I have to say, blowing my gasket on this one. Yes he made a mistake, but he also kept Chelsea in the game while Lampard when utterly awol for the defensive shape. If anyone deserves criticism its the untouchable Lampard. Mikel was easily the better of the two last night.

Come to United Mikel, we actually like play breakers, and unfashionable players.

You seriously would not believe the amount of hatred he has got from Chelsea fans on Facebook groups mate it is staggering. For every backer their is 20-30 haters and the scary thing is I am not exaggerating either. Always saying the same things, he loses the ball too much WRONG. Then he only passes backwards and sideways WRONG. Then well he only passes the ball 5-10 yards!!! The lad cannot win, and it seriously does my head in. Without coming across arrogant i try to say well maybe if you understood what his role in the team actually is you would lay off the lad but they don't. And as you say i have been saying Lampard makes things much worse for Mikel in this system but not one bad word for him or even JT last night who stepped up wrongly.

Terry and Lampard were poor, and their time is up for club and country, especially Lampard, and as long as they are around it will hold Chelsea back.

Pretty sad that Mikel had to delete his twitter over racist abuse received. Also amazing that after all the police action related to twitter recently, people are still stupid enough to do it. But then the people sending the abuse think he's a bad footballer because he can't smash in a ball from 12 yards like super Frank, so what can you expect.

These kindod Chelsea "fans" give us all a bad name and proper **** me off on twitter. According to these ****** Lampard, Terry, Torres and Cech may never be criticised no matter what whist Obi Mikel and Malouda ( also bosingwa and Kalou before they left ) must get the blame for every single thing that goes wrong.

Every club has 'em. So many United fans slate Nani, despite him being our most creative player for the past couple of seasons and player of the year in 2011.

Walcott for Arsenal

Main difference being the fact that Walcott is ****. I mean, Nani both creates and scores goals, and is both pacey and a great dribbler. Mikel is tidy on the ball, is a decent destroyer, has plenty of energy and is quite strong as well. Walcott runs.

To be fair, he's really **** good at it.

Indeed he is. Maybe I went a bit over the top calling him ****, but he's not as underrated as the other two, nor as talented. He's a fairly one-dimensional player, although his skillset is probably unique among the Arsenal squad.

I think they still have a role to play at the club but maybe needs less games. Play Cahill and Luiz together more why not? Back on the Mikel front carrying on with the same argument with the same people they suggested Mikel's role is the same as what Yaya and Fellaini do and they do it better. Really just goes to show they don't understand his role then doesn't it.

The very talented Feroze at it again.

While I believe that Mikel receives undue amounts of criticism compared to other players in our team, I still believe that if the idea is to challenge for trophies immediately then we would be better off buying an upgrade on him

Moutinho would be a good signing. Will fill a number of holes in our midfield. Very complete midfielder.

Also on the Lampard issue, I agree that his time is up. Seems the club realizes it as well and will not renew his contract and the purchase of Oscar also indicates that Lampard will not be here much longer as RDM admitted Oscar was brought in to replace Lamps

Was hugely impressed by his performance. The way he marked Pirlo out of the game and then that brilliant second goal. Definitely going to be a star player for us.

People can say all they want about Neymar leading the Brazil side at the 2014 WC but we all know who is going to be at the heart of things....

There is no need to upgrade Mikel, simply see him for what he is and put a more complete player next to him.

Which we don't have.... Well Ramires can do a job but obviously someone like Moutinho would be much better in all respects in a double pivot or 4-3-3

Then the issue isnt Mikel, but his partner, who shouldnt be Lampard. Not in a 4-2-3-1 anyway.

Marin and Sturridge not going to be available for the Stoke Game. Oscar has recovered from his ankle injury which he suffered against Juventus although I highly doubt he will play a big role vs Stoke

Moses will probably be given his full debut against Stoke as well

I just don't feel Mikel is a elite midfielder that's all... Good player who receives undue criticism but not really on par with say a Carrick.

However, I agree that the more pressing issue is partnering him with the right midfielder in a double pivot. Hopefully RDM invests in one in January.

In hindsight, we definitely did make a mistake in letting both Meireles and Essien go as any of them would have been better than Lampard in a double pivot
