You know last week Marin said he had met Di Matteo and endorsed him for the job. Now Hazard says he has met Di Matteo.

Any reason why new signings are having meetings with an interim coach? I would have thought these players would only have met Roman and Emeleano. Why are they meeting Di Matteo and for what reason?

My point is that until Di Matteo is appointed full-time, he does not have anything to do with these players so why meet him

I still think RDM will be given 1 year contract, but still, the sooner someone at Chelsea confirms it the better.

Doubt He will accept 1 year contract. Probably wants at least 2 years so he isn't just slightly over year interim manager until Roman can convince Pep to come.

I think he will demand a contract with clauses stating that that if he achieves pre-determined targets then he will be awarded a new contract. Its not like we have any other option but to agree, short of approaching Capello who will probably demand the same

Hazard said he is excited to have the chance to play alongside Juan Mata and Fernando Torres. Well so are we :D

Great day! :D

BTW, to clear up the pronunciation, which I don't know about here (haven't been on much), but on Twitter there's been quite a bit of disagreement about; it's e-den (with a bit of a French accent) a-zar. So, ITV were right with their pronunciation pretty much, apart from the 'Eden' part was a bit dodgy (it's not pronounced like you would say 'Aiden' - it's similar, but not the same).

Anyway, enough of my wittering, here's the video that clears it up:

I am really impressed with this signing and it shows a real statement of intent from the club. I have seen bits of the lad but after watching him on Saturday I was very impressed. Not only with the amount of goal scoring opportunities he created for team mates (which is exactly what Chelsea need) but the way he didn't roll around on the floor when fouled and if he could he would stay on his feet. Very mature from the lad I must say, I loved the way he played a free role which defenders absolutely hate. Absolutely buzzing to see him next season, CHELSEA F.C ARE GOING NO WHERE!!!!

This is absolute comedy gold, this was wrote at the start of the season. And yes the title is correct haha.

Why Stewart Downing is a better signing than Juan Mata

I have studied a lot of comments from Liverpool fans on forums, websites, Twitter and Facebook since the end of the season, and the overwhelming conclusion is that most want Juan Mata to sign for our beloved reds. I have to ask the question: WHY?

At 23 years old and with 129 appearances and 33 goals (goals to game ratio 0.25) for Valencia under his belt, Mata has already proven to the world his ability to compete at the highest level. After back-to-back summers in which Mata picked up the 2010 World Cup and the European Under-21 Championship titles, the forward is viewed as one of the hottest prospects in world football.

Beginning his youth career with Oviedo, he moved to Real Madrid’s academy at the age of 15 and spent three years there and was promoted to the Castilla team in 2006-07, relegation followed and he was allowed to leave for Los Che. Oozing with pace and a direct style that sends a shiver down the spines of defenders, Los Che got themselves a bargain and it was not long before he was making his mark on La Liga.

His attacking role on the flank helped Valencia to the Copa del Rey trophy in 2007-08. Mata is technically gifted, his close control and vision are excellent and he has the ability to beat his man and set up chances within the blink of an eye. He is however Lightweight and lacks power, he can be shrugged off the ball too which is why i have doubts on his ability to perform in the premier league.

Stewart Downing is 26, has 244 appearances (all in the premiership) 26 goals (goals to game ratio 0.10). Although his goals ratio is 50% less to that of Mata, we must ask the question of which league Downing is playing. The premiership is the greatest league in the world, faster, stronger and more exciting than any of its rivals. Downing is a proven premiership player who has proven year in year out that he can perform at the highest level.

A versatile player who is happy on either wing, Downing’s crossing is excellent and he uses his pace and skill well down the flanks. He is Quick, incisive, accurate, a tricky winger to play against. While he may not have the Razamatz of Mata and in my opinion the over rated status because he is foreign, I for one was delighted to reading twitter on the evening of the 12/07/11 to see that LFC had agreed a fee for Downing, £20 million ? only £3 million more than Utd paid for Young, Downing had a longer contract and was voted AVFC player of the year, inflated yes but then all English players are, we would not get Mata for less than £15 million and I will gladly accept the £5million difference for the premiership experience and the fact that Downing is English.

heh, I guessed.

Very good player from what I've seen, but 35m is a gamble. Be exciting to see the lad in the Premier League.

Oh most definitely it's a gamble, but from what i saw the other day he has all the tools to succeed. He loves to stay on his feet instead of hitting the deck every 2 seconds and I love the way he just floats about anywhere.

I watched nearly all of his games last season, and he's a terrific player. With a lot of players moving from abroad people question whether they'll be able to handle the 'physicality' of the PL, and even though I usually don't believe this is a problem for most players, it definitely won't be a problem with Eden Hazard. He's well built, and players struggle to get him off the ball (even the most physical of players), so they resort to fouling him (most fouled player in Europe), and even though he tries staying on his feet, it's obviously very difficult to. But when he's fouled, what does he do? Run off crying to the ref? Roll around on the floor? Try starting a fight with the player? No. He does none of those things; he gets up and gets on with it. That's one of the many reasons I love him so much; he loves playing football, and will just get on with it regardless of what's happening (players purposely going out to foul him).

And that shows great maturity for such a young lad, the papers/press made him out to be something he is not.

Maturity on pitch? Yes. Maturity off pitch? No.

That's all i care about as he is a footballer. If i cared about what players did off the field then i would hate Cole and JT plus many more.

First time I've seen someone in a suit to sign for ages!

Got a feeling Hazard will be disliked by many fans across the Premier League but ohwell being a Chelsea fan I am used to our players being hated.
