--RB-----CB---CB-----LB--
----deeplyingPM---DM----
winger--#10/AMC--winger
---------Torres---------

Deep-lying playmaker - type Xabi Alonso, exactly what we need + pure destroyer (Defensive Midfielder) like Essien/Romeu.

#10 like Sneijder/Mata(if not on the wing)

wingers like Robben/Hazard

exactly what we need. but we wont play these tactics any time soon.

Sturridge may be greedy and selfish a lot of the time but at least he has a lot of self confidence and is not afraid to go for goal unlike a certain £50 million flop.

The ammount of times this season i have seen Sturridge go for the shot when he should have passed to an unmarked Torres in the box. He needs to learn a lot.

His mistakes? Chelsea players never listened or give the man a chance. The guy was a quality coach but Chelsea's players (particularly the old guard) were too up their self to play for him because they think they are still good enough to play most games, Lampard has looked well off it last few games, no wonder AVB did not play him. AVB will do well at a team that respects him as manager. Would like to see him at Tottenham, but if that Inter job gets offered he will take that.

He made mistakes too, what exacly did Lampard do wrong is what i want to know?? When he was left out he didn't moan to the media but when he was bought back in he never moaned about it or anything but just said "obviously i don't like being on the bench but when im wanted i'll do my best for the team". What is so wrong with that?? AVB tried to play the tough man from day one and phase the older players out by ignoring them and leaving them out in the cold when the players who came in for them were playing worse.

Im hearing no start for Brana tonight so its either Luiz or Bosingwa at right back.

It was what he didnt do, he went through the motions with series of sub par performances. That might be expected of a 22 year old who doesnt get on with the manager, but not from the 33 year old vice captain. Players like that dont need to be motivated by the manager, he isn't a child. He may have said those words, but he **** well didn't play with those words in mind. Play for you own pride, club and fans than. You cannot criticise AVB and then excuse Lampard.

To put the blame solely on AVB is revisionist history and pretty unfair

I never put the blame solely on AVB but when you are Lampard and yes your performances have not been great but then you are constantly getting left out for Meireles who is playing much worse you start to lose faith in yourself and your manager.

Lose faith in yourself? Meireles tactically actually fit, and for most parts was decent, rather than terrible, he was unspectacular but fit what was being asked of him. AVB didnt actually try to freeze him out, but lampard didnt fit what he was initially trying to achieve. AVB never said he wanted to move him on, merely that he needed to be open to the idea of rotation.

You won't find a single Chelsea fan who will say Meireles deserved starts or played well. Everytime he called on Lampard he produced but found himself out in the cold a week later. His tactics, starting line-ups and subs just didn't work its as simple as that. He alienated the older/legendary players at Chelsea which will always get the fans on your back. If he wanted to play them less then take them a side and say "i still want you around because you are important but i want you to back the younger players who may get chances ahead of you".

Meireles is ****. Stop defending the poor guy. Lampard over Meireles any day, any minute, any second.

Really got a feeling Benfica might pull one over on Chelsea tonight, especially with no Ivanovic in defence.

Team tonight seems as if its a 4-2-3-1.
Cech
Ferreira
Cole
Terry
Luiz
Mikel
Meireles
Kalou
Ramires
Mata
Torres.

Bench:
Turnbull
Bosingwa
Cahill
Essien
Lampard
Drogba
Sturridge

And there is the difference, people outside the Chelsea bubble could see the difference with impartial eyes. Just because they are legends does not mean they are untouchable, and many chelsea fans who do well to learn that. Your older players must have some seriously fragile egos, to get het up over that.

Fair play to Di Matteo for going with a brave line up, I thought he would start Lampard and Drogba for certain, to be fair he seems more adventurous then I thought he would be, I expected him to just suck up to the old guard and play them constantly and try and give himself the best chance to please Roman.

I think players like that deserve an ounce of respect that's the difference and it seemed as if AVB was just going to freeze them out.

Those players fit a 4-2-3-1 much better than the likes of Lampard and Drogba

I got asked yesterday either Torres or Drogba and i said Torres all day long. Drogba's first touch was pretty good against the yids but everything after that was **** poor. Torres's has been the better all round player of the two lately.

He never attempted to freeze them out, it was lampard who started throwing a strop after getting taken off. Subsequently he wasnt picked for the next game.

Do you mean making Lampard take up a rotational role? Or did something happen off the field with Terry/Drogba etc..

Making lampard take a rotational role, hence why i said they must have fragile egos.
