Saw it this morning, Doubt it is close, as the first we hear about it is, either the mail, mirror or sun.

I don't know much about him tbh.

What kind of player is he? (*Checks FM to see if he's any good or not*)

Any deal in which we can offload Denilson is probably a good one to be fair. Shakhtar have hundreds of thousands of Brazilians in their team.. I heard Sevilla were (for some inexplicable reason) interested in Denilson for £8m, though. In which case we should bite their hands off before they get a chance to see what he's really like, not just on youtube.

A good one. Maybe a bit in the shadow of Douglas Costa, but either way a good player. Comfortable across the midfield and attack, good dribbler, very quick and has excellent technique.

Yeah even I read that. **** sake, question is. Who the **** is that Marco Silva? Gervinho's agent or some journalist?

How good is this Jenkinson lad? Have no idea except that he is a RB.

I'll be honest... I've never even heard of him. Don't think he's going to be a star but a decent player. We'll see in the future.

If disgruntled Finnish people are to be believed, then not very.

Probably bitter because the FA are trying to convince him to play for England, not Finland.

Yes. Big pity for him - he can't get a break.

Only time will tell I suppose, not to mention there is plenty of time for improvement, especially now he's moved to us.

Not bitter, just better.
It's cute how you find every possible excuse to defend your poor signings.

Sigh Gibbs.. Such an unlucky player.. Arsenal can't afford to lose Clichy with hopes pinned on Gibbs.. ..

Well unless you watch Finland U19/Charlton Reserves, I'm not sure how you know he's going to be a poor signing without him even putting on an Arsenal shirt, but OK. I'm not defending him at all - I've not seen him play but he broke into Charlton's first team for a brief spell and is obviously rated by the Arsenal staff so I'm remaining optimistic about it and waiting till I actually see him in action.

We've got Pedro and Traore coming back as well next season. Hopefully Gibbs can finally sort out his injury problems. Proper unlucky.

Oh and there's not much chance of us losing Clichy tbh. As I said the other day, there was one article in the sun about it a while ahgo because his contract is running out but there's not been any noise about it since so I assume he's in discussions about a new deal.

After watching Sweden vs Finland yesterday I'd say even if Jenkinson ain't good enought to challenge for Arsenal's first team in future he'd still be better defender than we have atm. So Finland should do everything they can to keep him. Even give him his first cap in next qualifier if needed.

I dont get SSN, this is what i read..

According to SSN he actually turned down Arsenal to sign for us, not Liverpool.

Interesting, and not something that has happened lately with young players so very good news!

So Jones was the defender Wenger was talking about?

Wenger wasn't really talking about any specific defender. He didn't say he had anyone lined up as far as I know. He was looking for experience and height. Jones ticks one of those boxes but I can't really see why that'd be true tbh. He's keen on Bartley and Miquel and Koscielny, Djourou and Vermaelen are all still comparatively (to Rio/Vidic) young.

After months of speculation and rumour, Carl Jenkinson’s transfer to Arsenal was finally confirmed this afternoon. The 19-year-old moves to North London for a compensation fee of around £1 million.

To get the low down on Jenkinson, I caught up with Charlton fan and youth team expert Scott, who tweets about the Addicks youngsters over at CAFCYouth. He began by giving an introduction to Carl.

“Carl has been with Charlton since Under 9 level. He made his Under 18 debut in 2007, as an Under 16. He played regularly for the Under 18′s from 2008 to 2010, and also made international appearances for both England and Finland at youth level. He also captained Charlton Under 18′s in their three FA Youth Cup matches at The Valley last season and Finland Under 18′s in an 8 team tournament last season.”

“He’s also made several appearances in Reserve friendlies during the last season and played in first-team friendlies last pre-season.”

Many have written about Jenkinson, but few have actually agreed on his best position. Scott set the record straight on that.

“He is comfortable at both right back, as he’s right footed, and centre back. He can occasionally play at left back, but he’s better in the other two positions. He has also had the odd game in central midfield. At the moment I see him as a right back, as he probably isn’t quite strong enough or dominant in the air to play centre back at present.”

And overall? What is Jenkinson’s best qualities? Scott gave his view.

“He’s a good all round player, comfortable on the ball, looks to run with it, intelligent, tall, hard working and versatile. That’s not to say he’s proven even at League One level yet, he’s not even started 10 games for us. I’m sure if he keeps working at his game he’ll improve in all areas, get stronger, read the game better, make better decisions. He also takes a good set piece.”

Jenkinson has without doubt upset a number of Charlton fans, after turning down a new contract to join Arsenal. However, Scott believes this decision was totally understandable.

“I can’t blame him from moving on. We only gave him a 1 year deal, he and his family support Arsenal, and the opportunity to train with Premier League players, coaches and have Wenger as manager is too good to turn down.”

For the final word on Jenkinson, Scott gave me his initial opinion on how he thinks the young defender will do at Arsenal.

“He’s a gamble, he’s not not as proven as Jonjo Shelvey was at first team level, but one worth you taking I think. With better players around him, who are more comfortable on the ball, you will see him pass the on the floor and show his real quality.”

You can follow Scott on Twitter, over @CAFCYouth.
