Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Ashley Cole; Mikel, Lampard; Hazard, Mata, BERTRAND; Torres

Oscar on the bench!

Hazard's got Caldwell tied up in knots. He's resorted to desperately going right through him rather than actually trying to tackle.

Chelsea had a great start but have now sat back on it, be very interesting should Wigan manage I find one,

Hazard is looking very good, and Torres not so good

Glad we got the 3 points, after the 2 goals we were not that impressive. But glad to see Hazard and Oscar in action.

We started the game lively but once we went 2 goals up we played pretty poor. Hazard played well I was impressed today. Torres was awful

Complete lack of movement all over the pitch. Attacks fizzled because Wigan stifled the space and we didn't move to pull them around or open things up. Brief glimpses of that when Oscar came on though. Mikel needs to ****** drop back during goalkicks and there should always be a defender ready to collect. Cech was forced to hoof way too many balls forward today. Torres was average. Hazard looked sharp but his passing was very loose.

All in all, a win's a win but it wasn't overly encouraging. It was hot and we were 2-0 up so quickly so I don't think the players were really giving their all. This is our transition year though (yes, it's really happening) so I think that things will get a lot better.

Wigan were unlucky not to get a point, Chelsea were awful after the 2 goals went in.

I agree with everything here, but regarding Mikel, Cech, and the defenders, I especially agree, but I think it's more down to Robbie, tbh. Mikel has a tendency to drop deep for the ball, so I'd think it's down to RDM, which I find very frustrating. I hate this formation. What's even more annoying is Cech hoofing it up to our smallest players, and then we lose possession straight away.

We don't have a great player in the air to kick it to, so the CBs should split to the edge of the box and Mikel should drop in, then build-up the play from there. That would be a lot easier to do if we play a formation with 3 mids though.

Today, we played better mainly because Hazard was more central, and I like how he and Mata quite frequently switched, but still Hazard being the one mainly there. Just like I said it should (well, should if we play a #10), and will be.

They weren't unlucky; they created pretty much nothing. Their build-up play was decent, but their defending, and finishing was very poor. It's their own fault, not bad luck. We, however, were lucky.

Free header by Gomez and Kone, bi cycle kick by Gomes and before that Kone's chance nearpost, Di Santo's one on one miss.

That's more than enough chances to score at least one goal.

o.O

eh

By that logic we were unlucky not to beat them 4 or 5 -0 considering that Torres looked indecisive and fluffed potential chances 2/3 times. There was nothing unlucky about the bicycle kick or the free header. The players had the chance to take them and they didn't.

Decent game from us. Important thing was to get the win. The movement and fluidity will eventually come, don't forget that our entire squad only came together 2 days ago and the preseason was not the best with the Euro's and Olympics.

Hazard looked good today. Pretty much raped the Wigan defence in the first ten minutes. Torres was poor. Nothing much to say on everyone else.

Also Oscar gave a good account of himself when he came on. The fixture list is pretty kind to us initially so hopefully by the time the big guns come to play, we will be ready. Also don't forget that we were missing Marin who will only improve us when he comes back

Also very glad to see RDM putting faith in the youngsters and giving them starts like Bertrand. Something AVB, who was supposed to do this, did not do.

Chris said they didn't create chances so I just posted clear cut chances created by Wigan.

Actually scratch that... Torres had a few good moments and should have got himself a goal. May have even won a penalty if he had chosen to go to ground but instead decided to go for the shot... good on him

Also that header which put Oscar through. Not a great performance by him but it was fine
