Made me laugh earlier when i was watching the weekend review on Chelsea TV. They phoned up Gulliam Ballague and spoke to him about Mata etc and Ben Andrews asked him what type of player are we getting a number 7, 8 or 10 and Ballague's answer.... Abit of all of them.

Another question from Andrews was i have seen the lad and he is slight, how will he cope with the physical side of the English game and Ballague answered. Mata dosent have a physical side but he has something alot of players dosen't have and thats a brain, he is a very smart footballer and will outwit/outthink other players.

For a player who is an excellent dribbler he doesnt like to beat players on the ball, like the best wingers he will lay the ball off with intelligent passing, move off the ball, and then pick it in the dangerous final third to run shoot pass. Think classic Giggs and thats the kind of player you are getting

Lol but of course, makes a better headline story. But in truth, he should have been an Arsenal player.

He should be and there is no real excuse for it, couldnt they have got him for around 13million when they were reportedly intrested? On Eurosports news headline about this story the other day i saw an Arsenal fan write something like "He is going to Chelsea because he isen't that good and we (Arsenal) dont need him because he isen't better than any of the players we already have in that position"

Mata is earning 2.6m pounds a year.

After tax...

Not extortionately high but it's a hike on what he earned at Valencia.

Also apparently Mata was devastated after Arsenal didn't complete a deal with Valencia, he really did want to go to Arsenal.

Another one Wenger has let get away, and if he says this isn't anything to do with money it's absurd.

The fee for Mata minus international bonuses is around £28m, that is value for money especially given his age and potential.

I would love to hear Arsene's excuse on this one, player wanted Arsenal...The price was set...Arsenal pull out.

It really is that cut and dry, Arsenal fans should probably avoid reading that. His first choice was Arsenal but when they couldn't agree a deal with Valencia he was deflated. Chelsea essentially came in after talking to his dad post Euro's 2 months ago, enquired+bid+spoke to Mata and the deal was done in 5 days.

Wenger has no excuse for me on this one, none at all. And I normally understand/defend him, not in this case.

Couldnt put it any better, Arsenal blew it big time.

From what ive seen of him thats who he reminds me ov abit. Giggs is a good winger but does alot of his good work inside just behind the forward picking out key goalscoring passes for his teammates.

they cant use wages as an excuse becuase its not like you are paying him a fortune.I'm a United fan and I'm annoyed. I'd blow my top if I was a Gunner

Yer it just dosen't make sence, this is a man who seems like he passionatly wanted to play in England and with Arsenal as his first choice and wouldnt cost that much if you compare the talent he already has and potential and they didnt take him. Very strange indeed and i'd love to hear Wengers reasoning on this. Maybe the Gervinho deal could that have swayed his mind??

It shouldn't have, since Arsenal need to strengthen. I just cant find any excuse/reasoning on this. I think something happened at the boardroom level because Wenger wanted him

Gervinho was already set in stone early on in the summer.

Mata's salary is around £5.2m per year before tax, that's just outside the 80-90k bracket Arsenal have but I'm sure he would have accepted a contract of 70-80k per week.

Irony is that Arsenal could have signed him for maybe £21m 3 weeks ago and now Chelsea have just came in paid what Valencia asked and got a top quality player. Wenger has baffled me on this one I have to say.

£21m=£6-7m more than Chamberlain. (THAT sticks in my throat and I'm not an Arsenal fan)

wow...

@aphillip14Adam Phillip

But in other twitter news Romelu spent the weekend with his mother in Belgium and had a lovely roast dinner.

Balances out ^ bad news to be honest...

Real Mexican U-20 star was Guarch, would have loved him.

Looks set for Roma/Palermo at the minute but he's the real Mexican star.

I forgot Romelu could speak Spanish, another person that will be able to help Romeu out.
