John Terry is still going, of course he is, but I can't see him lasting another 20 months.

He's on his way to being at an age where he is no longer good enough to be in this Chelsea team, that is genuinely no slant on Terry or Lampard but teams move on and the way Chelsea is set up doesn't suit 2 30+ year olds in the team.

Luiz wise, everyone says he needs to be made a defensive midfielder but I can't remember AVB trying it once so far.

I'm on the side of the fence that says he needs some control and restraint because as he proved vs Valencia he is an excellent defensive player. If he's the future CB of Chelsea then great and everyone should pull him in that direction, if it's defensive midfield then that needs to happen pretty soon because he's coming into his prime.

The itching thing about this season so far, for me, is 'what would have been different had Essien been there' because him and Ramires in my opinion has the potential to be the base of Chelsea's midfield (4-2-3-1) for the next few years.

I think Chelsea moving for De Bruyne in January is a pretty much a guarantee and that will leave Mata in the hole with Mata/Sturridge wide I would guess unless another wideman is signed.

That improves the current system, despite Lampard not being there, simply because it does free up Mata and it will give him another runner to work off.

Dicked. On.

Incredible game, and an amazing win against the odds. So typical of us to go behind after we've missed two great chances to go into the lead but not so typical of us in recent years to stage such an awesome come-back and show that kind of team-spirit. The reaction of the players at the end was truly superb, and now I'm running out of superlatives so I'll simply say that today - for me - proved two things:

a) Robin van Persie is one of the best strikers in the world, never mind the Premier League at the moment. He didn't play all that well, and yet he still scored 3 excellent goals; particularly the third one.

b) We're not a one-man team. Van Persie, other than his goals, was actually off-form today - his touch was often poor, he missed a great chance at 0-0 and he wasn't as heavily involved as he usually is. But the rest of the team stepped up their game - Gervinho was superb, as was Walcott... Ramsey and Arteta were at their creative best and even Andre Santos got himself on the score sheet.

Van Persie may get the goals, and the plaudits, but that was a team performance.

You do realise this is the Chelsea thread, right? I don't want to sound rude (or bitter, which I am...a little bit), but surely this post belongs in the match thread or the Arsenal thread, no? Just seems like you posted that in here to rub our faces in it.

Surely I'm not the only one disappointed with Cech? The Santos goal going through his legs, and beaten twice in his near post. (Granted for the 5th, he thought RVP was going to go across him)

+ The two Sturridge ****-ups. :'(

Cech had an absolute howler I agree, if he keeps that up Courtois will be in the team sooner rather than later because a couple of them were essentially straight at him.

All of the goals he was sprawling/doing jumping jacks but I agree, a couple of the goals made him look a little suspect to say the least.

Here's a question - Does anyone remember Cech ever conceding 5 goals?

If so, when?

Interested to know that's all I'm fairly sure it's never happened.

The highest number of goals, up to today, has been 4 and that was to Liverpool I believe.

Another milestone for the day, fair play to Arsenal they exposed Chelsea's weaknesses and made Cech look a fool which not a lot of teams have managed in the past 6/7 years.

Yeah I can't remember it either.

But, TBH Cech has played well this season despite our failure to keep clean sheets, so we shouldn't jump on his back too much for a bad game.

If De Bruyne comes then I very much doubt he will be anywhere near the first-team yet, he is still very raw which we all say when we played Genk...

Tbh AVB needs to do a tactical overhaul, the 4-3-3 does not our players in the long-term and say what u want but a 4-2-3-1 will be much more suited towards our 2 best attacking players in Torres and Mata, a new winger is a must and why dont we go for someone like Gotze, he can play anywhere in the 3 in the 4-2-3-1 giving us lots of options and he gives us so much more creativity and unpredicatability in the final third... we really need to realease all the deadwood of Malouda, Kalou etc. I would really like the comfort of knowing that when things are not going well for us in a match then we have better players to call from the bench

Its not AVB's fault, he just has the wrong players to work with and I hope we can hang onto 3rd place until Jan before we make our signings, we need to spend and we have to subsidize the costs of expensive players by selling our deadwood... defensivelt we need a new RB who can challenge Bosingwa, Vitor Gomez would do nicely

Plus if Alex is hardly playing then we can move him on for a decent fee and get a young prospect like Diego Godin in

Agreed with all apart from that last one, that one swung like a sonofabitch. Hard for him to read that one: if it'd stayed straight he'd have beaten it away.

How I wish you were still here to guide the team :'(....

1) You've made me watch that goal at least 5 more times. :'(

I agree it "swung", but you could tell Cech was disappointed when that went in with his reaction afterwards.

Possibly. I dunno, I'm not a keeper, it just looked to me like Cech had moved his hands to the spot where, had it not bent, he could've parried it. Still, not arguing it wasn't his finest performance.

I'm thinking he thought it was going across goal, so he wasn't prepared when it would of gone straight at him had he of not moved.

This performance reminds me of an article where our goalkeeping coach said Cech doesn't have many years left at the top. :(

Courtois said the same thing... their is certainly a major upheavel at Bridge going on, but i think if we keep AVB at the helm then we are going to end up for the better in 3-4 years
