Xavi: "It seems absurd to me. I was only acting on the interests of Cesc and Barca. But I don't want to get into a war of words with Wenger. Arsenal have agreed to negotiate and there is still plenty of time so hopefully to get him here."

As much as I hate arsenal, it's got to be said that Barcelona are using dirty tactics here. They've been trying this with cesc for years. The spain team being "boss" mates with him at the euros 2008, cesc getting a barca shirt put on him, now Xavi being his best mate. Hate the way Barca go round doing their business.

Seems the club that made a bigger offer to Joel Campbell (after he had apparently agreed everything with Arsenal, and passed a medical) was Man Utd, who are still interested. Looking back at some older quotes, though - his father always said that the deal would be concluded after the U20 WC.

Still trying to find out some more details - I've been away so I'm completely out of the loop.

lol at all the hype about Guardiola's quote. "Negotiating" w/ Barca doesn't mean "accepting" an offer...

They hype around Guardiola quote is that for the last 2 years he's tried to sign Fabregas he's been bluntly told he's not leaving/we're not selling..

Now he's been told, if you come in with the right offer we'll let him go. That's a massive step forward in this saga.

So Smalling, Phil Jones, Joel Campbell (Maybe). Hopefully list grows for taking our boy Ramsey away ;)

It's not a massive step forward at all. We've known for the past month or two that we've been willing to sell. What can Wenger say in public? He says he isn't for sale, and he wasn't at all last season (whatever the price pretty much), but I think most Arsenal fans have accepted that if they come in with a bid of £40-5m, we'll accept.

Ha. I think Phil Jones is a little different tbh in that he was hardly an unknown prospect coming through the Reserve ranks of a smaller team... Smalling counts, as would Campbell.. [in terms of Utd winning the race for young players]

But I'd still rather have Ramsey for £5m than all of them ;)

Fans knew it, just like they knew they were going to sign Gervinho. But the fact it's been made to be public knowledge now by probably the only Barcelona person who's been respectable about the whole situation says a lot.

Well Ramsey was well known prospect like Jones.

And Coz of your last line I said May the list continues. :(

My point - albeit rather weak - was that Ramsey was a teenager just about breaking through to the first team squad in the Championship, whereas Jones was more of an established PL player rather than some sort of diamond in the rough ;)

Seems we've pulled out of the Campbell deal, for now at least. He missed a meeting after his father had claimed everything was done, so obviously we weren't impressed by his attitude. Why do so many South American players have such terrible attitudes?

Its because of money. No player with just ambition in his mind would turn down Arsenal, one of the best clubs to develop youngsters and turn them into world class players! He has obviously been told if he waits it out, he can get more money from a club.. c'mon, rejecting an offer because he has to think of the U20 World Cup.. thats a lame excuse!

Well it's a fair enough excuse/reason, but a) if he's done it before, it suggests the U20 World Cup has less influence on his decision than he claims, and b) Why all the talk from his father pre-meeting? He said he passed a medical, signed personal terms, and would wear #12.

Exactly my thoughts, which leads me to think Arsenal aren't the only team sniffing around him. There has been reports United have been looking at him, i think the player may have said this in order to generate more interest thinking he could always go back on the Arsenal offer afterwards. Doesn't feel right.

Arsenal pay bigger wages for youngsters than many clubs. Its just they wont pay over the top for key players.

Utd's interest has been reported yeah. Doubt they'd sign someone with such a horrible attitude though. Goes against everything they usually stand for tbh.

Well if he turned down Arsenal to join us I would welcome him. But if the same happened to us, I would say **** off, we are better without you..

Yeah, except that Fabregas was specifically told he wasn't going to get first team chances at Barca. It wasn't just that they were unable to offer him a contract so we gave him a bundle of cash... The "saga" started when they decided they want to re-group the 'lost' La Masia side from the early 2000s (Messi, Cesc, Pique, Valdes, Busquets, etc.) - Fabregas was getting better and better and they now want him back because of some arrogant belief that he belongs to them (like an 8 year old child giving his friend a spade and then deciding he wants it back because he's jealous 20 minutes later).

thanks joss. i found my answer
so it was that 'lost' La Masia that they want to regroup. who was the manager at that time?

17 mil for Gary Cahill? Am I the only one who thinks that's AT LEAST 7 mil too much? Sure, Cahill's a decent young English defender, but he makes mistakes and whilst he's a threat from set-pieces at the opposition end he's hardly brilliant defending corners in his own area.
