Messi has more than one player providing the balls to him, Iniesta does it from time to time. This is why Messi is so hard to stop, more than one top provider. Chelsea to win in first leg for me but second leg we'll probably fall to the might of Barca. That's why we need a good home lead.

I agree but whenever I have watched Modric he has failed to impress me, I don't think it is about being flashy. I want another player like Mata at Chelsea, creative, decision making spot on and I would like the a player with the consistency that Mata has too.

I think Mata and someone more deel lying is what is needed. Like i said before McEachran has all the tools to be that player but he needs to be given a ******* chance!!!

If the Chelsea management had the same opinions as you you'll be swimming up **** creek without a paddle next season.

Why do you want 2 Mata's? Sneijder plays in Mata's position, so not sure why you want him either. Neither of those players play in CM which is where Modric plays, so you'd be happy blowing 40m filling positions only to leave you STILL needing a CM, rather than spending £40m on Modric.

Modric is one of the most consistent players in the league. Every you just said about decision making and creativity is exactly what Modric excels that. Except that Chelsea need that deeper in pitch. Rofl at want Sneidjer when one he is an AMC, two he is massively injury prone, three, he would cost the same fee, and twice as much in wages, four, he hasnt been very good this season, nowhere near his own standards.

Iniesta tends to pop up in more advanced positions now days.

For me Modric is a good player but no where near Xavi, can't believe you have mentioned him with them. What did he do against Chelsea on the weekend? He was trash. Modric doesn't relish in the big games, if he does it happens rarely.

If you'd read what he said, Mike. isn't comparing Modric to Xavi in a direct sense of ability, just playstyles.

As for 'Modric can't hack it in the big games', let's have a look. Chronologically:

He was pretty average in Spurs' 1-5 loss to Man City, but ran the game and scored in their 4-0 destruction of Liverpool. He then did excellently when Spurs won 2-1 in the North London Derby, before a Spurs went on a run of easier games. He also ran the game for them against Chelsea in the 1-1 home draw, and did very well during their 2-0 defeat of Everton. He again didn't do brilliantly against City as they beat Spurs 2-1, but was also one of Spurs' better players. Tottenham's 0-0 draw with 'Pool masked another good performance, before he admittedly didn't do well as Arsenal took revenge in a 5-2 win. He went right back into form against United in the 3-1 loss, putting in a great midfield display before putting in one of his displays of the season against Chelsea away. Finally, in the FA Cup, he had an average game.

I make that four bad games against top teams.

And although yes Xavi is in a different league to Modric the way we stopped Modric on Sunday gives me encouragement going into tomorrows game.

I'm just saying whenver I watch Tottenham, Modric is poor. So doesn't have the best consistency but I'm sure when he plays well he's a top, top player. So to let you all know I'm not disrespecting Modric in any way I'm just saying whenever I have watched him he has failed to impress me this is why he is not a player worth that 40m if he isn't consistent enough or doesn't relish in the big games.

Who helps supply Iniesta when he moves up the pitch? Xavi. Messi has more than one provider. But the most important one is Xavi, he pulls the strings for the entire side, not just Messi.

a) You've already demonstrated you're clueless to Modric's role and thus what defines a good and bad performance for him.
b) He's managed by Redknapp, who in his infinite wisdom keeps sticking him on the wing where he's far less effective.
c) How often do you actually watch him play?

I was a big fan of Kaka and was excited of the prospect of him coming to Chelsea before Madrid took him, should have took Kaka long time a go.

Redknapp was not the man playing but like i said the difference between Modric and Xavi in terms of ability is huge. We will have to set up the way we did against Spurs but still play even better to stand any chance of getting a positive result.

As I said I only watch Tottenham whenever they are on T.V which is usually against top teams and this is when he has failed to impress me. So don't even think about me disrespecting his skill in any way, I'm judging my opinion on him by when I've watched him. Not by ****** stats.

Again, Kaka is not even a CM! Much like Sneijder, he plays behind the striker. Moreover, why are you bringing up Kaka from about three years ago? Chelsea were a different team, Kaka was a different player.

So, name me one CM - and I mean actual ******* central midfield regista, not a second striker like Sneijder or Kaka - that both costs less and performs better than Modric. Name me just one.

Name me 5 Central mids (other that the ones in my list) who are as good/better as Modric and are available for less than 40m.

So you'd rather keep your flawed opinion over something as completely irrefutably FACTUAL as stats? Explains why your views make no sense. By the sounds of it, he'd need to make an assist every game and do a million stepovers to be able to impress you.

Also, what top teams did he play badly against? Once against you, once against Arsenal, twice against City. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

It's also worth noting that Messi is also a provider. Was Barca's leading assist last season and leads the assists charts for Barcelona this season. So if you stop Xavi & Iniesta playing, chances are you will have Messi to be the provider. Dani Alves is key also, he is second behind Messi in assists.
