1. No because one striker was playing in China and the other was playing in England. Unfair comparison to make

2. He still has a big impact. I am pretty sure him being gone would give the club a lot more room to work with. Perhaps offer that type of money to a player who really deserves it like Pogba/Vidal

3. Still relevant to some degree

4. Fair enough

5. Yeah but surely having his idol around to convince him would help

1. His decision to go to China, like it or not, that is where he played, and that has an impact on the kind of player he is.

2. Actually Chelsea are really quite comfortable now, the need to dump him has passed.

3. Polarizing but effective on pitch >>>> loved and a bit rubbish. Recent United example Rooney vs Ferdinand.

5. Not if he is sat out. We already know its by far his biggest issue with Chelsea, and Jose his supposed to be his favoured manager, so that should tell you everything.

Yeah well that was the point of the post :P

Ah, I didn't read that far back.

Also, regarding Drogba, that's a guaranteed 6 points against Wenger this season then. He always loves bullying our lot ... Plus he'll probably become a good coach.

Isn't that exactly what Charlton and Ferguson did?

Actually no, Fergie's first choice was Ancelotti.

Mourinho was down the list probably because he's a short-term manager virtually always. Despite what Alcaraz says, United still looks to appoint managers for the long-term rather than a few seasons.

I'll PM you it once I get going on it, I did a couple of world cup ones but was less than happy with them, the books was brilliant especially inverting the pyramid still working my way through the ball is round its a big ******

Oh yeah and add me to the list of people who'd like to read your blog :)

I'd be interested too, if you don't mind :)

Yeah sure I need to refine my style a bit in how I link points together gunna have a couple more practices this week but once I am happy will definitely let you know

Inverting is excellent. What I really wanted was Carlo Ancellotti's book, but I cant' seem to find it in English. He actually used his tactical play in from the book against both Bayern, and Atletico.

The beautiful games of an ordinary genius?

I know Chelsea are comfortable but that doesn't mean they won't be falling over themselves to dump him if the chance came up. It gives them extra impetus to make a luxury signing instead of paying £150k p/w to a third choice striker

Yes that does have an impact on the player he is but his past track record has shown that when playing in a good team and given the same conditions as Torres, he is far more effective

Jonathan Wilson's books in general are fantastic knowledge builders. Check out "Behind the Curtain" if you ever find yourself wanting to learn more about Eastern European football haha. I've heard a lot of good things about The Ball is Round, are you far enough through as to be able to recommend it?

If you are interested in the history of football I would absolutely recommend!

Yeah LVG's track record shows he is the man for the long-term. Another 25 years of domination awaits, ***** out United fans

I think that's the one. Really want that book.

Oh wellz ... Since Torres won't be leaving. Apparently Tiago is rejoining Atletico. That means either one of the youngsters is staying at Chelsea or we are buying someone new

Shows he's the best man at rebuilding a club... that's what we need right now. Oh and just to add, this will be LVG's last role in management so it has a possibility of being more than a few seasons.

Oh and also who is the assistant, Ryan Giggs? We're still very much thinking about the bigger picture. If LVG retires at 65 so be it, but at least we'll have a ready made replacement taught by a manager who knows his stuff.

wow this has gone on and on and on!!! So lets chuck my 2 pence in shall i!

Torres has scored some big goals in Europe since joining us and also been involved in some big moments. Won the corner which led to Drogba's goal in Munich, 2 big goals away at Schalke, opener in the Europa League final, opener vs Bayern in the super cup but as much as the one against Barca didn't win us the game it did clinch it and there were 3 odd minutes of pure nervousness and massive Barca pressure coming up so it was a big goal.

Having said all that you cannot keep a player who has been okay just in Europe and prey he will continue to do that in the future not when he is receiving 170k a week! We now have a striker in his prime (Costa) a young lad (Lukaku) so maybe the third choice should be an old figurehead in Drogba? He will be on a far less wage than Torres and we will receive some money for Torres too so that massively helps with FFP too. Drogba is old yes, is past it yes, but i'd rather have a lower wage receiving Drogba not even on the bench than a 170k a week receiving Torres. Torres barely changes games from the bench either so its a pointless sub to have. Drogba could also mentor Lukaku which could be massive for the future of this club.

I don't doubt Drogba can still make an impact as 3rd choice striker. The issue is, he's doesn't make a very good 3rd-and-last striker. He's a 36 year old injury prone pensioner who can't even last 90 minutes at PL pace. That leaves you very vulnerable in my book in case some injuries and bookings occur (which they will).

These are all suppositions. He could last 90 minutes for all we know. I will agree he's not someone you want to rely on, though. If I were Chelsea I'd bring in a 27ish year old striker who's fine with sitting on the bench as the third choice and use Drogba in the Giggs role.

Jumping all over the place? I'm sitting in my chair actually.

Oh yeh hahahaha, Moyes and United's worst season for 2 decades = more success.

Congratulations on your CL finish, not sure what trophy that earns you, think they call it the Wenger Cup.

Hey, bud. Before dragging Le Professeur into this, it would behoof you to remember we won the FA Cup last season. Or does that competition mean nothing either?

I was referring the post to Chelsea but no one can deny Arsenal/Wenger are largely viewed as a club over the last several seasons who seem to have ambitions to finish in top 4 rather than winning the title. Or perhaps it's just a case of you always drift away throughout the season and end up struggling to get 4th.
