Carl Jenkinson has revealed the reasoning behind his Arsenal squad number.
The summer signing has been allocated the No 25 shirt for his debut season at the Club and explained on Thursday why he selected that one in particular.
“It was my parents' door number so that was the reason!” he said during a Q and A with Arsenal Members at Emirates Stadium.
“That was the number I wanted to have and luckily it was available.”
Thomas Vermaelen believes that “small details” will make a big difference this season.
The centre half was sidelined with injury for much of last term but, for a time, believed his team-mates would be taking home the title. Now fully recovered, the Belgian international is raring to go and argues that minor tweaks could bring great reward this season.
“I don’t think we are going to do much different in the way we play,” he said at a Question and Answer session on Members’ Day. “I was not playing last year but I was watching games and in February/March I thought we were going to win the League. I think it is about small things and last season we only lost it in the final few weeks.
“What we do have to do is perform better in the second half of the season, in the New Year. That is where we dropped too many points. But I don’t think we have to change the way that we play. We beat a lot of teams this way. It is just the small details that will make a difference and I hope we can win it this year.”
Jack Wilshere admits he is still trying to prove himself at Arsenal.
It has been an incredible 12 months for the young midfielder. Speaking at a Question and Answer session with Junior Gunners at Members Day, Wilshere recalled that at the start of August last year he had not actually played for Arsène Wenger’s side in a competitive game.
Of course, he has since gone on to establish himself for Club and Country. For Wilshere, it has brought an extra responsibility to perform and he is not about to rest on his laurels.
“I don’t really feel any more pressure now,” he said. “I play in a good team so the players around me make it easier. There is a bit more responsibility though.
“At this stage last year I had not played a game for Arsenal. I was just trying to prove myself. I am still trying to prove myself now really. I am just trying to keep my place in the team.
“I am still young and I know I have a lot to learn but there is a bit more responsibility on me now.”
