Wandering through the stats again and I noticed 2 that I thought were of real interest.

1. In his 7 appearances, 4(3), Romeu has been dribbled past 12 times. Mikel by contrast has been dribbled past 8 times in his 13 games 9(4). Ashley Cole has been beaten significantly more than either right back, but then you've got to actually be back to be dribbed past I guess, eh Bosingwa?
2. Sturridge has the highest shots to goals ratio in the team at 3.2 SpG.

Yea because hes greedy.. if he had passed the ball several times instead of shooting, we would have scored at least 10 more goals(and Torres would have scored at least 5 of these, sometimes I think they hate each other). Its that greediness that I dont like about him, the winger has to assist/pass more. However, his abilities are not questionable.

I dont want Rodwell. Instead of signing all these cms why not give McEachran more of a chance ffs!

The SpG isn't really an indication of that though, it's more an indication of how his finishing skill isn't quite there yet.

I wouldn't say he's greedy as such, he's just a striker who's been deployed on the wing. His main goal, and the thing he's best at, is running past his man and getting goals.

Mata makes Sturridge look greedy but their roles are so different. Mata is (quite literally) a no.10 deployed out on the wing. He passes a lot more (47 passes per game to Sturridge's 25) and creates a lot more (2.9 Key Passes per game to Sturridge's 1.1) but by dropping out of the frontline/moving to receive the ball and create short passing chances, he also gets a lot less shots in- 19 to Sturridge's 38.

I agree that Sturridge does need to work on the team aspect of his game, but atm we need his goals. Neither of the central strikers is really banging them in and if he played like Mata we'd create more but score a whole less. Meireles and Ramires play a nice jack of all trades role atm, if we lose some of Sturridges goal threat from the flank, one of them would have to be much more aggressive and start finishing the chances the creative wingers create.

Last thing: in the long term plan, Sturridge's role may or may not change depending on whether Mata retains his place on the left and we sign a central playmaker, or whether Mata drops into the hole (assuming we're moving towards a 4-2-3-1) and we get a tricky winger. If its the latter, then yes Sturridge will need to dribble less and pass more but if its the first one then we'll have Mata+playmaker dropping deep/roaming around, so we'll need Sturridge as a counterbalance: as someone a little bit more direct.

the only thing I was trying to say was he MUST pass the ball when a teammate is in clearer position than he is.

Why wouldnt pass the ball (several times) to Torres when Torres is alone against the GK??? but instead - just shoot over the bar?

HOWEVER, his skills, once again, are NOT questionable.

and for the record, i'd rather play him on the wing rather than striker.

Definitely agree, just trying to explain why I think he hasn't been developing that selfless side of his game so far.

Good, it would be a waste of 20m. Excellent as rodwell is, you have Josh McEachran at the club.

I'd assume we would be getting Rodwell in as a jack of all trades player; whereas Josh is a great passer of the ball, he has about as much chance of consistently tackling a premiership players as I do of going 5 rounds with Godzilla. (I imagine he will make a fair number of interceptions as he develops though, he's got a good head on him)

I'm not saying we should get him, but Ramires/Romeu seem like the players he would be challenging for spots rather than McEachran. Why we'd be getting Rodwell in when it's still painfully clear that we lack creativity is beyond me.

Thursday’s game with Spurs may be a good time for Chelsea to revert to pressing; Spurs are without their first choice wingers (robbing them of speed) and Adebayor was caught offsides 8 (not a typo) times yesterday against Sunderland, which presumably would be exacerbated by a high line. I get the feeling AVB won’t want to tinker at the moment and with so many fixtures in such short succession, I don’t blame him.

There isnt a reason for Chelsea buying Rodwell personally, for the all rounder you have the two mentioned already, and why buy extra competition when you are actually in need of creativity?

Since David Luiz's first start back in February, Chelsea concede an average of 0.75 goals per game when he starts. When Luiz does not start, Chelsea concede an average of 1.45 goals per game. In short, Chelsea concede nearly twice as many goals in absence of David Luiz. Read and wheep Mr Neville and Hansen you pair of cockheads!!!!

That doesn't change the fact that inside the box, he is about as composed as a badger sat on a grenade, in space, being shafted by a massive metallic drilldo.

He is a good player, he just.. needs to get a bit more experience and be a bit less clumsy in and around the box. I imagine he will be an awesome player in a year or so, in a similar vein to the way Lucas progressed.

Oh i know he makes the odd mistake and he will learn to cut that out of his game. My comment was mainly because both said he couldnt defend which is quite clearly false if you look at the stats.

Well it doesn't because it all depends on the opposition and who's having a good game etc, stats mean nothing really.

He'll come good in a year or so as said.

Well i remember him playing and scoring against both City and Utd last season so he dosen't just play the so called worser sides.

Also rumours that we will play Rangers in Frank Lampard's testermonial this summer, will be a good game against good friends.
