I'd take Hangeland simply for his prowess at set-pieces. We conceded more than 50% of our goals last season from them, a ridiculous stat.

Very true, that being said, I don't feel that he is comfortable on the ball enough to play in the Arsenal team. I.e. The ball goes back to the defenders quite a lot and mistakes could possibly be made with a poor touch/passing etc.

I'd have thought Hangeland was better on the ball than Samba was?

Samba isn't better than Hangeland on that front. Hangeland has okay technique.

he is a ledgend but every ledgend has faults and arsenes fault is his transfer policy, year after year i fool my self into thinking the youngsters will get better but hardly any of them have improved over the last few years, wilshere, fabregas and walcott are about the only few youngsters really to of developed in the last couple of years, he will always be a ledgend but if he wants to win trophies he must invest in the transfer market, we have no one who can get us out of a bad performance apart from fabregas, arshavin. if we win no trophy next season, fabregas, nasri, van persie there more than likely going to leave, then we have no team so if he doesnt bring in some world class players this transfer market, were screwed basically because we need expirience. we have never had a good goalie since seamen and every top top team has a great keeper so he needs start at the back and work around the core of the team which is wilshere, fabregas, van persie, and nasri.

Is Carl Jenkinson any good? Anyone watched him play? Can he become anything, is he a wonderkid?

Szczezny, Song, Nasri, Koscielny, Djorou, Walcott & Wishere, along with most of the established players have certainly kicked on this year.

Agreed, to say they haven't improved is ridiculous. Especially Wilshere, Szczezny and Walcott.

well i have to admit szczezny played quite well in a few games but the problem is inconsistency i think. we play supreme football, best football in prem by far but most of the times its just that 1 pass to many. the players need to know the right time to shoot instead of passing the ball to get a perfect goal. have to say though, koscielny is a terrible footballer he can defend at all he has okay games but he is nowhere near good enough for are starting 11.
szczezny

clichy djourou vermalaen sagna

fabregas wilshere nasri

van persie chamakh arshavin

probz our best current line - up :) its basically the defence that needs improving along with a GK :)

****** ****. You're like all the cliches about silly fans rolled into one...

Wenger wont bring in another 1st choice keeper to halter the progress of Szczezny. I personally don't think Arshavin and Chamkh are Arsenal first team standard and should be replaced. It's whether Wenger goes for the typical cheap okay players of pay that more for great players, examples being Hazard Falcao/Benzema.
I go to college in the south coast and my friend went to school with Alex Chamberlain. If he leaves this transfer window which he is hoping for, it will be for Arsenal.

Isn't experience what every one has been banging on about this season? Koscielny is unproven, Djourou's too young, Wenger needs to give up on signing young players, don't sign Carl Jenkinson - sign Phil Jones (who's the same age) etc. etc.

He tried to bring in experience and a "winning mentality" in Squillaci but it didn't work for one reason or another (he was actually half-decent when not playing with the slightly risky Koscielny) so now people want Samba because he's an experienced PL defender (who can't run/turn) or Cahill because he's apparently more proven and experienced and with more of a winning mentality than Koscielny and Vermaelen (Both 25 - Vermaelen having won 5 trophies in Holland, Cahill having won sweet **** all). Except now people say they wanted Jones - a player who's smaller and younger than both Vermaelen and Koscielny (19, 5'11). He's a good player - of course he is - but he's not what Arsenal need at all. Especially when we have Bartley.

Nice to see it's true.

I think he would of progressed better at Arsenal due to more first team games however I wish well for the lad at United.
Although Cahill is good, I still think he is overrated. I would rather spend that more and get Sakho or Vert.
Nice to see RVP getting some luck when it comes to injuries too.

Not sure he would have got more FT action tbh. If he did, it would mean the end for Bartley I would fear. And I don't want that at all.

Genuine Question: Have you ever seen Sakho or - even less likely - Verthongen play? Do you watch the Belgian national side, or the Eredivsie? Or are you YouTubing them and going by FM? How do you know they're not massively overrated as well?

My Grandad, having lived in France for 4 years watches French football regularly. I go round there on a weekly basis and watch most of the games he watches, PSG included. I have watched the Belgian National side rarely, but from what I've seen he seems like a solid player.

IMO, the only good thing about Wenger bidding for Jones was that it shows he is going to be willing to spend this window.

I'm glad we didn't get him though, we need more experience brought into the defence and not a young guy who is showing alot of potential. We already have that in Bartley.

BBC Sport - Arsenal sign Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson

What do you know about Jenkinson, Joss? I haven't even heard of him, but I trust Wenger's judgement on youngsters, especially if they are under-21 England internationals.

Don't know anything about him. There was a Charlton fan a couple of pages back with a name too difficult to remember that posted a good little review of him, and I posted something from young guns. Some speculation he might go straight to be 2nd choice with Eboue offloaded and another player brought in since Jenkinson is U21 and doesn't need to be registered.

He played well against England when he came on for France in the second half, coping with Carroll very well. I've seen him play a number of games for PSG, and he's always looked assured and done well. His build reminds me a lot of Samba, but he is far better technically and has age on his side.
