What I don't get is.. There was so much anger at Chelsea not holding on to their player of the year for 2 seasons successively, and selling him to their rivals.

Yet, when we try to do what you guys didn't, and try to hold on to our best player in recent times, it suddenly becomes a crime.

Nice.

Mata is our best player? News to me ... WAS kiddo WAS. Eddie Hazard is the new man in town

Yep. Hazard is for next season when he wins player of the year award, or maybe we don't shop at the same place twice.

By all reports, we were willing to match his wage and he was willing to move .... Now he managed to wrangle out another contact for 5 years without making himself public enemy No. 1 by forcing a move. Whatever happened to no one is bigger than the club?

What do you expect? Rooney running down his contract and joining our rivals?

Rooney signing contract is a huge news for ManUtd and any player in his prime signing extension will get wage increase. Newsflash: It's so common in football or in any industry.

Probably only place where I will read Best player signing contract sends wrong signal.

Oh btw, any links which says you only agreed to match his wages?

Why are you wasting your time? It's pretty obvious he's just being like that because we've
A) Just signed their best player.... when Hazard wins 2 player of the season awards in a row then we can argue that point.

B) It looks very unlikely Rooney will be joining them... regarding the whole wage thing that's just nonsense. If Chelsea signed Rooney they would be paying extortionate wages and furthermore Alcaraz in particular would be saying how good of a signing it was and all the lark.

If Rooney does get a new contract then obviously it's good news... but I've lost respect for him a long time ago, things he's done in the past to the club... he'll never be true legend like Bobby Charlton.

Anyways as exciting as this rumour is, I think we can file it under the 'highly unlikely' section. Chelsea have absolutely no incentive to sell in January but this is something that would generate a lot of noise in the summer I assume

I agree with you but there are a plethora of other options we can consider before we sell him to United

I like to believe Chelsea isn't run by a bunch of morons so if this deal goes through without Rooney going the other way, you guys can rib and call me every name under the sun but admit it, this deal looks super unlikely

Lol. Had to repost Alcaraz's foolish comments he made on the United thread, how it has come back to haunt him. (6)

I guess.. you're right... Chelsea must be run by a bunch of morons.

Huh? Trust me I am not ... You do understand that Mata is not regarded as our best player anymore under Mourinho. That he has been relegated to a side role and that's essentially 99.9999% of the reason we sold him

Meh laugh all you want, even the most casual fan can see that Subtle and I had strong reasons to believe that this deal wouldn't go through. The fact that it went through at all has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Woodwards 'transfer genius' and more of Chelsea's stupidity or politics or whatever name you care to give it

Except that giving him a wage increase when he is already on such insane wages on a five year contract at 28 makes little sense. Don't try to pass this off as 'wage increase' for a player in his prime. It's obvious that this is just another way you guys are going to make sure you hang onto him. It's hilarious to see that he has blackmailed your club THRICE and will come out each time laughing all the way to bank. Why does this send the wrong message to the squad? Well isn't it obvious?

And you can find a link yourself mate. Chelsea were happy to match his wages and he was happy to come. I think Rooney is at a point in his life where money hardly matters considering he will be paid as much anyways. He wanted to come to play under Jose and for a new challenge

Jeez talking of taking things to the extreme ... Why you can't you view this objectively for yourself? Are you happy giving a 300k p/w contract to a player who is 28 for five years in order to keep him when you can just as easily run his contract down by which time he will be 30 and unlikely to survive more than 2-3 years at the top

Anyways I think that it is indeed a strong statement from United if they manage to hang onto Rooney but offering him a five year contract for 300k p/w is slightly insane ... What's to stop players of similar calibre holding the club to random in the future? After all Rooney has managed to set a precedent thrice without United ever taking more than a submissive stand

So run it down until he's 30, give him 2-3 more years at top level so until he's 32-33... wait a minute, five year contract, currently 28... that would make him 33.

Summary of your last week:

Telling us United would struggle to attract the top players without the guarantee of CL football.
We sign your best, and favourite player, while sat in 7th.

Telling us that there's NO WAY Chelsea would even consider it unless Rooney was going the other way.
Looks like Rooney's getting a new contract

Now, despite Rooney being the only possible thing that could ever make the Mata sale acceptable in your eyes, you suddenly don't want him, and try and twist it to make United look weak, a-la point 1.

You must have nearly made it to the other side of the world with all this digging you're doing.

This thread is so bitter anyone would think Chelsea are the ones in 7th

Guys, Hazard's only 22. Let's give Chelsea some time to develop him and then we will buy him.

Signed was your player for the year twice.

Anyways as long as we have Jose working from Chelsea we are sure we will have a fair shot at getting Hazard too :P

Hopefully we won't be paying 7 Million to his agent.

He was our fans best player last season yes, but in terms of ability he is not our best player. Arguably 3rd now days behind Hazard and Oscar.

In terms of ability right now Mata is better than both of them at what he does. Easily.

At what he offers yes, but not at what he/they offer the team in general then not a chance. Sensational footballer without a doubt not denying that, but as we have seen i'd rather Oscar and Hazard any day of the week. Offer far far more and in my opinion Hazard could become something really special.
