Torres has shirked responsibility before at Chelsea though, I believe Mata has stepped up a few times in his place.

Last season I can remember on a couple of occasions whilst in goal droughts him being offered penalties but refusing and yes it was Mata taking the penalties last season whenever Lamps was not playing.

Is the correct answer. Still, he looked much more confident than before.

Saw his first. Have not seem him score like that (and im talking from the build up to the strike) in a long time, Torres just a few weeks ago wouldn't have got into the position, let alone make that finish. Lets hope it continues.

Harsh to argue that's 'shirking responsibility' when Mata is such a fine penalty taker. I'd take him before Torres too.

Didn't he say he turned one down because it felt like charity?

Mata's penalties were not always fine last season lol I can remember him missing a few I think he missed 3 or 4

Well, that pen looks class, clearly Torres knows what he is doing. I wouldn't read too much into him not taking them earlier.

In case any Chelsea fans don't know our club world cup semi final game will be live on bbc from 10 am next thursday. I will be at college so i will have to record it and try not to find out what the final score was before I am home and able to watch :(.

Goddamnit, it's my office XMas part on Friday :-/

He was definitely offered a penalty when he had the long goal drought, and turned the chance down. To me that is shirking responsibility. In most cases, the forward should be the strongest finisher in the squad, it's his primary job to score goals. I don't like to see a striker turning down that sort of opportunity because it shows a lack of confidence and mental strength imo.

I know this is probably an old fashioned view point, strikers do have a more rounded role in modern football but that's just my viewpoint

Good win against lets be honest a very poor side but at least we won! Moses was brilliant again and is quickly becoming my favourite player. Now to the Torres thing, fantastic finish for the first goal and showed great hunger to take the pen off Luiz and despatched it brilliantly and an overall good performance but..... If we start to see the "real" Torres or close to him then of course i will be happy but angry at him and would love to know why he couldn't do it for other managers for us. On to Japan and we go into it in good form so lets go crown ourselves World Champs and end 2012 on a high because this year should be remembered as an absolutely epic one arguably the best in the history of this club!

Romeu out and Mikel off to ACoN.. Essien, Meireles and McEachran should provide enough cover though!

Well this means buying a midfielder is a definite need this January. I know who I want. Even if it means overpaying slightly...

Turned it down as he saw it as charity. He is an excellent penalty take though.

IMO there's a good chance of you guys getting Moutinho in January. It's either you or Spurs, and I think you need him more than they do.

Might be just me but it's hard to imagine them playing with yet another guy who would get beaten up by 12 year old girl. Its bad enough with 3 dwarves in front (and Torres aint exactly Drogba either)

That's hardly the case, he may not be a big guy but he's strong, he can tackle, he can pass, he's very determined and he's got a decent shot on him. He may not be the complete package but that's as close as it gets right now.

Personally think we are more likely to get him in January as we dont really mind overpaying a bit to get the players we want unlike Spurs where Levy holds reign.

Also Serbian newspapers are saying we have signed Lazar Markovic in addition to Wallace. I have to give it to Emleano. He has brought in some fantastic young prospects to Chelsea such as Courtois, Lukaku and De Bruyne. Hopefully this proves to be another home-run/

Champions of Europe (for now) rolling into town.

Sure, but still wouldnt be my first choice for a team thats badly lacking physical presence. Its already almost like watching Barca, there's someone falling over every 30 seconds.

Before someone says "well it works for Barca , doesn't it?" - well it does, but Barca defends with possession, big difference.

Anyway, rumour is Alonso wants to leave Madrid, so there's solution right there.
