do it on a regular basis.

With Cesc staying Wenger may or may not Nasri's demands, but if Cesc is sure to go then surely Wenger will do everything that can be done to keep Nasri. He wont lose 2 quality players in the same window isn't it.

Saying this, I dont think we have a chance to sign Nasri, just a hope.

Oh right I see what you mean... still don't think he'll leave tbh but I'm probably being optimistic. Don't think he'd go to Utd either despite his comments.

Yeah, even I think he will stay. Even if he refuse to sign contract then there will be so many teams from Italy wanting him. Milan will surely be after him.

Still you lot are ungrateful. We have given you French superstar. ;)
