I'll get slated for this but here goes..

I think Di Matteo will and should get the job end of season, if he keeps these results going of course. Giving him the job would take a lot of pressure away from the board if they don't have to go out and find the next Mourinho, instead giving it to someone the fans love (as a player, not yet as a manager imo) and the players obviously respect (ignoring the paper talk). This would also mean doing something we've never done before, giving the caretaker full control.
IF he ends up being sacked then it won't come as much of a shock but at least it will be at relatively low cost this time due to not poaching him from another club also if he negotiates a decent contract.
I'm not agreeing with sacking a manger every year by the way, just thinking hypothetically. Most of what I said could be untrue but just from my point of view.

Despite our poor form throughout the season, we are actually in a very promising position. Obviously apart from challenging for the title but in all other competitions we've done very well. In my opinion it would be wrong to get rid of RDM if he gets top 4 and/or gets to the semi final of the Champions League and the final of the FA Cup.

I just can't think of a manager who is less of a risk than RDM with our current situation, everyone wants Jose (somewhat including me) but he'd be the biggest risk of them all if he didn't perform. Most other managers mentioned have pretty much the same experience as AVB albeit a couple of seasons which I suppose you could argue is a lot in football.
I don't really know too much about the managers linked with us apart from your obvious Sven's Cappello's Mourinho's etc. though so I can't really comment.

The main worry would be if he decided to be on of 'those' managers and buy the West Brom squad :P

As i said after his first game it Birmingham the more games he wins and the more he impresses in interviews etc the bigger chance he has of getting this job.

Losing a year of CL football and gaining a year of transition is more beneficial than gaining a year of CL and losing a year of transition.

It both can happen if the manager makes the right calls the right way.

Losing a year of CL football and gaining a year of transition is more beneficial than gaining a year of CL and losing a year of transition.

Do you know what losing a year of CL football will mean for this club? I have mentioned it several times but will do so again I guess...

1. Our Finances will take a major hit and with the FFP rules on the horizon, we can ill-afford to have something like that happen considering our finances are dire at the best of times anyways. Plus Roman wants actual stability in this club, not the sort of artificial stability Manchester City are enjoying. So a Year of CL football goes a long way in helping us progress.

Our dependence on CL football is no doubt borne due to Roman's short-sightedness but thats the way it is and we have to live with it.

2. As I mentioned some time back, we have a group of players who are no longer good enough to challenge for trophies while we have another group of undoubtedly talented young guns who are not yet ready for PLM football. In order to fill this gap, we will have to spend in the summer so as to bring in quality players such as Hazard and Willian so that at the very least, we can finish in the top 4 comfortably.

Without CL football, our ability to attract such players severely diminishes. Yes not every player is attracted by CL football but it is definitely a major factor to consider when a player is deciding which club to go to. Without CL football to offer, we will have to go back to the intitial strategy of the Roman Era by offering massive wages etc. something which nobody at the club wants.

One only has to take a look at Liverpool. Everyone thought that being out of the CL will be good for them so that they can get their club in order and buy quality players. But they could not hope to pursue their interest in players such as Mata especially after clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal got interested. For the simple reason that both Chelsea and Arsenal could offer CL football.

And now Liverpool have basically no chance of finishing in a CL spot especially if their league form continues as it has been. This is what losing a year of CL Football and gaining a year of transition did to them.

And lets not forget, this is a Chelsea squad who very nearly won the title last season. AVB could have certainly made us finish 4th and gain a year of transition at the same time. He lost the dressing room which is by no means solely his fault. What is his fault however was playing Barcelona-esque football at this club when we never had the right players to do it. Now under RDM when we have finally gone back to what we know, we have gotten 4 straight wins.

Also lets not forget that AVB had the lowest win percentage of any Chelsea manager.

I would like to stress that the club made mistakes as well during this period of time. But AVB made mistakes too and most of you are overlooking that and blaming Chelsea and the Senior players; jumping on the media bandwagon.

Also would like to say that AVB would have done wonders if he was given more time in my opinion, its a real shame that until now we have not had the sort of stability the fans and players deserve

Most people acknowledged he made mistakes, they are just critical of the lack of support he got from above, and the very short term thinking of the club. Roman lambasted the players the day after he fired AVB. He should have put the players in their places in December. Either you give him that time, or you just dont hire him in the first place.

Agree with you on completely Maybe its just me but it seems as if the media has again jumped onto Roman and the Senior players for the sacking of AVB, thus my previous posts

There were times that AVB needed a reaffirmation of the support the club hierachy had in him when we were on a poor run of form, he did not get it.

At the end of the day, I think Owen Coyle hits the nail in the head when he says that Chelsea panicked after seeing that they may not get CL football next season and thus sacked AVB.

And Roman also got blindsided with his court case, if he was more involved from the start then their is a chance that AVB would still be at the helm.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NANDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we love you mate! keep working hard!

It depends. in our case its not. and why would we want to drop out of the top 4 in order to make that transition? We cant sacrifice either of both, CL football and refreshment of the team. So we need a manager who can make that refreshment without losing CL football AND a patient owner, apparently.

Di Matteo is doing okay so far, no doubt about that, but is it solving the problem that Chelsea need to go through a transition, which AVB was starting to do, but I do not think Di Matteo is continuing with it, he just wants results to impress Roman.

Di Matteo has a long highway ahead, as he always likes to say: game by game. see the irony? AVB was always talking about how he would be backed in the summer and he would be given a chance to build his own team, whereas RDM thinks only for the next game and no further. That was the huge mistake AVB made. However, I dont think RDM will be our next permanent manager.

I think it will be Benitez...

AVB said that because Roman probably backed him at the time, AVB was planning to change and adapt Chelsea to bring new/younger players through, unfortunately it seems Chelsea fans are more interested in the results NOW rather than what might actually happen if you do not go through some changes, Di Matteo winning a few games is not the answer. AVB knew that to take Chelsea through this transition you would have to forfeit some results here and there this season and probably the next as well. But at least by next season he would of had some time to get the squad to how he thought would be best.

Read my massive post on the previous page, we were prepared to forfeit results however not at the cost of CL football which is absolutely essential.

And we do not really need to go through a year of transition. We just need a summer to sell off a lot of our deadwood and bring in new players. More a total overhaul of the squad in a short period of time rather than a year of transition where the young players take up the mantle

hopefully..

I doubt Torres will even start the game tomorrow at Man City, Di Matteo will play it the safe route and start with Drogba.

This isnt FM. apart from just how unrealistic an approach that is, its also far more chaotic than a gradual transtition. Young players dont just suddenly take over the mantle. They require time. New players require time. There is a reason Klopp, SAF, Wenger et al never did this. It's a terrible idea.

I would start Drogba as well, but Torres can still be a part of that game.

the safest way (at the moment) is to sell the players we dont need, and bring in new players. Obviously it depends on who our next manager is, if its someone experienced like (underline like, because I'd never want Wenger.. I'd rather choke to death with bollocks) Klopp/Wenger/Benitez, I'd take that year or two of transition as long as we keep being in the top 4, even though we dont win a thing.

at the moment Klopp is maybe the perfect man to make that transition and refresh the squad competely. But he is out of reach tbh.

By sacking Carlo, you have turned the club into a bad option for "tier 1" Managers as Subtle put it. By sacking AVB you have put off young upcoming and hungry managers.
