I would be happy with Willian, Chamberlain, Gervinho and Cahill coming in (And perhaps right back cover). Bendtner, Eboue, Denilson, Rosicky, Squiallachi and perhaps Arshavin leaving. 20M net spend? Not too bad IMO. Realistic IMO, also.

Wow, another Sol Campbell incident, now on defoe

Arsenal Tottenham transfer news Jermain Defoe lined up sensational move to north London arch-rivals - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal to go for Defoe

Arsenal are lining up a sensational bid to bag Jermain Defoe from arch-rivals Tottenham.

The England forward is looking at his options after being frozen out at White Hart Lane last season.

Tottenham are understood to be willing to listen to offers for the man who started only 16 League games.

The striker, signed for £15.75million from Portsmouth two years ago, could now become the fox in the box the Gunners have long been crying out for.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis have both insisted the club will be far busier this summer than they have been in recent transfer windows.

With Nicklas Bendtner having declared his intention to quit the Emirates, Wenger is hunting a top-class marksman to give some cutting edge to his team’s play.

While the signing of Defoe, 27, would require the player to cross the bitter north London divide, the stark reality is he was a fringe player at White Hart Lane last season but would have much to offer at the Emirates.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is already targeting at least two experienced strikers to freshen up the Tottenham front line.

Redknapp is keen on Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and has had bids for Internacional’s Leandro Damiao and Espanyol’s Pablo Osvaldo turned down.

Defoe has two and a half years left on his contract but Spurs have shown no inclination to tie him to a new deal.

Although Redknapp has been critical of his side's lack of goals this season, they are felt to have played more to the strengths of big Peter Crouch rather than diminutive Defoe.

Arsenal’s late-season collapse after their Carling Cup Final defeat in February condemned them to a sixth campaign without any silverware and means they face an August play-off to reach the Champions League's group stage.

And this is mentioned in an article about Defoe because.....

EDIT - We wouldn't get him anyway. Much better players out there, might cost a bit more but are much better as well.

Defoe's a good player when he's on form, and supports the Arsenal - would give him extra drive in games surely?

Even so, I'd rather we bought a lot of other people before considering him.

its common i guess, moveing to arch rivals. like how ash cole when to chelsea. sol campbell coming to arsenal, and then win the double under him.

north london derby match ive seen we lost, was cuz of defoe's introduction in teh seccond half for spurs. not to mention the workrate of vdv, modric, bales, but defoe was he game changer in that 3-2 lol at emirtes, and 2-1 lol in white lane a season before.

agreed, harry just uses him as a sub, and Harry is a ******* wheeler dealer.

Defoe does deserve XI position.

No thanks. If we go for Defoe, that really sums up what we've come to after 6 years. Don't want him, don't want him, DON'T WANT HIM. He's Sp*rs, he's usually ****, and he's not what we need at all.

According to sources on twitter who are usually pretty reliable, the Defoe story has no truth in it. Northbanklower says it stinks of a journalist doing an agent a favour in trying to ruse big clubs to bid for him.

By the way - hate to bring this up again, but the title in the Guardian print this morning was: "Fabregas: Moving to Barcelona would guarantee trophies". You're telling me there's no spin there at all? I know he says it, but there's other stuff which is clearly more important.

Gervinho is most likely the one who replaces Bendtner. Gervinho is at his best at the role which Arsene tried to play Bendtner this season

Arsenal have signed Ivory Coast striker Gervinho on a four-year deal from French outfit Lille, it is being tweeted.
Followers of the @DarrenArsenal1 Twitter account received the info just now. He wrote: "Gervinho has agreed a 4 year deal with #arsenal and club hope to announce signing before the weekend."
We wouldn't normally repeat this as news but Darren -- a lifelong fan and well-known figure at the club -- is known to have reliable sources at the club.
It was reported earlier today that the Gunners have agreed personal terms with the forward and he was ready to put pen to paper on a contract for fee of £10.6m.
Gervinho played an big part role in Lille’s double-winning campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists. It is suspected that Gervinho’s arrival in N5 will speed the departure of wantaway Nicklas Bendtner .More follows...

Jamie Dalton says the Samba deal is almost finished, and also says:

"Wouldn't rule out Cahill and Gordon either. And a forward."

Hope not. We don't need 2 CBs, we certainly don't need a GK or a forward if we're signing Gervinho.

as i am scottish and biast ;)

i would love Gordon at Arsenal :)

A 28 year old 'keeper who expects to be first choice and would cost upwards of £8-10m? No thanks. Would much rather let Szczesny develop.

Gordon is a great keeper, but I'd rather we didn't halt Szczesny's progress.

not as first choice though as thats Szceznsy position but he's would be a good backup gk

So would Fabianski. But we don't have to pay £10m for him. Gordon wouldn't come to just sit on the bench IMO.

Jens definitely isn't staying by the way. German teams interested. Apparently he wanted huge wages.

suppose you could say the same about Fabianski?

does he want to be back on the bench every game after getting a taste of a #1 spot last season

I think he appreciates how lucky he is to be at Arsenal. He's never been 1st choice, he's 2nd choice but is happier than Gordon would be.

More like Koscielny/Djourou alongside TV5. Samba won't be first choice IMO. Not good enough, and wouldn't work well with Vermaelen's offensive/aggressive style. Needs someone quick behind him to cover - hence why he and Gallas were so good together. Vermaelen provides aerial/physical presence, Koscielny/Djourou provide agility and quality on the ground.
