And then there's also the fact that PSG have Nene, Menez, bidding for Ganso and possibly Taarabt. I mean obviously Pastore will get in the team, but how do they plan on playing all of these attacking options they are bidding for? They aren't going to be short of strikers either with the current strikers and possibly Gilardino joining.

Menez will be RW and Nene will be LW.

edit: And if they get Pastore they won't be in for Ganso anymore. Also, QPR said Taarabt won't be going.

Mads-When Essiens fit and Benayoun wont slot into my idea of a World Class midfield, and he's injury prone. Talented player with wonderful technique but IMO not World Class. Still think we need 2 new wingers, anyone that says the current squad is good enough seems to blame Carlo... I blame the players for last season not the manager. Alot of players went hiding and without a doubt the squad needs quite alot of new younger blood up front/mid. Just my opinion...

Benayoun is a good player to have; can play cm, am, wing, but definitely not world-class, but he will be an important player if he stays fit to play as rotation.

benayoun is a decent player, his passing is good and movement.

Menez will be RW and Nene will be LW.

I'd say the other way around, actually, but even so front three; Nene, Menez, Gameiro, Hoarau, and I'm not sure what's happening with Luyindula, Erding possibly going out and maybe even Anelka or Berbatov coming in. Then midfield; Pastore, Ganso, Sissoko, Chantome, Bodmer and Matuidi - how are they going to fit all of them in to a formation? And I'm sure I've even missed out a few.

GK: Douchez (signed from Rennes)
RB: Jallet
CB: Sakho
CB: Armand
LB: Tiene
CDM/CM: Bodmer
CDM/CM: Matuidi
CM/CAM: Pastore
LW: Nenê (don't see why they would change his position since he was the best in Ligue 1 last season from there).
RW: Menez
ST Gameiro

Or, if they want to use Hoarau I think they will drop Chantome and Bodmer and use Pastore and Matuidi centrally.

I'm not saying they need to change Nene to RW, but I think they will play him RW or rotate LW and RW because I think they will thrive cutting in onto their favoured foot.

Yes, that would be a good team, but as I said; what if they get all their targets though? Ganso, Sissoko, Gilardino, maybe Anelka or Berbatov?

I think they bid for all these people to cove any fail bids. If/when they get Pastore I expect them to forget about Ganso etc.

I feel Benayoun could play a major role for Chelsea this season.

AVB Pleased with Lampard

Chelsea's new manager Andre Villas-Boas was pleased with what he saw from Frank Lampard as a holding midfielder against Kitchee. The Blues' preparations for the new Premier League season continued on Wednesday with a 4-0 success over the Hong Kong club in the Asia Cup. However, Lampard was deployed in a more unusual defensive role, rather than the box-to-box position he has adopted throughout his career. Villas-Boas is not expected to utilise the England international regularly in the role, however, he is pleased to know the 33-year-old is competent if required.

"Frank has the ability to play in that role and it is good that he feels so well in that position and gives us that flexibility," explained Villas-Boas. "I am glad we were able to test him this pre-season in this structure.

"Frank is one of the best players in the world and he has the flexibility to play in many positions: in a number eight position, a number 10 position or a holding position. "We have seen throughout his career that he has the ability so it is nothing new that we were trying today, and it does not mean that we are going to use it to the fullness. "We are just happy to see that the players are able to play in various positions."

This is exacly what i said weeks if not months ago that i could see Lampard playing a more defensive role controling the game.

If they get Pastore obviously they won't be in for Ganso. I doubt they'll get a new striker without selling too.

I have no attachment to Bath City whatsoever... and it was just a cheeky wee thing i saw...

Then why in the world does your profile say you support Bath? Is it the other team that happens to be called Bath you support?

I think some are to cover for other bids failing, but its a very shotgun approach. Also since I assume they will push for a tilt at the title, FFP? Would love to see their figures

Oh I can see how they're gonna solve it... "PSG are proud to announce they have struck a partnership deal with [insert arab company name], that will see the stadium renamed to Parc des Sheiks in exchange for 30 pieces of silver..."

Wow, one could be mistaken that this is a PSG discussion thread... :P

Anyway im hoping Villa Boas does well this season and wins the PL. As a reds fan I know we wont challenge this year and I'd rather see Chelsea win than United :)

Isn't it a bit of a stretch, comparing the Parc des Princes to, uh, Judas? ;)

dont know why everyone thinks Pastore is off to PSG, as far as I know we can offer him good wages, good first team opportunities, CL football, world-class teammates and a better quality league to play in

PSG are offering the better price, and all evidence indicates they are in the lead with the signing

what evidence? there is no plausible reason for him to move there and as far as I am concerned I am pretty sure we will offer him good money too, so he must be massivley greedy to stonewall his career and move to PSG for extra money

Read the last two pages. PSG are up and coming and pushing for a title tilt. Hardly going to stonewall his career, they are building a very strong side in a bid to return to CL
