And thus we have the crux of the debate.

I'm unsure... I'd need to watch McEachran more closely and know much more about him to be able to make a decision. If I were Di Matteo, I'd have access to information such as reports by scouts and staff assessors to be able to properly gauge his talent. As it is, I don't, so I'd be unwilling to take the risk, personally. I'd rather spend £40 mil on Modric in order to make SURE I have a quality regista rather than risk McEachran. But, he may be very talented and able to cope with the spotlight, and save Chelsea the money. It's an interesting little question.

Roman doesnt like risks though, and its not a brainer for him. he'd spend the 40m in a heartbeat.

McEachran could well be the collateral of years of mis-management at Chelsea, which would be a terrible shame.

I will be so ****** off if he dosen't make it as a Chelsea player. I think he needed a loan deal but i don't think it has helped him not playing. He would have probably played more at Chelsea since Di Matteo has taken over which is a shame. Next season is going to be key for him, if we get rid of Meireles and replace him with Josh so he will get more game time then he can succeed without a doubt.

I'll be honest that Ancelotti seemed unsure what position McEachran was best suited for he played him DM, CM, LM and AM but for me his best performances for first team/International/reserves and youth team all came when he was playing from deep. The amount of through balls he created for strikers/wingers to put them through one on one was staggering.

Certainly agree. Whenever I've seen him play, he's looked extremely calm, and like he has an age with which to pick a pass. There's a maturity beyond his years in him, I think, and he's a more natural deeper player than, say, Jack Wilshere even. Whereas Wilshere's a quicker thinker, able to deal with heavy pressure instantly, McEachran strikes me as someone who's a better long passer and has a better reading of the game from deep.

I think so too. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course.

For a good analogy, take a look at United with and without Scholes this season. That's the difference between having, and not having a player in his mould.

Yeah without a doubt they are two key players for the team. However, as I said I think there's more to Barca than just Xavi pulling the strings. It's like Man Utd have more players than just Scholes, Scholes is a very, very clever player for Man Utd but again there's more players who can pull the strings for them than just him, I mean they proved this last season.

I know what you both are getting at and they are two very good points but the best teams have more than one player who can pull strings in a team.

Couple of things i'd like to add.

- Modric, as fantastic a player as he is, hasn't been at the races for a while now. If you compare his performances to last season, he's playing well below his best. This could be for several reasons though: He wants to go, he's been played out of position on the left a lot, Redknapp keeps getting his tactics wrong, Bales not playing on the left and drifting around everywhere etc...

He's drifting through games just doing the basics, which is still relatively good, but nowhere near as good as we've seen him be, and its very annoying.

If you play him in a midfield three with 2 holding players (Sandro+Parker) then you'd no doubt see him shine again as he would be free to dictate games without the defensive responsibilities.

- Another thing, whys he valued at 40m? We rejected 40m last summer, who's to say we'll sell at that now?

I remember this particular game (how could I forget it?) against Newcasle in the Carling Cup when he came off the bench to inspire us. His touch is amazing as well as his vision.

United haven't won a game since Scholes' return in which he has been absent.

Barca's form also drops off a cliff relative to their ridiculous standards when Xavi is missing.

Not sure what your definition of 'pulling the strings' is, but you're misusing the term horrifically.

I may be misusing the term, I'm quite tired and feel a bill ill but what I'm trying to get at is Barca have other players than just Xavi who can look for that killer final ball or finding the right pass.

I understand that they are both key players for the team but they have other players who can do what they do though not as good as them.

Anyways, I do think Chelsea will win tomorrow but I do think its vital to win by at least 2 goals because, well, we all know what Barca are capable of at Nou Camp. Good luck tomorrow tonight, and I do hope you win because well, Im British and want a British team in the final :)

We were down to 10men through a big chunk of that game too yet he still bossed it.

McEachran definitely a wonderful talent, i hope chelsea not wasted it. too much young player that leave chelsea..

borini, di santo, matic, kakuta and many other. they have a great talent too.

Exactly. How do you stop Rooney? Stop Scholes. How do you disrupt Messi? Stop Xavi. You stop the man pulling the strings.

Exactly, these players are so under rated in England it is ****** rediculous, especially Modric. This is why Messi is not the same player he is for Barcelona because Argentina do not have a player who pulls the strings however they do have loads of Attacking Mids, which brings me to CFC Callum, he thinks a team with Attacking Mids and no one sitting slightly deeper and pulling the strings for them is the answer. oO)

Edit: All good successful teams have had someone pulling the strings in Midfield, bare that in mind CFC Callum.

Can I just ask.... WHERE THE **** ARE ALL THESE STRINGS!?

Its like a ****** puppet forum on here ;)

Well we should just call them deep lying playmakers but unfortunately some people do not understand what they do in a team, so it has to be said simply :)

Mentioning no names :P

I actually don't agree with this. I believe Chelsea playing on bigger pitches play much better and at the Camp New we will have to break with pace as Barca try and push numbers forward. This would include such players as Ramires, Torres and Sturridge for the 2nd leg. For tonight i would definitely go with Drogba especially after his performance (from his goal onwards, before that he done absolutely **** all) to try and bully them which he has done in the past.

Barcelona weakness is in the air and we all know Drogba is good in the air. For me Drogba is a must play tonight.

I hope the XI consists of:

Cech
Cole Cahill Terry Ivanovic
Lampard Essien
Sturridge Mata Ramires
Drogba

It's almost feels like people are writing off Chelsea to qualify to the final. I have belief that they can do so.

Whoever plays RAM will rip apart Fontas. If we exploit that right wing we will stand a chance of winning at home. Chelsea can't play narrow tonight, it'll be foolish too. We can catch Alves as well, as he is a very attacking.

Think Chelsea might draw tonight, and even ****** a lucky win. Barca could easily overstretch themselves and get hit on the counter attack, happens most times I see them in La Liga. Still think Chelsea will very probably get beat in the Nou Camp, just hope no one starts blaming it on the refs again if they do.

I wonder if Messi will get much closer to breaking Gerd Muller's record of 67 goals in a season, in the games against Chelsea and then in El Classico.

Messi has been nothing against Chelsea the four times I watched him against us. There will be no 'lucky win'. I have confidence tonight after an impressive performance weekend. Nou Camp will be very tough so we need to get a good lead and try not to concede. COME ON CHELSEA!

Messi has moved from 78 goals to 243 from the last time Chelsea played Barcelona.

When Messi played Chelsea last time, he was gearing up for 50 goals per season. Now he is completely different player and plays much more central, drop deeper and moves all over the place.

Barca have upped their pressing game better than it was in 2009 and Chelsea have regressed. I'm not ruling our Chelsea, but the way it has panned out since 2009 it all points to obvious answer.
