Does Jose know that chelsea have an academy? Mickey mouse cup against derby and not one academy lad in sight.

Its a quarter final, if Mr Wenger thought more like this then maybe they wouldn't have won nothing for ages. Its a trophy a legitimate one to win and we are so close and have 6 days until our next fixture so why not play a strong side?

I know chelsea fans aren't use to it since most here are probably only from the roman/jose era, but it's great watching homegrown academy lads make it into the first team and feature in any game.

Actually 5 youth lads and Kalas have made their debuts since the beginning of last season, don't worry about us.

We have recently watched Baker, Ake, John Swift, Andreas Christensen, Solanke and Loftus-Cheek make first team appearances. Hardly starving the youth team of first team chances in the cups/unimportant fixtures.

I know you're not being serious but I'm actually rather fond of that joke. When people say it, I can write them off as being morons.

Bertrand Traore scored 2 goals against Ajax yesterday. Glad some of the loaned players are getting time to play.

JT comparing Matic to Makelele ... Not quite at that level yet but still a fair comparison. I genuinely struggle to think of a better defensive midfielder than Matic in Europe atm. He has got all the tools in the box. Small wonder we lost against Newcastle when he was suspended

Macherano, Martinez, Busquets, Lahm?...

Mascherano nowhere near as well-rounded as Matic and neither is Martinez. Can't comment on Lahm although the fact that he plays for Bayern in a league that is essentially a one-team league makes me give Matic the benefit of doubt. Busquets in with a good shout but in the form Matic is in, incredible really

Not to mention that players (Fabregas, Azpilicueta etc.) who have played alongside both Busquets and Matic have rated Matic higher. Example: Azpilicueta selected Matic and not Busquets in his best XI

Lol wut. Are you actually watching any other football that isn't Chelsea?

Martinez is VERY well-rounded and versatile, which is why he's beeing bounced all over the pitch by every manager.

And if you'd actually seen Masch play for Argetina, you'd know he's not just break-up play and pass to the nearest teammate kind of guy. In national team he is actually their deep lying playmaker, and he's pretty ******* good at it. Not Alonso or Xavi good, but pretty good nonetheless.

Macherano might not be as rounded as Matic, but he's far from one trick pony. And even with that said, he's better than Matic as defensive midfielder. Matic is more flexible though and fits more systems. Martinez was best defensive midfielder before his injury. Matic came nothing near close to his form, and that tells you how good Martinez was. We'll see if he can replicate his form. You can't comment on Lahm? Have you seen him playing for Germany? Have you seen him playing in CL in past 3 seasons? Busquets is for me best defensive midfielder in the world, he's simply complete and his decisions are on the next level. It's hard to say who's the best, every one will have his favorite. This is my opinion, your is different. It doesn't make me right, you wrong and vice versa.

Oh, I wouldn't trust footballers that much, especially when they are picking players from their current club.

Never said Mascherano is a one-trick pony. I simply said he isn't as well-rounded as Matic. Sure he is superb in breaking up opposition play but I still would pick Matic over him any day because of the flexibility and all-round skills he has which is something you admitted as well. Martinez may have looked superb in the Bundesliga where the gap between Bayern and the rest of the clubs is simply huge. Also I mentioned that on current form, I struggle to think of a better DM than Matic so Martinez may well have been god-like previously but that isn't counting for much now. Lahm admittedly I haven't paid attention to. Busquets is fantastic yes and that's why, he is the only one who makes me slightly hesitant. Back to my original point, in current form in the EPL which is by far the most competitive league out of the big 5/6, Matic is the best DM for me. He is the reason why everyone thought we could go unbeaten and his absence possibly cost us the game against Newcastle

As you said, you have your opinion and I have mine. At least in the EPL, only Yaya is in the same league in terms of all-round midfield game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Matic win PFA POTY if Chelsea win the league. Such has been his impact

Brilliant counter argument. Fascinating analysis and reasoning backed up with evidence. Wow

Yeah because your "guys, I think this guy is better then that guy" argument was so thoughtful and deeply insightful.

Next fixture Stoke City ( A ) on 22/12/14 @20:00 on SkySports.

Our last result away at Stoke 07/12/2013: Stoke (Crouch, Ireland, Assaidi) 3-2 (Schurrle x2) Chelsea.

Our biggest win away at Stoke 12/01/2013: Stoke 0-4 (Walters og x2, Lampard, Hazard) Chelsea.

Our biggest defeat away at Stoke 04/02/1939: Stoke 6-1 (**** Spence) Chelsea.
...AND...
15/02/1947: Stoke 6-1 (Alex Machin) Chelsea.

Chelsea's away league record this season: P-8, W-4, D-3, L-1, F-16, A-10.
Stoke's home league record this season: P-7, W-3, D-1, L-3, F-9, A-9.

Our record away vs Stoke (all comps): Played-45, Won-17, Drawn-10, Lost-19, For-54, Against-67.

My stats of the game: Chelsea have only lost once to Stoke since they got promoted to the Premier League in all competitions home and away (P-14, W-11, D-2, L-1, F-30 A-6).

In them 14 meetings Chelsea managed to keep 10 clean sheets.

Mark Hughes has won 2 and lost none of his last 4 as a manager in home matches vs Chelsea.

STAT OF THE WEEK: Chelsea have lost only 1 of their last 19 Premier League games played on a Monday (W-11, D-7, L-1).

Remember the last loss against Stoke. Very painful. Thought we had the game in the bag after Schurrle scored a brace and we let it slip. Hopefully we can pick up the points now. City right on our heels

Those stupid dropped points against the Manchester clubs really biting us in the *** now. I can understand drawing against City because they played brilliantly towards the end even with 10 men. Dropping points against United was just plain and utter stupidity (Ivanovic getting red carded, not defending a corner properly etc.)

Martinez was one of the best midfielders in Spain and he was one of the most important midfielders in Jupps winning spree season.
Anyway, fair enough with your reasons, we all have our favorites. Some of us still think Anderson is an amazing player.

I have been saying for quite some time now that Matic is Chelsea's most important player, its no coincidence the only game we have lost this season he was not part of. I think he is the most rounded player of his type, plays in what i consider to be the most competitive top league in the world and he stands out week in week out.
