Pro-Real Madrid newspaper reporting that Madrid set to miss out on Modric as Chelsea swoop in. And this is more reliable than Marca's normal stuff because seriously.. How many times do they print a negative story about Real Madrid

Reported fee to be in 45m Euro's. If this is true.. I could not be happier

Marca being Pro-Madrid are as unreliable as Daily Mail normally usually because most of their transfer rumours inevitably has a Madrid slant to it. But this is one of the super rare occassions I have seen them print a negative article about Madrid so I think its semi-reliable. Couple that with the Telegraph article that BlueHeart posted... I am pretty sure we have made contact at the very least

Oh i know how unreliable Marca is lol, just wondered how reliable this over source was. I will be very happy if we get him.

Same here. Would be ecstatic if we get him. Exactly the type of player we need and he would improve our game massively. I would pay 40m for him considering the number of seasons he can play for us. Around 10-12 if he does not get a massive injury

Need a new RB as well.. Hulk/Moses/Jovetic/Schurrle will be luxury signings but Modric is a necessity

Was reports yesterday we were close to signing Debuchy. I don't think we need another winger/inside forward anyway.

Quite a few options at RB but if we sign Debuchy I would be pretty happy because we signed arguably the best RB in Ligue 1 in his prime on the cheap and it means the Chelsea Youth staff are confident that Todd Kane has the potential to play at this level and do not want to block his development

Sky Italian are reporting we are in advanced talks with Inter over Maicon. Don't want him myself isn't he what 29-30 now?

Going to be 31. I do not really mind him. Price is reportedly 7m. He will have to take a wage cut.

Maicon certainly was the best attacking RB in the world. He can obviously still do a very good job providing some attacking thrust from that position.. Better than any other RB for his price. He is getting on so that means the development path of players like Kalas, Bruma, Todd Kane and Hutchinson who all can play RB will not get blocked.

Would be a decent move. A experienced, fairly cheap and still pretty good back-up RB to Ivanovic who will add another dimension to our attack

Somewhere out there Gareth Bale is probably rubbing his hands in glee...
 
Maicon transfer does make some sense. I think the main question which I have seem among Chelsea fans is.....

Does anyone feel comfortable relying on Maicon to play for an extended period of time if Ivanovic gets a long-term injury?

General consensus is No and more people are leaning towards someone like Debuchy. Problem there is that can we really convince arguably the best RB in Ligue 1 to come and sit on our bench because in my opinion Ivanovic is the best RB in the EPL along with Micah Richards.

I would probably take the gamble on Maicon as long as he takes a wage cut and hope either Bruma/Kalas/Kane/Omeruo are good enough in 2 years time to play a bigger role for the First-Team
 
Wouldnt mind Maicon tbh. He wont be our first choice RB anyway, just a back up to Brana. However, I'd still buy a younger RB. And we have to get rid of Ferreira now if we buy Maicon that is.

I know this is a matter of opinion but personally I would put Walker ahead of them both. Walker really good attacking and pretty good defending, I definitely think he is one of the best if not the best Right Back in the league. Better than Micah Richards and Ivanovic imo.
 
Lampard heavily linked with la galaxy for 13mil I think they've offered, probs less. If true it helps the Modric deal. But if this deal is true it'll be sad to see the back of frank

That 3rd Kit looks pretty decent!
As for our RB position, Maicon would be very good short term option, but I'd rather buy Debuchy/Azpillicueta who are both young and would most likely rotate with Ivanovic for the starting 11. Besides, RB is the toughest position in football to get a good player from. If we lose out oneither Debuchy or Azpi then we will have to go for Van Der Wiel, but he doesn't look too good IMO.

Problem is that we have a lot of young,talented players coming through who can play RB. Todd Kane who I hear Chelsea staff rate highly

Not to mention Ivanovic esque hybrid types like Hutchinson,Kalas, Bruma and even Kenneth Omeruo

So no wonder the club is rather reluctant to go for a younger option like Azpilicueta or VdW who would block the development of our youngsters in whom the club is putting more faith in

Maicon would be a good short-term option for now, I doubt Debuchy will want to play a rotational role in his prime years
