Admittedly I haven't watched that much of United this season, but he's played what, 10 games this season? And got himself sent off against City. Even if the rest were 'decent' games he's played some 80? games for United in his career and he's been below par. He's not a good tackler, his positioning isn't the best, he's not good at anticipating situations, his heading isn't good... He's a lower mid table defender, at best.

actually 40 of those games were very good, then he nosedived badly, and is now starting to recover some form

City was a horrendous error from him, but before then he'd been looking to be picking his form up. Admittedly, he's not particularly exceptional, but he has come through the academy, is fine with sitting back and coming into the lineup and doing the job when required. I wouldn't necessarily rate Cahill as any better than Evans, I'd prefer Evans, better the devil you know and all that, especially with Cahill's rumoured wage/demands.

That's the only bad game he had, rest all he was good. Much better than Cahill. And if you had watched Evans in his first 2 seasons then you would have known he was not below par. He was average for 18 months before and after that he did well. And apart from heading part you are wrong on everything. He is a good tackler, his positioning is good not great but good. He reads the game well that's one of the reason he is getting forward many times this season. Breaking up play and bombing forward.

Edit: Not to forget in his debut season he was one of our mainstays in our run of record number of clean sheets. Even this season he has around 8 clean sheets out of 13. And he struggles against physically beast strikers, strangely he kept Ibra and Drogba in his back pocket on his debut season. (Drogba maybe in second season).

Well you started with you haven't watched much of United, then no point in continuing this.

He was **** against Norwich as well, that's at least two games.

And Evans, a good tackler? Really? Ask Holden how good a tackler Evans is. Or didier Drogba's chest, for that matter... He's good at reading the game and good at getting forward? SERIOUSLY? Breaking up play? If by play you mean your oppositions limbs then I might agree, apart from that... well, no, not really.

I think you're pushing it with 40, but as I said, on his day he can be good but IMO those days are few and far between (29th of February!). The rest of the time he screws up some way or another.

I'm not saying you should buy Cahill and ditch Evans, Evans is only a backup player (fortunately for you) and Cahill would probably be backup as well, there's no point in you buuying him. I'm saying that I, as a neutral, would pick Cahill over Evans every time if I had the choice between those two.

I wasn't saying we should have got Cahill, just that since the debate was centred on Cahill, referenced him.

.

Really? So De Jong is not a good tackler? Terry? Vidic? Roy Keane? Have you seen a CB who never made a mistake or mistimed a tackle? What a poor argument there.

Drogba's kick has nothing to do with tackling, it was when Evans went for aerial battle.

And yeah he was average against Norwich which I forgot.

Well I wasn't speaking of anyone getting Cahill in the first place, but rather that I'd prefer to have Cahill on my team rather than Evans.

Anyways, it's an argument that hasn't got much to do with Chelsea right now in all honesty.

The Drogba reference was ironic, hence the '...' And when it happens once, it's a mistake or a mistimed tackle. When it happens time and time again, well, I guess it's more than that.

Im not, and when you admit you dont watch much of united this season, you're not really in a position to counter that. To say he screw ups one way or the another most of the time is just wrong

How many times it happened apart from Holden? This is his 4th season how many times has he got sent off for reckless challenge? or how many times has he injured players?

You didn't answer other points. Do you believe De Jong, Terry, Vidic as poor tacklers?

This puts any arguments to bed.

What other points? I think your question was pretty well answered - if it happens once or twice it's a mistimed tackle, when it happens several times you're a bad tackler. And you don't necessarily have to injure someone to make a bad tackle (Nor do you need to be a bad tackler to injure someone :P). I bet I could probably find some 4-5 bad tackles from Evans on youtube in under 10 minutes.

Also please point out good CBs who haven't made bad tackles.

Who according to you are good tacklers.?

Is it, really?

ORLY? So because he had 8 good games this season and I've not seen every United game so far I can't judge a guy that's made over 80 appearances. Great logic there.

Have you seen every game of his in the last few seasons? or atleast have you seen his first 2 seasons with United?

If you want to have an arguement about a dodgy defender on the Chelsea thread atleast make it be about Bosingwa :P

Once again you're wholly missing the point. You can make a bad tackle. Making several bad tackles, though, makes you a bad tackler. You wan't a good tackler? Your very own Nemanja Vidic is a very good tackler.

Have you seen every game of his in the last few seasons? or atleast have you seen his first 2 seasons with United?

I didn't watch every single game of his career, I'm pretty sure you didn't, either. But I've seen a good number of United games throughout the years and Evans had good games but he's had plenty (As in 'a lot') of bad ones. Hardly someone you can rely on.

I like the part where Evans is discussed on a Chelsea thread...

I sure as **** didn't bring him up... Anyways, sunil, feel free to VM me about Evans, not gonna spam the Chelsea thread anymore.

You are wrong, I have watched every game as I have hardly missed any game in last few years. Even if I miss I will download and watch it.

Well you can find bad tackles from Vidic too. So I dont know why you brought Holden part here.

Anyways I'm also done. I will VM you sometime later.
