Well we really should have won the game comfortably. Rui Patricio put in an FM-esque goalie performance making some brilliant saves

Wow that was a tough and frustrating 94 minutes of football to watch! I felt we started brilliantly and should have been 1 up with Costa's early chance, but as they said in commentary it was a matter of when not if we would score. I actually tweeted a complaint about our corners being "back to the way we all know" as they kept failing to beat the 1st man with Schurrle and Hazard being the main culprits. But then we the penny dropped, why not let Cesc have a set-piece, straight on Nemanja's nut and 1-0 probably the least favourite player in Sporting's fans eyes to hit the back of the net.

I was happy at half time, although we missed 2-3 really clear cut chances i felt we were very much in control but Sporting upped the ante early on showing a bit more to their game. But if anything although they looked a little more dangerous it was the same story as the first half, missing very clear cut chances both Oscar and Salah missing one on ones, players choosing the wrong option in key areas!

Overall i'm content with the performance as on another day we win this 5-0 but the result is a massive one and one i am very pleased with especially now as that's 2 clean sheets in a row. Costa led the line well again, even when he isn't scoring he is effecting games with his physicality bulling the back 4, he is an absolute joy to watch.

But my main point i want to talk about is the man who was my man of the match (aside from Rui Patricio). When Sporting started to get into the game from 45 minutes on wards all of their chances/focus came down our right side and that was for two reasons. 1) Ivanovic continued to struggle with his defensive positioning and 2) Felipe Luis was absolutely exceptional! There has been a discussion going on in various Chelsea related places since the summer about who will be our fullbacks this season but with the start attacking wise Ivanovic has made and Azpi's consistency you can see why Jose stuck with these two. It's mad even talking up Luis because this is a man who was regarded as the best left back in the game last season so why shouldn't he be putting performances in like this? I actually think we may be better off with Luiz and Azpi as our full backs in their natural positions and maybe use Ivanovic as a JT/Cahill/Azpi back-up player. I absolutely love Brana but feel we would be far more balanced as a squad on the whole with proper fullbacks on their proper sides.

Great goal by KdB.
You think he will want to come back to Chelsea in FM2015? :D

Next fixture Arsenal ( H ) on 25/10/14 @14:05 on SkySports.

Our last result at the Bridge vs Arsenal 22/05/2014: Chelsea (Eto'o, Schurrle, Hazard, Oscar x2, Salah) 6-0 Arsenal.
^^^ALSO OUR BIGGEST WIN^^^

Our biggest ever defeat at the Bridge vs Arsenal 29/11/1930: Chelsea (Thomas Law) 1-5 (Jack Lambert, Joey Williams, David Jack x3) Arsenal.

Our record at the Bridge vs Arsenal (all comps): Played-85, Won-31, Drawn-28, Lost-26, For-114, Against-110.

My stats of the game: Arsene Wenger has never beaten Jose Mourinho in the 11 times they have faced each other. Jose has 6 wins and 5 draws
scoring 19 times and conceding just 6 in the 11 meetings.

Chelsea kept clean sheets in all the 3 meetings with Arsenal last season.

Did Arsenal have any shots ON goal?
How many teams could put on a goalkeeper like Cech, after the first team choice gets injured? We are lucky to be in this position.

Great game. Very impressed by Hazard, Matic and Oscar's defensive workrate.

Great performance. Arsenal had NO shots on target at all. What a performance from Oscar! MOTM for me

Hazard's run for the penalty was great.

Also nice to see Cesc and Costa abusing the OP lobbed through ball

Well what can you really say about this game, it was of course Arsenal and Jose vs Wenger we kind of all knew what was going to happen. Having said that Arsenal seemed to have a new confidence about them, "Thierry" Welbecks hat-trick mid-week and Sanchez's start gave them reason to be confident. But Chelsea and Mr Mourinho care not about all that stuff, again we show our ruthlessness in attack and machine like defensive qualities.

Hazard's run and penalty itself was a thing of utter beauty, there are not many players in world football who can jink past 2 players from a stand still and force a penalty. I will say i believe Cahill was lucky not to see red for his challenge on Sanchez in the 1st half, but for me we were well in control.

We sat a little deeper in the 2nd half and it seemed as if Oscar made up a 3 in midfield and as soon as Mikel came on (he was brilliant as i knew he would be) we all knew it was lockdown time. I was very impressed with Fabregas's and Oscar's defensive performance today, winning and blocking balls all over the pitch. Costa may have seemed a little quiet today but he was pressing Arsenal to play it quicker and shows how clinical he is, one sublime Fabregas ball and he finishes with ease. 9 in 7 this season we really do have the best striker in the game right now i have no doubts about that.

I felt Hazard was brilliant today but although i personally would have given the man of the match to Oscar the fact Fabregas got it........ against Arsenal........... hello wound here's some salt!!!!! 5 points clear and a 2 week break, and work later where there will be 2 Arsenal fans, i'm a happy man!

Fingers crossed for Courtois of course.

Wenger bringing out the old 'money' argument again

Oh wait, Chelsea have less net spend than Arsenal last summer. Actually Arsenal spend more on wages than Chelsea now. Awkward

Just upset his two big money signings Ozil and Sanchez went missing

Least Sanchez puts in a shift. Think was a good buy by Arsenal. Ozil just goes missing in nearly all big games, never wants to do the ugly stuff like Oscar for you guys or Di Maria for us today. Think he wishes was still in Madrid tbh.
