Obviously but it still makes no sense whatsoever to pay over the odds for a youngster. If its someone like Modric, its still understandable

The club seems to be oscillating between making top-notch bargains such as the purchase of Marin and then goes to the other extreme by paying 25m for a 20 year-old

Thing is about Oscar is that he could well be someone like Modric. He can play pretty much anywhere, is still young, and is a Brazilian international. £25 mil is the kind of money you have to chuck around for those kinds of players now.

If they get him, Chelsea are beginning to look ominously strong, on paper at very least.

I agree with you mate. I really think he is a tremendously talented player. His natural skill-set suits a regista role in a double pivot, a #10 or on either wing.

Still don't like the idea of chucking 25m at purely potential instead of ability. Would have been much happier spending the odd 15-20 million on Modric who we know can do the job to world-class standards.

And yes on paper the Chelsea team is looking very exciting. Hazard, Marin, Ramires, Mata, Torres and now Oscar. Definitely a evident change in footballing philosophy at the club. If Torres can find the net again, think we can be Top 3 next year at least

Please dont put Torres into this position, into something like a scapegoat. If we are truely aiming for a top 3 finish the whole squad needs to pull their weight. Its too simplistic to say that " If Torres scores we will finish top 3". To be honest I am expecting a better year from Lukaku if he isnt loaned out, he understandably couldnt do too much last year but he needs to impress when given the chance now.

Ditto, but from what we know Modric is not for sale at any quoted price so far, let alone 15 million. This to me smacks of Roman just going '**** it' and signing an alternative to Modric.

It's a frighteningly talented frontline that can leave out two of those five attacking midfielders because they're not as good as the starters.

Why not? That's not scapegoating him, that's putting fully deserved expectation on the main striker to score. Simple fact of the matter is, Torres has to score quite a bit for Chelsea to succeed next season, since Lukaku and Sturridge don't look likely to challenge him any time soon. He's the striker, that's his job.

If Perez is anything to go by, then the deal for Modric to Madrid will be just under £40 million in add ons. Now Oscar is expensive, but I very much understand where Roman is going by signing him.

Oscar must be given time though, he has bags of potential, but at the moment it mainly is potential. Let's hope he has the right attitude as well.

Quite excited to see if Chelsea do perform to their potential next season. Always look forward to seeing young and exciting players in a side, and if Torres hits form they could be formidable. Will be interesting if they can trouble the two Manchester sides for the title. Should be a good season.

Haven't seen myself as I haven't been awake long but I have heard from a few people Sky Sports are reporting Chelsea are set to make the " Biggest signing of the window so far" and the players name and price will be revealed today.

We are overpaying for Oscar if the deal is really happening at that price. I can only hope the people upstairs know what they are doing in regards to FFP

Shouldn't be too much of a problem, we wouldn't pay the whole fee upfront these days. Propbaby 5 million a season for 5 years or something like that.

If Oscar plays in a 4-2-3-1 we all know he can get forward and do damage too. Just imagine a front line of Torres, Mata, Hazard, Ramires and Oscar coming towards you. And if that doesn't work then we have Marin, Sturridge and Lukaku for a plan B. Things starting to click into place now.

Suggestions that is could very well be Edinson Cavani.

To play the Devil's Advocate, imagine how isolated the single holding midfielder will be if the opposition counter, especially if it's someone as immobile as John Obi Mikel.

There is that to iron out obviously. One thing if Ramires is playing is that he will and can get back very quickly and can do that all day long so maybe his job will be to hold back at times.

I think Ramires proved throughout the season that he is more than happy to track back and do his defensive duties. He certainly likes to get forward but if he's asked to be restrained I have no doubt that he would lend excellent support to Mikel.

Was chatting on a facebook group and i have come to this conclusion. It seems as if Lukaku may go on loan this season which means we will need another striker and as we know we are also after another winger too. Now instead of signing two players (one for each position) then that is where the signing of Hulk will make sense. I am not behind the Hulk transfer and have never been but when i put it like that it does make sense as he can play upfront or on either wing (mostly right wing).
