Not a fan of Gomez. Always struck me as a bit of a flat-track bully, and to be he's not exactly a natural striker. A wonderful finisher, yes, a wonderful striker... not so much. Watching the difference between him and one of the greatest natural strikers of our time, Miroslav Klose, playing in the same team was very interesting. Klose held the ball up well, ran channels tirelessly, opened space for others, and stuck away any half-chances. Gomez only did the latter, and even then with much less regularity than Klose.
Chelsea do need a striker who can score, primarily, but Gomez is too far in that direction. There's very few top-level players on this planet who rely pretty much ONLY on their goalscoring and nothing else. Even KJ Huntelaar, poacher par excellence, drops deep and links play as well as brings others into the game with his aerial ability.
